Anderson Silva vs. Chuck Liddell Being Considered For UFC's NYE Show?
Posted by Dustin James on 08.17.2008
If GSP/Penn doesn't happen, will Liddell/Silva?
NBCSports.com has an interesting piece up on its website right now where it mentions that if Georges St. Pierre isn't ready to fight BJ Penn on the UFC's New Year's Eve show in December than the UFC may be interested in booking Anderson Silva vs. Chuck Liddell for the show. That fight has a few obstacles in its way as well. Liddell is facing Rashad Evans in September and Silva is facing Patrick Cote in October. However if both fighters are healthy going into December than the UFC is reportedly very interested in booking that fight.
Another fight being thrown around in case Silva or Liddell are not ready by December is Forrest Griffin defending his UFC light heavyweight title against Wanderlei Silva.
ok so silva is going to fight 3 times in 5 months, i dont care how quick the fights are, he is not a man, he is a god

I would be very interested in seeing if Anderson Silva could beat Chuck Liddell. To date his toughest challenge has been Dan Henderson and Rich Franklin.
I don't think that Wanderlai should be considered for a title shot just yet.

doesnt seem like a possibility at the moment

Wandi is 1-3 in his last 4 fights... 1-1 in the UFC
If beating Jardine gets you a title shot... well, the top contenders list just got very crowded.
Chuck fought in Sept. last year and had no problems returning in Dec. to fight again.
Silva generally prefers to fight every 3 months, so just so long as he doesn't hurt himself in Oct, he should be ok. It'd be a month rushed, but from his interviews, that's how he prefers it.

Silva is quicker, but jeez. If he gets caught with a Liddell right,it'll take 2 days to find the head.

Silva went on record back in June and said he would like to fight 3 more times this year. Everybody knows the Silva/Cote fight is going to be a quick one. I think the big question mark is Liddell's health.

even if this was true it's bullshit !
Why is UFC so quick to blow their load ? Teh middle weight and light weight are alwasy being throw at the wolves - makes me wonder why have a HW when you oly see that defedned once a year if were lucky !

wandy's record over his last four fights sure does suck...but keep in mind that he lost to cro cop, henderson (i think wandy needed more time after the cro cop headkick), and Liddel...nothing to be ashamed of...wandy deserves a title shot just for being wandy, title fights don't have to be one vs. two all the time...why in the hell are mma fans so hung up on "deserving" and make believe rankings? wandy for the title is a superfight, just sit back and enjoy douche bags.

2 fights ive wanted to see for a while on the same card would be great

Considering that belts should be worn by the best, it would only make sense that title fights should be between the 2 best out there.
Wandi has the ability to be one of the best, but he's been falling short recently- when others haven't been.
Just because they're a veteran and have put on some great fights in the past, doesn't mean they should get free pushes for life when there are plenty of other guys out there with better records asking for a shot.

Griffin vs Wanderlei is the one that interests me the most.. Mainly because of my love for Wanderlei (i do admit however that he needs at least another win before a title shot)..
Liddel vs Anderson Silva is huge, but if Anderson isn't really staying at LH then why bother?

Silva never said anything about not fighting at LHW. He simply stated that his top priority right now is defending his MW belt. As for Wandy? I say put him in with the winner of Evans vs. Liddell. Then give the winner of that fight a title shot.

That title is misleading.
They always hold their events on a Saturday, which this year is Dec 27. NYE is on a Wednesday.
Don't lie to the people!

Great idea- except that Liddell already beat Wandi just last December.
It's a shame they're friends, but I'd match Rua against Wandi... and feed Jackson someone who hasn't whooped his ass already. Considering what happened when he lost to Forrest, I don't understand the idea of having him fight Rua again right now. Someone like Stephan Bonnar would make more sense.

3 fights in 5 months isn't a lot, not when they are fights where Silva took little or no punishment. In the 1990's the UFC had fighters fight 3 people in one night! And those were no time limit fights with no rest periods. The mentality of modern society has gotten weak.

Wandy not deserving??? How about Forest Griffin getting a title shot after only defeating an injured Rua? Forrest got Tko'd by Jardine and lost a decision to Ortiz. If that's the way people are looking at it, then Chuck would be next in line for the title shot after defeating a former champion wanderlei. In all honesty, the only real solution would be to have the winner of Machida/Thiago fight Forrest for the title at the end of the year.

Griffin beat an injured Shogun? Give a f*cking break. If by injured you mean flabby and off his roids, then yeah, he was injured, and got worked by a superior fighter. Period.

Get your head out of your ass, Rua had knee problems going into this fight and didn't want to pull out due to his contractual obligations and his fans. He wasn't able to come into this fight 100%. Get off Forest's dick already.

kaktus316 you are an idiot, superior fighter??? Give me a break, Shogun was coming into the fight injured and he wasn't able to train and condition properly that is why he looked the way he did. Has Shogun ever come into a fight looking like he did against Forest?? Answer is no, he's always been well conditioned and his stamina is among the best in the game. You could clearly see in the Forest fight that he was gassing.

...and Forrest went into the Rua fight with a gimp shoulder and an arm that's been broken for his entire career. What's your point?
It may be hard for you to believe, but when you fight for a living- you get hurt. It's EXTREMELY rare for a fighter to go into a fight 100%. If Rua's ACL was effecting his training that much, he could have called it in - but he didn't so that can't be used as an excuse.
If they were to fight again, the outcome may be different, but there's no denying that Forrest was the better man that night- when it counted.
On a side note- no, Forrest didn't deserve a title shot... but since they were hyping Rua to be the second coming- and Forrest spanked him, they put themselves in a very bad spot where there were basically forced to give Forrest the title shot.
It didn't help that most anyone else they could give the shot to was either already scheduled, out on injury, had lost their most recent fight, or a combination of all the above.
