Dana White Updates Us On Health Of Rampage Jackson
Posted by Dustin James on 07.19.2008

Dana White recently sat down with Yahoo! Sports and gave the fans an update on the health of former UFC light heavyweight champion, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, who had been arrested earlier this week and has been suffering from mental health issues:

On when Rampage is expected back:

"I think it's going to be a while before we get him back. I'm talking as a friend. It's a sensitive issue. Rampage, the UFC fighter, who cares about that. We're concerned about Rampage, the human being. What matters is his personal life."

On what might have caused Jackson's "rampage" leading to his arrest:

"He was up for four days and he was doing some crazy fasting thing. He was up for four days, drinking water and energy drinks, that was it. It's not good. Rampage doesn't do drugs. Rampage really doesn't even drink. This whole thing made no sense to me. (Then) when I got there it made a lot of sense."

On Rampage's newfound "fame" being the cause of his outburst:

"As this thing continues to grow and people will get more famous. Fame isn't easy to deal with. Harder for all the fighter are all the cling-ons. I can't police every fighter. As soon as something goes wrong I'm there and I'll help them."

You can listen to the interview here.

I guess losing the championship hit him pretty hard.

Up four days consuming water and energy drinks? WTF was he thinking.

Rampage dosent drink? After the fight with Foresst he said he was still getting drunk in a club with his cousin.

I hope the man gets well. I can't imagine what he was thinking to do something like that - stay up four nights just before a title defense. But right now, I hope he beats whatever it is that he has.

Almost sounds like Dana doesn't expect Rampage to be back anytime soon...

Energy drinks?? Whatever...it was an upper drug I am sure..those fighters take lots of these illegal "up all night and day drugs". Give me a break...look at their dilated pupils..

I agree, Dana...it IS extremely difficult to deal with all of the Klingons.

"Energy drinks?? Whatever...it was an upper drug I am sure."

actually..
first line of wiki's entry on caffeine:

"Caffeine is a bitter white crystalline xanthine alkaloid that acts as a psychoactive stimulant drug and a mild diuretic (speeds up urine production)[2] in humans and other animals."

which is in many coffees, pop's and..
Energy drinks as we all know.

Caffeine -is- an "upper drug"

if he'd been mixing a high water intake
with no sleep and a boat load of energy drinks.. you could have convinced him he was white in all likely hood.
4 days of little to no sleep alone can do that.. mix in a lack of diet plus high dose caffeine..

makes sense to me.

Much Respect. I hope to see Rampage back in the cage soon.

I think he was chasin the white rabbit....livin the MMA dream...he realized that Dana and UFC were takin him and every other fighter for everything they have and givin nothin back, so he went for the "blow"...smooth move bro. Hey dana, UFC is awesome, but the fighters make the brand, the brand doesn't make the fighter...

I think Rampage is Bi-polar...sounds like a classic case of a manic moment taking over...i wish him well.

"Give me a break...look at their dilated pupils.."

Um, that may be due to getting punched in the head so much. I'd look goofy too.

Hope Rampage gets well and gets back in the Octagon when he's good and ready and doesn't rush things...MMA doesn't need the kind of negative attention that wrestling gets in the media...I don't think Dana is saavy enough to handle a scandal.

energy drink rampage. look at all you haters. "upper drug im sure." thanks for your opinions on that. but get over yourselves, how long did you have to think about that to "be sure" it doesnt matter if it was an uppper, downer or otherwise, all that matters is that rampage has people around him who care. he'll be back, trust me, someone took what he cared about most in life, his championship title. cant say weather or not it was F.Griffin who took it from him, or Dana White(called for the fixxx) but either way, he will soon be on a RAMPAGE to reclaim what hes worked so hard for. FIGHT ON RAMPAGE !

its not the fame getting to his head it was the fact that he worked his ass off for the griffin fight and to lose it like that has caused him a lot of stress we all hope to see him again soon

Everyone just get off Quinton's back. He's human and deserves a break. Send him your concern and caring thoughts, rather than your judgments. I truly wish you all the best in your recovery Quinton. You are still a Champion to me and many, many more.

Sincerely,
Michelle
