Roger Huerta Unhappy With The UFC
Posted by Dustin James on 07.31.2008

In the latest issue of Fight Magazine, UFC lightweight Roger Huerta blasted the UFC and mentioned that he doesn't care if he fights for the UFC or somewhere else. Huerta and the UFC have been having issues for months now due to the money amount on a new contract. He has one fight remaining on his current contract after his UFC 87 fight against Kenny Florian.

Apparently Roger hasn't seen what they've done to others in his position with contract disputes...

If it keeps up, we can expect Huerta to have his last fight 6 months from now buried on an undercard against Nate Mohr or some other chump - even if he manages to beat Kenny.

Does Roger see what is happening to the other orgs? They are all losing money.

Affliction is the only one who paid bigger purses than the UFC. They lost a boatload of money and want their fighters to take a 50% pay cut for the next show.

Roger would be wise to win his fight before he complains. He doesn't want to piss off Dana and then lose. That is never a good idea.

So that means that it is almost time for Dana to become unprofessional and start bashing Huerta's skills.

I like Huerta, I think he's a good fighter and an entertaining one as well. Without knowing the dispute money-wise, ie what he makes now vs what he wants to make, it's hard to say how much leverage he has. The one problem though is he and Florian are both on the cusp of being top contenders in a stacked division, so he's not necessarily "in demand" as much as he may think he is...which is probably why he thinks he should get more money but the UFC doesn't. Who knows. I do hope they iron this out and he stays in the UFC though.

mma is going to be killed by the UFC if some type of world sanctioning body doesnt come. I still dont get how they are getting away with running it like pro wrestling.

Lets hear some numbers! what do you guys think Huerta is worth? I think he's a valuable asset to the company. He has the SI exposure, he always has exciting fights, he's proven that he's AT LEAST a top-of-the-middle LW, and he's extremely marketable (just take a look at the way your girlfriend is on the edge of her seat next time he fights). I'd justify a contract along the lines of 75,000 per fight with a 25,000 win bonus. What do you guys think?

Dont blame him...The fighters are the ones that bring in the fans and the money to the UFC, they are the ones have to take the punches, kicks, knees etc to the face. It's only natural that they should earn more money. Dana White and others are not fighting in the ring yet they are the ones taking home the bigger pay packets, where is the justice in that? The sooner MMA has orgs like the WBO, IBF etc the better it will be. The UFC can still run but they can be a promoter rather than a org and Dana can be MMA's Don King!
