UFC 83: Serra vs St-Pierre II!

___________________________________________________________________________________________

Lightweight fight (155): Mark Bocek (5-1) vs. Mac Danzig (18-4-1)

Prediction from the round table:
Danzig, as big of a douchebag as he is, actually (gasp) BACKS UP WHAT HE SAYS. He is too experienced and too good for Bocek. He'll beat Bocek in whichever fashion he chooses, but I'll say:
Predicted winner: Danzig, SUB, Rd. 1

Round One: We are live! Buffer, you suck. Feeling out process for the first miute and a half. Danzig more effective. Bocek shoots, working a single against the fence. He picks up the second leg and finishes the takedown against the fence. In Danzig's guard. Bocek lands a good right to the body. Danzig with a triangle to an omoplata! Bocek pulls out. Danzig is making faces to the crowd and throwing up his hands as Bocek maintains position. Bocek works to Danzig's back. Danzig gets back to guard. He works to his feet. Danzig reverses to Bocek's guard. He works the ground and pund for a few seconds as the round ends. Seems like 10-9 for Bocek.

Round Two:

Danzig with a left hook. Knee drops Bocek! Danzig to side control, landing elbows to the temple. Bocek recovers and works to a single-leg attempt. Danzig works for the mount. Bocek gives up his back! Hooks are in. Bocek turns back over as Danzig works the ground and pound. Danzig doesn't like where this is going and stands back up, letting Bocek to his feet! Bocek shoots. Danzig sprawls and lands some shots. The round ends with Danzig posturing up and landing shots to a prone Bocek. 10-8 for Danzig.

Round Three:
Bocek's face is hamburger. Huge mouse over left eye. Double leg attempt by Bocek, finishes into Danzig's guard. He pull sDanzig away from the fence. Danzig scrambles back to his feet. Thai clinch. Big knee by Danzig! Bocek is split open over the left eye. Left hook! The fight is stopped to look at Bocek's cut. Fight continues! Danzig with a right. Awesome jab is landing whenever he wants. Danzig sweeps the leg and gets the mount! Bocek gives up his back. Rear naked choke is in and Bocek taps!

Winner: Mac Danzig, SUB, Round Three
___________________________________________________________________________________________
Middleweight fight (185): Charles "Chainsaw" McCarthy (7-2) vs. Michael "The Count" Bisping (15-1)

Prediction from the round table:
Can you say overrated? Bisping is. His standup is archaic, and that's his strength. McCarthy, though he thinks a bit too highly of himself on the ground, can and will finish Bisping there.
Predicted winner: McCarthy, SUB, Rd. 3.

Round One:
Bisping looks in great shape. McCarthy looks relaxed. Bisping light on his feet, jabbing and moving. McCarthy taunts Bisping by sticking out his tongue. Classy. Blocks a flying knee by Bisping. Bisping teeing off, but most blows being blocked. McCarthy bides his time and hits a beautiful double-leg. Works for the armbar. Looks close! Bisping pulls put! Bisping landing a flurry! McCarthy to his feet. Bisping just throwing everything at McCarthy here! Elbows, punches, kicks! McCarthy taking most on the forearms. McCarthy falls! He goes fetal! Fight in danger of being stopped! Round ends as McCarthy is still on the ground. He cannot continue! It appears as if Bisping broke McCarthy's arm. My friend Dan notes that it is ironic that McCarthy said he would break Bisping's arm.

Winner: Bisping, TKO, Rd. One (McCarthy could not continue)
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Middleweight fight (185): Nate "Rock" Quarry (14-2) vs. Kalib Starnes (10-3-1)

Prediction from the round table:
As much as it's difficult to call any MMA fighter a pussy, can I just tell you how BIG of a pussy Starnes is? Quarry is coming off of an emotional victory, and I hope there's no letdown here.
Predicted winner: Quarry, TKO, Rd. 3

Round One:

Starnes comes out to Bittersweet Symphony? PUSSY. He looks flabby. Quarry looks in great shape as usual. Quarry with a leg kick. He is pushing the pace and chasing Starnes around the cage. Literally, Starnes is running away and backpedaling for nearly the entire round! The crowd starts to boo. Quarry landing some heavy body shots when he catches up. The round ends as Quarry continues to push and Starnes continues to run away.

Round Two: Horribly similar to the first round. Starnes WILL NOT FIGHT! Quarry landing leg kicks here and there. Starnes catches one and finally does something! Quarry on off of his feet but he gets right back up. Crowd booing more vociferously. Boring, boring fight. Quarry is doing what he can, but Starnes is giving him nothing to work with.

Round Three: This is officially the worst fight EVER. Starnes runs away for the entire round. Quarry mimicks running and Starnes gives him the finger! That is the most that Starnes has done in this fight. The round ends as Quarry, zombie-style (out of frustration) walks slowly toward while throwing slow-motion hammerfists at Starnes, WHO IS STILL RUNNING AWAY. What a total, complete, bitch.

