Brandon Vera Loses CSAC Motion Against Former Management

- Brandon Vera lost his motion with the California State Athletic Commission against his former manager Mark Dion. Vera alleged that Dion engaged in illegal conduct against the rules of the commission, which would have given Vera the right to terminate their contract. Vera claims that Dion turned down a $100,000 signing bonus without telling Vera. The CSAC ruled that Vera did not prove Dion acted inappropriately, and Vera will now have to pay Dion 33% of his purse from the Tim Sylvia fights, as well as another $100,000 from future purses.
- Dion claims that UFC only offered the bonus is Vera won a championship. One of the main reasons that Vera didn't fight for a year was that he was trying to get out of his contract with Dion. Vera, without Dion, had gotten the $100,000 signing bonus without the title stipulation, due to him beating Assuerio Silva and Frank Mir.
- After Vera defeated Mir, he had one fight left on his contract. Dana White then offered him a three-fight deal at $90,000 to show and $90,000 to win, $100,000 and $100,000 and finally $115,000 and $150,000. If Vera won a title in those three fights, he would then be promised three more fights at $150,000 to show and $150,000 to win, $170,000 and $170,000 and $185,000 and $185,000. White's second offer was a four-year all-inclusive contract for $7-million, with a $100,000 bonus if he won a title. Vera turned down both offers. Dion Countered with higher per fight payouts, plus a $1.5-million signing bonus or a deal where Vera would be paid $10.5 million over three-years for 10-fights, with a guaranteed $1-million if he went undefeated during a one-year span and the contract could only be voided if Vera lost three fights in a row. UFC turned that down.
- Dion also claims that he has paid Vera $6,000 a month to be a trainer at City Boxing in San Diego, as well as spend more than $100,000 in marketing Vera and on bringing in Kick Boxing Legend Rob Kaman to train Vera.
