Various News: MMA Three-Way Fight, Undertaker/Kimbo Slice, More

More news on a busy Sunday.....
-The Baltimore Sun's Mark Chalifoux has a blog up on the Baltimore Sun's website where he mentions opponents that he would like to see face Kimbo Slice at EliteXC's next CBS special on October 11. His choices include members of the media, The Undertaker, Ken Shamrock, and yes, Gina Carano. You can read that here.
-There is an MMA show tonight at the Masonic Lodge in Norfolk, Virginia. Every fight on the card will be an MMA three-way last man standing fight. It's MMA billed as "San Do", a Japanese discipline. They fight in a 12-sided ring with walls at a 45 degree angle for three three-minute rounds. When all 3 fighters are in the fight, you can't take the fight to the ground. You have to remain standing until one fighter is eliminated. If and when a fighter is eliminated, the two remaining fighters compete under regular MMA rules.
-Pro wrestling trainer/manager Scott D'Amore was Frank Trigg's corner man during last nights "Sengoku 4" in Saitama, Japan. Trigg won via unanimous decision over Makoto Takimoto.

MMA 3 way? This is a bad idea. There is really no point as it proves nothing. Whats next? TLC? Coffin Match?

This could be bowling shoe ugly. Better some small promotion try this before UFC or DREAM or EliteXC tries it.

Ha!!! 3-way MMA, I was watching the Lesnar / Herring fight with my Bro & Cuz (I'm a wrestling fan / they are MMA fans) and said a great way to make new fans was to throw 4 fighters in the cage at the same time and make it like a street fight. They told me to keep that crap for Monday nights. Who thinks it's crap now? Not the promoters.

a 3-way mma fight? good grief that sounds stupid...what a-hole came up with that idea? whoever it was needs to been shot on sight...

I believe they mean a 135 degree angle for each corner. If the walls were formed at 45 degree angles, you couldn't make a ring with 12 sides. It is mathematically impossible.

how the hell did the three way match get sanctioned - actually did it get sanctioned?
They have tag matches in Japan, but thats Japan.

If MMA ever gets banned it'll be from stupid crap like this put on my drunk rednecks.

A three-way match sounds pretty stupid, but I don't mind it because I'd be intrigued as to what it would be like.
I'd honestly like to see a company try a tag team MMA match though.

3-way fights? Save the gimmicks for pro wrestling, please. Where promotions like the UFC and EXC take steps forward for MMA, it's shit like this that sets MMA 2 steps back.

mma 3-way, what's next, a ladder match, falls count anywhere?
Posted By: rey (Guest) on August 25, 2008 at 07:43 AM
sev, sure its possible. the top of each individual section is shorter in length than the bottom of that same section. the angle dont matter. remember, the angle of the dangle is proportionate to the heat of the meat. or, in some cases the bootie of the cutie!

I think it is 45 degrees from Vertical - which ups the trainwreck faactor even more.

Seems Dangerous... Sign me up. I want tickets. My friends and I (all fans of Pro wrestling and MMA), always joke about how funny it would be to see Anderson Silva run in and smack Chuck Liddell with a chair when he is fighting someone! All joking aside, this sounds like a bad idea, especially since they are not allowed to go to the ground till someone is eliminated. What is to prevent a two on one assault from happening to eliminate the more skilled of the three fighters? Then you are left with a full on MMA fight from two guys who spent a bunch of energy trying to fight a third man. I really do want to see this, but I don't see any good coming from it.

wow, these people are why mma is not taken seriously on a mainstream scale.
Posted By: guest (Guest) on August 25, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Ok - can we just cut the bullshit already and let the fighters dip their hands in shattered glass?
Kumate... Kumate...

YeAAHHHH! when they comin to ma town next?
Posted By: Kenny (Guest) on September 04, 2008 at 01:31 AM
Wow, MMA is becoming more like Pro-Wrestling. First Dana White and Tito Ortiz feuding like Austin and McMahon. Ken Shamrock ready to get his behind whipped by his little brother Frank. What's next, a Hell In a Cell Match. Im a fan of wrestling, but how will a 3 way match logically and fairly work in MMA. It will make no sense!
