Travis Lutter Has Some Harsh Words For MMA Fans

During a recent interview with FightTicker.com, the UFC's Travis Lutter had some interesting comments regarding his fight with Rich Franklin, his current training, and why MMA fans "suck":
On his gameplan against Rich Franklin at UFC 83::
"Take him down, beat him up. Like I said, I got caught – I haven't watched the fight yet but some of my buddies told me I got caught with a pretty good punch about 18 seconds in."
On his current contract with the UFC:
"I have four fights [left]."
On who he thinks is the top middleweight fighter in the world:
"Matt Lindland."
On who would win in a fight, Anderson Silva or Matt Lindland:
"I think if Lindland fought him I think it's without a doubt that he would beat him. I think there's a good chance that a prepared GSP could beat Anderson also."
On when he will start training for his next fight and his thoughts on MMA fans:
"I don't know if I'm going to train tomorrow but for sure by next Monday I'll be back doing everything I usually do.
The other crazy thing you didn't bring up is – and you can post this or not post this – fans of this sport just suck.
In my interview on the Countdown show, I talked about people sending the guy hate mail and stuff like that and I got hate mail from that. You lose, you get hate mail. You say, "I think I can beat this guy" [and] you get hate mail.
It's crazy. It's literally – I don't understand the people that are watching this. It's a total lack of respect for the fighters. Some of them I wrote back, "What have you done? What have you accomplished with your pathetic life?" It's not a nice thing to say but it just sucks having these guys write to you and say the things that they say. It's crazy. It really is.
I'm not like Serra where you're just – Serra could give a fuck. People suck. I think it's amazing. I definitely don't fight for those people. I fight for me. Use that in your article or not, whatever. But, fans suck."
On why some fans "suck":
"I think most of them are dumb-ass kids. I'm not saying MMA fans. I'm saying the people that are writing me this shit. I think the average MMA fan rules. They're following my sport. I like them a lot.
But, the guy who is taking the time out of his day that lives in Kentucky to email me to tell me what a piece of shit I am. You really have to question, what is his motivation? How sad of an individual is that? I don't know what to say to that. It's like, "I saw you on TV so you suck. As a fighter you suck. You've got no cardio, blah blah blah." What motivates these guys to send hate mail? I don't understand it.
Maybe I shouldn't even touch on this subject. It's one of those things. I'm sure Serra's getting hate mail too. Whoever is getting hate mail. Kalib Starnes – he got fired from the UFC for his performance. And that was a bad performance. He didn't fight.
Me, I went in there, I tried to kill the guy and I ended up getting beat and I'm getting an amazing amount of hate mail. I don't understand it from a fighter's perspective."
I'm no Lutter fan but you have to say that he was a second away from getting
Franklin to tap before Rich spun out of that armbar (if there was an bonus for
feat of the night in the payoffs, that would have won).
That being said, not making weight and gassing out so quickly hurts Lutter's
future chances. Still, I wouldnt put him on the same level as Starnes or even
Charles McCarthy, who fumbled his way through his fight with Bisping despite
all the trashtalk before and during the match.

I agree with Lutter on this one. People love being living room coaches when they
dont know Jack-shit. Its not easy going into a cage with a guy like Rich
Franklin who miraculously (and brilliantly) rolled out of an arm-bar that was
cinched in deep.
I also don't think Lutter was as gassed as he was kicked in the fucking head -
the dude was out on his feet, not gassing

1 second, 5 min, no difference, fact is Rich got out of it. Just cus you can get
a guy it a hold don't mean squat unless you finish him in the hold. And im not
from Kentucky, hell im not from the US, but Lutter was gassed. I can't spell to
save my life so you wont see me in any spelling b's. So if you're gassed after
one round, then train harder or find something else to do.

This guy makes me sad. He has so much talent, but doesnt seem to bother putting
in the effort in the gym. He came in against Silva OVERWEIGHT. The fight of his
life and he cant even make weight. And then is looking pretty good before he
gases.
I wish this guy would do some cardio and I bet he could be wearing gold within
a year. The talent is there, just not the effort.

Lutter wasn't a second away from tapping Rich. Rich clearly baited Lutter and
planned that.
Second, if Lutter doesn't like critical fans maybe he should just not suck. We
pay money to see these fights. Fans pay his bills.
If I went to work as unprepared as Lutter did I'd be fired.
Finally, Lutter does not have a ton of talent. He's pretty good at BJJ, but
there are journeyman fighters out there who are better mixed martial artists.

MMA fans, the ones who think they "know" fighters do suck. This
applies to all sports though - Wrestling fans, NFL and so forth

not saying one way or another about his skill as a fighter, but this statement
is dead on...you've got a bunch of wwe fans that saw the reality show now
writing columns about this sport without any understanding and it's creating a
fan base of friggin' morons with stupid oppinions...sure lutter probably should
have shut up and behaved himself, perhaps he would have gotten another fight out
of the contract.

So true Romano, but lutter does suck. Wanna know why frankling got out of that
armbar... because it was not applied probaly leg was folded on the wrong side
really shouldnt of been folded at all not folded harder to roll. What franklin
do rolled. Instead of lutter reading hate mail and thinking he is so much
better than everyone else maybe he should hit the mat some more and get in
shape. Fans are fans and if lutter loses they will be pist they want to see him
win. Its a good thing you idiot. Not that your reading, can you read? :)

Sorry, but those fans do suck. Imagine you open up an e-mail and it says
"Hey, fuck you! I saw you in your fight with so and so and I don't think
you tried hard enough!" How do you respond to that with anything other
than "Fuck you, you're irrelevant."?