Winner: Quarry, DEC (including a 30-24 on one card).
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Middleweight fight (185): Travis "The Serial Killer" Lutter (12-4) vs. Rich "Ace" Franklin (24-3)

Prediction from the round table:
Franklin's only nemesis in the division is Silva. He'll beat Lutter's ass. ‘Nuff said.
Predicted winner: Franklin, TKO, Rd. 2

Round One: Feeling each other out. Accidental headbutt! Lutter seems hurt a little. He gets a single leg and takes down Franklin! Works to the back, then to side control. Gets mount for a second! Franklin works back to guard. Remount! Lutter gets an armbar and it looks tight! Franklin gets out somehow and gets back to his feet! He decides to let Lutter get up. Lutter with a double-leg, Franklin sprawls. Franklin landing shots, nothing too serious. Round ends against the cage as Franklin defends the takedown.

Round Two:

Lutter looks beaten up. Franklin with a head kick! Lutter is stunned! Frankliin moves in and Lutter goes for a heel hook! Franklin having trouble gettin gout! He pulls out and lets Lutter stand up. Thai clinch and Franklin is teeing off. Lutter is exhausted and beaten up, clearly out of shape. Thai clinch again and the crowd is yeliing for a KNEE. Franklin glances at the clock. He tees off again as Lutter can't even keep his arms up! Lutter is down and Mazzagati stops the fight! Post fight, Franklin notes that Lutter is "known for his lack of conditioning." Burn!

Winner: Franklin, TKO, Round Two

Next up is the main event!

Main Event (170): Undisputed UFC Welterweight Championship: Georges "Rush" St. Pierre (15-2 and interim champion) vs. Matt "The Terror" Serra (16-4 and defending champion)

Prediction from the round table:
Herein lies the catch: emotionally, this is a difficult fight to predict for me. Intellectually, it definitely is not. Serra, like me, is a Long Island boy, and also hates Matt Hughes (who ran over my puppy when I was a child). Frenchie and His Red Wine, however, is arguably the second greatest PFP fighter in the world right now. St. Pierre will use his superior striking to secure the SUB victory in a hot minute. I like them both a lot, but I'm afraid this is the end of the dream:
Predicted winner: St. Pierre, SUB, Rd. 1.

Deep Thoughts with Matt Serra:
To the crowd at the weigh-ins: "Boo now, motherfuckers!"
For the main event: "I'm expecting a lot of boos."
On the first fight: "It was definitely an upset, but it was no fluke."
On this fight (1): "The one definitely reminds me of Rocky IV."
On this fight (2): "The only thing better than shocking the world once is shocking it twice."
On being the underdog: "I love it when the people doubt me."

Deep Thoughts with GSP:
On Matt Serra calling him Frenchy and telling him to go back to his red wine and hockey games: "My job will be to destroy Matt Serra. This guy really crossed the line."
On the first fight: "There is no such thing as a lucky punch."
On this fight: "Me, I'm like Rocky II."
On the difference between this fight and the first: "I'm the type of guy that I never make the same mistake twice."

Round One:

GSP with a fast takedown! No stand-up this time. He's in half guard. Transitions to the back. They both stand. GSP lands a knee as they separate. Superman punch lands! GSP with another takedown, back to side control. Some ground and pound. Round comes to a close as GSP lands a late knee! GSP dominates with wrestling and controls the entire round.

Round Two: Serra has a huge mouse over his left eye. He looks defeated. GSP with a snigle leg to half guard. Serra is pinned against the fence. GSP landing knees, heavy! Serra works back to the feet. GSP landing jabs as Serra can't keep his hands up anymore! Double leg takedown! GSP landing elbows! Serra spins to guard. GSP works to side control and begins landing HUGE knees to Serra's side! I wouldn't be surprised if he breaks a rib here. Serra spins back to guard. GSP works back to side control as Serra goes to his knees. GSP landing more HUGE knees to Serra's side! Unanswered shots landing and Yves Lavigne stops the fight! NEW CHAMPION!

Winner: and new Welterweight Champion: GSP, TKO, Round Two

Lightning doesn't strike the same place twice

Posted By: Bobby (Guest)  on April 19, 2008 at 11:23 PM

that Quarry fight was horrible. Starnes litterally did nothing.

Posted By: Levon (Guest)  on April 19, 2008 at 11:43 PM

ahhh, lightning can strike twice in the same spot. Ask Liddell about Rampage.

Posted By: worm5669 (Guest)  on April 19, 2008 at 11:46 PM

Hell, I knew that Rampage was going to win. During the staredown, it looked like Liddell was going to soil himself

yes yes yes!!!
Can you say new welterweight champ????
GEORGES ST. PIERRE!!!!

Posted By: Bobby (Guest)  on April 20, 2008 at 12:42 AM

Lutter, as expected go that ass whooped. That will teach him to mouth off about beating Silva before stepping into the Octagon against a man haunted by two losses to Silva.

Despite calling for GSP's win, I still hoped Serra could pull it out. Now who will crowds boo because they don't like the trash talk and not because the guy sucks?
