UFC Confirms Rashad Evans Title Shot
Posted by Dustin James on 09.07.2008

During the UFC 88 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Rashad Evans will get a title shot against UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin in the near future after his impressive knockout win over Chuck Liddell:

"(UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta), (UFC matchmaker) Joe (Silva) and I got together and thought yeah, he deserves the title shot. How could you say, 'No, he doesn't deserve the shot' after [the Liddell fight]?"

The fight could happen as early as December at the UFC's New Years Eve Show.

I'm surprised there wasn't more verbal masturbation from Dana about how this proves TUF is best thing to happen to the sport.

Oh well, there's still plenty of time left. We'll see previews for Griffin v Evans every SINGLE week of TUF: Nogueira v Mir.

So two ultimate fighter guys will be fighting for the belt in the deepest weightclass in the UFC. Gotta love seeing those snobby elitist fans squirm over that one.

This should be fun but in the end the belt will be around Machida's waist. It's a matter of time.

16-0-1 is an impressive record and deserves a #1 contender slot. go Evans.

Actually, i guess Machida deserves a shot, i would give him a slight edge over Evans.. The list of names he's beaten are quite impressive, and not just in the UFC..
Rashad, as incredible as his KO of Chuck was, has bearly been impressive in his prior two fights.. A lucky draw against Tito, and a split decision over Bisping (who's a 185 pounder now) isn't that impressive.
I think they should have Machida Vs Forrest in december, and have Rashad fight Thiago Silva in january when Silva gets back from injury, with the winner getting a title shot..

Well said. First we got them to shut up about PRIDE being so much better then UFC. Now we get this and maybe later Fedor will be dethroned... (okay, maybe that last one wont happen, we can dream though).

Yet Jardine was sent packing after beating Chuck ! and than made to fight Wandy Silva whom chuck had beat previous !

And than Wandy rocked Jardine right out of the octagon !

Now Rashad beats chuck and he gets a title offer ! thats fucking BS !

Why wasn't Jardine offered one ? !

Because jardine got owned by Houston Alexander in his previous fight in like one minute. Even though Rashad may have been lucky vs Tito and that he wasn't impressive against Bisping, he's still undefeated and like it or not, Machida's impressive victories BEFORE entering the ufc (bj, bonnar and rich) aren't going to be taken into account. Without those, the only big name Machida has beaten is Tito, compared to Evans' Liddell, Bisping and drew with Tito.

UFC must book a six-way scramble match for the Light-Heavyweight Title. There is no other way that many people are getting that many titleshots.
