Update in Delay on EliteXC/Affliction Drug Testing Results
Posted by Bren Oliver on 08.20.2008
Bad news for both MMA promotions...
Fans have been wondering as to the reasoning behind a delay in the CSAC's announcement of a finalized list of drug testing results relating to both the "Affliction: Banned" (7/19) and "EliteXC: Unfinished Business" (7/26) events. While some fighters have already been announced as showing no trace of either anabolic agents or "drugs of abuse", and others have already been suspended for positive tests (Justin Levens), a handful of other Mixed Martial Artists have been left in limbo. According to the CSAC, they won't be waiting for long.
411Mania received word from the California State Athletic Commission that the extended waiting period was based on the lab testing "B" samples (possibly as a means to confirm dirty "A" samples). In addition, the CSAC made the following statement...
"The final "B" Sample results are in. However, athletes must be notified prior to release of public information. There will be one confirmed positive from both the Roy Englebrecht Promotions event sponsored by Affliction and the Elite XC event. We anticipate the information will be made public within the next 24 hours. "
Who might the guilty parties be? Based on previous results sent to 411Mania, it appears the only remaining athletes from "Affliction: Banned" are Fedor Emelianenko, Tim Sylvia, Edwin Dewees, and Rogerio Nogueira. There are a few more possibilities when it comes to EliteXC's roster, though we can confirm Scott Smith, Robbie Lawler, and Nick Diaz have all been been cleared. It should also be kept in mind the CSAC stated all EliteXC athletes tested clean for "drugs of abuse", meaning tomorrow's announcement will almost certainly involve some sort of anabolic or masking agent.
