Michael Bisping to face Jason Day at UFC 85
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.09.2008

UFC has announced that due to Chris Leben being pulled from UFC 85, Michael Bisping will now face Jason Day on the June 7th show. Jason "Dooms" Day currently has a 17-5 MMA record, and is coming off of a victory at UFC 83 over Alan Belcher.

This is such bad news... I was hoping for a better fight. This is even worse
than replacing Liddell is Irvin.

I really hope they make nothing on PPV's. This is a card the UFC should be
ashamed of.

Matt, why should the UFC be ashamed? What could they have done to prevent this?
Shogun and Liddell, the first main event, BOTH got injured, and I think they
did pretty well by first replacing Shogun with Rashad, and then Liddeel with
Matt Hughes/Michael Bisping. Is it their fault Leben has to go to jail? Who's
fault is that Liddell's hammy is in pieces? Please enlighten me on how you
would've fixed this card.

Honestly, this can only be win-win for all of these fighters. Look at what
happens in pro-wrestling when a headliner gets hurt and mid-carders are put
into main-event positions. The company gets to see whether or not the people
they're paying are worth their salt. Some are able to handle the increased
pressure of knowing they're being counted on to deliver for the fans, others
(like Starnes) simply blow it and look foolish.

Everyone here knows Leben is an entertaining fighter, Liddell is a great
fighter, Quarry can easily step up and main event... Now that some others are
getting the shot to be seen versus being an untelevised undercard match, Dana
& Co. will easily be able to see if they're worth it.

Unfortunately this type of situation is happening on a PPV instead of a Fight
Night, but taking into consideration the card is happening in the UK, there's
decent odds that due to the drastic change in card, UFC could opt to show this
on Spike via tape delay, upon which Spike will cream themselves because of the
ratings a free PPV brings.

Wow, I would have prefererred Nate Quarry, at least he managed to make something
of a name for himself at 83.
