Heath Herring vs. Brock Lesnar Confirmed For UFC 87
Posted by Dustin James on 05.24.2008

MMA Weekly has confirmed that Heath Herring will replace the injured Mark Coleman and face off against Brock Lesnar at UFC 87 on August 9th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Coleman was forced to pull out of the fight due to a torn MCL that will keep him out of action for up to six weeks. Herring last fought at UFC 82 where he scored a decision victory over Cheick Kongo. Lesnar last fought at UFC 81 where he lost via kneebar submission to Frank Mir.

wow, heath herring? this means an 0-2 start for brock. i guess its good that they're not giving him tomato cans, yet i don't think it will do well for his confidence...

Win/loss ratios mean nothing if Lesnar can continue to improve and grow. On paper, Couture is 16-8 in his career, but his losses have come from some big names, and it's no real indication of how good he really is now.

this is bad for brock. Noone should be fighting herring in their third fight, especially after coming off a loss no matter how good he looked in that loss. 0-2 for Lesnar's UFC career for sure

No way is Brock winning that fight. Not a good matchup at all for him.

Well if Herrin beats Lesnar, than he should get his well deserved title shot.... I mean if Mir can pull some dumb shit like that, then why can't Heath.

Gentlemen - i encourage you to evaluate the brock lesnar/frank mir fight. frank mir weighs in at 255 pounds and is by no means a weak man. frank mir (my favorite heavy in the sport) was utterly mauled. His jiu-jitsu is all that saved him combined with Brock's inadequate submission recognition

the role of grizzly bear (played by brock) was extremely well executed

i have seen a number of individuals posting comments that completely disrespect the hulk that is brock lesnar. as i like to put it, my favorite heavy "got away" from lesnar. his fight against herring, i am confident, will solidify brock as a serious threat for a heavyweight title (yes i said a title in the ufc) and make many a fool out of the strong opinion holding fans who think they know something about fighting and athleticism

give this man some time to understand the game a bit more and, in my estimate, he will shock you

if, understandably so, you doubt my prediction, picture yourself having played ping pong for 5 months and you were already pitted against the former world champion of ping pong, how do you think you would do? do you think you would come out and pound the crap out of him and get caught with a couple of well executed shots that resulted in your loss? i understand it is somewhat of an apples and oranges comparison that does not take into account the differences of the sports to a large extent, but hopefully you can understand a bit more clearly that, whether you believe it or not, the guy is crazy legit. everyone who fights heavyweight right now does not want to fight this guy

herring will get handled and it is possible that brock once again get's caught with a submission. the subsequent matches though, brock rolls whoever he fights

anyone like to make a wager?

I don't want to see either guy lose right now. If youve watched Heath's fights lately he hasnt had any takedown defense. Hes going down quick. I really like Heath but I only see him winning with a Kimura maybe (If Lesner doesnt monster out of it). My prediction Lesner via Doctor Stoppage.

Brock Lesnar is an awesome wrestler. An all american. He had enough skill to come insanely close to knocking Mir out. Heath is a good big man, but when compared to Brocks size and power, he is sorely lacking. With all That said, Lesnar has alot to work on. His strikes were not to accurate against Mir, and throwing shots like that with heath might cost him the fight on the feet before he even takes heath down

Yall are crazy if you think Herring can win. If he does it will be luck that gets him through it. Herring got manhandled by Fedor in Pride, and Fedors ground and pound isnt nearly as effective as Brocks IMO.

Brock will win this fight. TKO. Brock is bigger, faster(most people dont realize how quick he is), way stronger, and way more aggressive. He lacks experience, and he apparently has trouble with BJJ, and nobody knows what his chin can take, but all that aside, Lesnar will get the take down and beat the living hell out of Herring. I like Herring, but he has a beating coming to him.

Fedors
"fedors ground and pound isnt nearly as effective as Brocks IMO." are you kidding me fedor is the number one fighter in the world and anyways heath has a lot more experience (facing practically every top heavywieght in pride) and i doubt lesnar will beat that experience
