Dana White Believes Affliction Will Be Out Of Business Soon
Posted by Dustin James on 07.21.2008

During the post-fight press conference for UFC Fight Night 14, UFC President Dana White had the following to say about Affliction's PPV debut that same evening:

"I figure after tonight those guys will be out of business, and all those (fighters) will be over here."

"They spent a lot of money tonight. And I know more about this business than they do. When you spend a lot of money and you don't get that money back, you usually go out of business. Talk to the IFL, they know all about it."

I hope Affliction is able to do at least one more show with either Fedor/Arlovski or Fedor/Barnett. It will be interesting to hear the total fighter payouts compared to the total attendance/PPV Buys.

Damn Dana!! Sounds like he's pulling out the wallet.....

Wishful thinking? Or accurate prediction I guess we'll have to wait and see.

"I figure after tonight those guys will be out of business, and all those (fighters) will be over here."

That's funny considering that most of those fighters were over there (at the UFC) at some point and left.

To compare Affliction to the IFL is idiotic at best. There is a HUGE discrepancy in the caliber of fighters (hell, Affliction had better HW's then the UFC currently has)... and Affliction has the Donald.

It's obvious that Dana is just blowing smoke and saying anything to make Affliction seem like it's not a threat, but his actions show a completely different story. I don't recall Dana and company hurrying to get their top fighter on a FREE Fight Night to counter YAMMA. Heck, EliteXC had a prime-time network show and all the UFC did was air a Liddell special.

I could care less if Affliction stays or goes.

They really need to just have one MMA company so if the UFC just stays big and has all the best fighters in the world i'd be happy.

Except the IFL didn't have Donald Trump as a financial backer.

He probably got some info on estimated ppv buys and knows that there losing ALOT of money, but hey thats alot of heavyweights i think we would all love to see in the ufc.

Posted By: Evan (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 03:01 PM

Hmm... I would like to know where Dana gets his "Info"... and I wish he would share!

Affliction will definitely be around for a little while. At the very least, until Fedor/Couture

so dana is waiting for a company backed by a billionaire to collapse before he starts picking up top heavyweights? I am not a Dana hater but i gotta say that he's assuming a bit too much there

Posted By: guest guest (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 03:15 PM

dana is such a comic book villain....he's hoping that affliction can go out of business so that he can continue to pay fighters practically zilch and completely control their careers in the process...don't get me wrong, dana cracks me up...but he's such an assbag

Affliction should try to land a tv deal. A real tv deal, not some VS channel or FSN crap. Their whole production (while a ripoff of PRIDE) just made the whole event feel like a MAJOR happening. UFC still seems "small" when you look at their shows.

Put Fedor against Arlovski on free tv and use the rest of the card to show off the rest of your talent. Once you get all the UFC fans to go check out the Pitbull against the "best" fighter ever I am sure that a lot will then be willing to pay for a later show.

And if they got Couture out of his contract they could have that be the show they make their money on.

All Im gonna say is that UFC Fight Night blew Affliction out of the water. Unless you like slow boring matches. At least AA and Fedor delivered.

It's funny that both of UFC's World Heavyweight Champions were at AND active members of the Affliction PPV.

"To compare Affliction to the IFL is idiotic at best. There is a HUGE discrepancy in the caliber of fighters"

Hows that work? One of Afflictions top fights on the card was featuring a former IFL heavyweight?

...who got his ass handed to him for 3 rounds before being KTFO. Affliction took the best the IFL had to show, put him against one of the best in the world and it quickly showed that the IFL is an inferior brand.

Rothwell earned his spot on the PPV, but was easily the weakest link in the 3 HW main event matches... while being the top guy in the IFL.

Yeah because the hyped up Vera and Edgar matches were so great...

Each Affliction shirt sells for 10,000 bucks (lolz) so I think they can quickly gain back their expenses :-)

What is Dana smoking if he thinks all those guys will be back working for him. If Dana paid guys what they were worth in the first place then Affliction wouldn;t have the roster they have. I hope Affliction keeps stealing talent and makes a go of it.

maybe from a financial standpoint it's easy to not be impressed with Affliction: Banned

but did Dana actually watch any of the fights

I watched both events back to back and...it seemed that there really wasn't a boring fight on the Affliction card whereas there were more than a few boring fights on the UFC card.

also is it just me or is Brandon Vera becoming the new Tim Sylvia of the UFC now that Sylvia has departed? I personally didn't know that "boringfighteritis" was a contagious disease

Dana White is well known for being a huge dick to anyone not signed to the UFC.....

FACT IS He FEARS Affliction and he was crying out LOUDLY watching Fedor assraping his former poster boy Tim Sylvia .

Oh and what about the current and REAL UFC HEAVY CHAMP Randy Couture coming out at the end of the affliction's ppv and SHAKING HANDS WITH FEDOR ?

Dana probably choked himself out watching that

Donald Trump >>>>> Dana White

watch out Dana,Trump is in the game.Next stop Atlantic City N.J. for a good East Coast Show ,I know the UFC wants the Garden but its Trumps home town.2009 Fedor vs Couture @ M.S.G....And Tito will be on the card..All they need is Joe Rogan and Bas on the mike......Break out the check book Dana its going to be crazy year.........

WHAT AN ARROGANT PRICK.

Posted By: Guest#6430 (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 02:09 PM

Dana White is always talking, talking, talking... Didn't he say EliteXC was going out of business too? And aren't they about to run their second CBS Special which was seen by more people than all of UFC?

It's ridiculous.

UFC is starting to fall off and instead of addressing the problems, White just pretends it's not happening. But now that all the top name fighters are leaving UFC he's going to be stuck with Griffin and Rashad Evans.

Dude the guy's done contract negotiations by getting into the ring with fighters he wants to sign. Overconfidence is his trademark at this point. besides part of marketing sports, you have to talk like your the only real game in town.

Dana White is a moron. For him, anything outside of UFC is ridiculous. He beleives that UFC will be bigger than the NFL, MLS,etc.

ha well it wont be too hard to top MLS

Dana is just the new Vince McMahon, right down to trying to embarrass every other company. Affliction going down is akin to Vince telling me that I was just in Rasslin business. Mother fucker, DAMN YOU VINCE! THEY TOOK AWAY MY RASSLIN! WHY DID YOU RUN SURVIVOR SERIES AGAINST STARRCADE? YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE.

Posted By: Ted Turner (Guest)  on July 22, 2008 at 09:41 PM

Lets see he didnt compare Affliction to IFL he said how long do you stay around if you don't get the money you pay back. 2nd the ufc pays zilch because all your sponsors are paying you more money then anywhere because your in the UFC. Tell me your sponsor is going to pay you the same if your in a lesser organization. You can't build an organization off one weight class. Affliction will fail miserably dana prediction is correct.
