In an interview with MMA Junkie, Beneil Dariush (8-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) said that he would fight Ramsey Nijem over lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, especially after Nijem gave him his first professional MMA loss in April at UFC Fight Night 39. He just recently defeated Tony Martin (8-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) by submission on the FOX Sports 2 preliminary card of UFC Fight Night 49 at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Nijem will fight Carlos Diego Ferreira on Saturday at UFC 177.
On not liking it when he loses: "I don't have a problem with the guy, it's just I don't like losing. If I had a choice between the title and that guy, I'd pick that guy right now. You don't understand … it's not easy to lose."
On how he felt after the loss: "I felt like garbage after the fight. No excuses, Ramsey was the better man that night, but it's hard to accept a loss. So the first thing I did was get back into the gym to get better, and hopefully, get back in the win column. Luckily, it happened."
On fighting a man named Alec in jiu-jitsu before his MMA career: "I fought that guy seven times. You want to know how many times he beat me? Six. He beat me six friggin' times … in a row. You know how many people would have given up after maybe their third loss or fourth loss? Every time I lost to that guy, I was just furious. I would go nuts. The first thing I would do is go back to the gym and figure out how I lost. And every time I would fight him again, he would beat me in a different way, and it just drove me nuts."
