Joachim Hansen Has Some Harsh Words For The UFC
Posted by Dustin James on 08.17.2008

DREAM lightweight grand prix winner Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen recently sat down with Intheguard.tv and discussed his true feelings toward the UFC. The two were in contract talks earlier this year, however Hansen remains in Japan:

"I would fight any one of the UFC lightweights, but the problem is that I will never put my foot in the octagon after they (UFC) tried to be funny. I would rather have bleeding hemorrhoids than fight for the UFC."

"The Japanese MMA audience is the best in the world. They make magic! I would rather have one true Japanese MMA supporter than one million fake mainstream supporters that will turn their back on you as soon as you lose a fight. I don't care about things that are mainstream."

"I don't care about things that are mainstream."

I like to imagine Hansen wearing his favourite emo-wig while making this comment. Now he may have problems with Dana and the other big heads at the UFC, but why he would want to insult the fans is beyond me...

Sounds like someone needs a puppy to feel loved.

I think he's right. The mainstream crowd in the US is very fake, and very fickle. Just on this site alone it is easy to observe all of the people who cheer for one guy, and analyze him, then if he loses you turn into the little keyboard tough guy that could.

It's popular, therefore I hate it!!!

"I don't care about things that are mainstream."

Hansen went on to say "Yeah, I'm really into a few bands right now...but you probably haven't heard of them." before snorting dismissively.

What an idiot.

I suppose he only liked old UFC, before they sold out. Fucking albino.

KGNine has bought and pwned this comment thread.

Hansen: "You laugh at me because I'm different, I laugh at you because you're all the same."

"then if he loses you turn into the little keyboard tough guy that could."
example #1: guest #4647

What is with people having a problem with "mainstream" fans? This has got to be about the dumbest thing ever. You know all you "hardcore" MMA fans that are constantly bitching about so and so not making enough money? Do you think he would even be making that if it wasn't for the supposed "mainstream" fans that you people bitch about all the time? If you think they would, I would like to point out the way UFC was nearly out of business before it became a mainstream attraction. That whole Mainstream vs. hardcore fan BS is such a tired argument. Why the fuck does it matter if Joe A started liking MMA because he seen TUF season 1, or if Joe B likes MMA because he caught a Pride show when he was in Japan 10 years ago? Who the fuck cares? you both have an appreciation for the sport... Does it make Joe A less of a fan because his roots to the sport vary from Joe B? I don't think it does, and if you ask me, Joe B is the bigger asshole for thinking he is better than someone else just because he has been a fan longer.
This stupid casual vs hardcore fan shit pops up in every section of this website, and it has never made any sense to me at all. Hardcore fans are the reason the sport has existed as long as it has, sure. But the casual fan is the reason you get so many great cards each month. If Dana and co, or Affliction were not trying to impress them, you would still be stuck watching fights featuring a half hour of laying and praying. Get over it. We are all fans, for whatever reason.
As for Hansen not liking anything mainstream... well that makes him sound so cool, I wonder if he has to work to seem that edgy, or if it comes naturally... Fuckin Tool.

By fake mainstream fans, Hansen probably means the drunk idiots that booo constantly. One drunk idiot boos and the lemming crowd joins in. Japanese fans seem to respect the fighters more.

I will be the 1st to admit, UFC live crowds suck. Half the people there just like being somewhere, and usually end up ruining the event for the other half who actually want to watch the fights. When I went to Affliction it was fantastic because the people there knew who the fighters were.
