UFC President Dana White Comments On EliteXC "Heat"
Posted by Dustin James on 10.09.2008

UFC President Dana White recently sat down with The Boston Herald and discussed his opinion on EliteXC "Heat" which aired on CBS last Saturday:

"I've been busting my ass for 10 years flying all over the planet to show everybody what a great sport this is and what amazing people are involved in it. Then CBS throws this guy who fights at people's barbecues on the main event because they're trying to compete with us, and he gets knocked out in (14) seconds by a guy who didn't win ‘The Ultimate Fighter' and couldn't fight in the UFC. Then the guy turns around the next day and says, ‘The promoters actually paid me to not go to the ground with this guy. They paid me to stand up,' which I'm pretty sure is illegal.

"(Kimbo Slice is) a joke. It was bound to happen. These guys have lost $60 million trying to get this thing off the ground. They're building their promotion around a guy who can't fight. It's kind of fucking stupid, isn't it? You're in the fight business and you're building your business around a guy who can't fight.

"It put a nail in my coffin, too. When dirty people go out and do stuff like that, it hurts. Promoters have a bad rap as it is because of the last 100 years of boxing. We actually started to turn that around and were doing the right things and then you have these guys coming out and doing shit like that. It hurts us."

And here I was hoping for a rant about how after seeing that fight, he blew his load so hard it broke through the glass in his office window, and fell to the ground, killing a small child with its sheer force. Nobody ever gives recognition to children killed by Dana-gasms.

I call FAKE!

Not once did they have to **** out any word so it can't be Dana, right?

Guy speaks the truth...

werd. you have to admit that dana speaks the truth.. hes worked so hard to make MMA a top acknowledged sport and now organizations like elitexc are just out there to make a buck and get ratings and dont even care about MMA's future.. now elitexc prob just bumped MMA back a couple of years fools

I agree with dana and understand where HE is coming from but lets be serious how else is another promotion supposed to compete with the ufc? In order for elite xc to compete and stay alive they had to cut corners and gamble on guys to carry their promotion. It back fired but atleast they tried.

You can't compete with UFC by trying to be exactly like UFC and they did the best they could by trying to be different and shaking things up a bit.

Oh well UFC fuckin rules!!!!!

".... but lets be serious how else is another promotion supposed to compete with the ufc?"

2 ways to go about it...without promoting scrubs.

1. Start out small and build from there- much like Rage in the Cage and Cage Rage have been doing.

2. Spend a butt-load of money and pray- much like Affliction has been doing. There are plenty of top fighters are not signed with the UFC or fighters with the UFC who's contracts will be running out soon.

How can you start off small AND pay a shitload of money? The concept contradicts itself.

The reason competitors cannot get off the ground well is because UFC now has the bar set very very high. People neglect to realize that when UFC started up, fighters were being paid miniscule amounts. Because of this, UFC was able to start off small. Nobody can start off small anymore because the money has to be there. MMA's market is not small anymore.

This is why people like Dana White and Vince McMahon are hated in their fields.

Even if you had good fighters you can't compete with UFC's money so anyone good you have would eventually just leave for the UFC and their money.

The key in business is not to copy cat your competition but to take what that business has done well and build on it.

I totally see why Dana is so upset by this. I myself am a big MMA fan....or should I say, a fan of REAL MMA, so have thought this EliteXC crap was a joke from the moment they started. I think most true MMA fans won't hold this EXC debacle against to other MMA promotions, but the casual audience, which can bring in a tong of money, will probably be turned off, especially if the allegations turn out to be true.

Tubby, cyks lists 2 different ways of going about it, therefore no contradiction

Hmm Guy with a pre installed fanbase, lotsa hype and no real MMA talent. When Dana speaks, I guess everyone should refer only to Kimbo, and not White's own circus attraction, Brock Lesnar. 2 fights in the UFC and Brock has been a main event twice. The only difference is that the UFC is not pinning everything on this guy, while Elite really has little choice.
White seems to forget that the Fertitta's lost a shitload of cash when they restarted their promotion and had to struggle hard to install a fanbase and cultivate it. One of the big things for the UFC while growing was to pit Couture vs Lidell vs Ortiz many, many times. If another orginisation tried to pull that off, White would shit on them for that too.

He's not entirely wrong.

Um... Another difference.. Brock is earning his big paycheck by not fighting cans, and past their prime legends. He is fighting some of the best in the UFC heavyweight division...

And as far as pitting Couture vs. Liddell vs. Ortiz many many times.. Couture vs. Liddell 3 times.. Thats what happens when they split the first two bouts. As for Tito vs. Couture... pretty sure that happened once only, and It took Tito quite a while to get that second shot at Liddell. you make it sound as if some form of the above combination was fighting at every single show, when that was not the case.

Why do the Dana White's of the world make all these comment's on other organization's? BTW, it did the world good to see Kimbo knocked out by a journeyman. Perhaps this will end any debate as to whether or not Kimbo is even an average fighter. He lost all his mystique. The same people who enjoy watching him probably like watching Krazy Horse. Good riddance to both. More importantly, why do people put comma's in every plural word for no reason whatsoever?

Yeah ok Brock lesnar. When you have no viable amature program this will continue to happen.

To all the Dumb Asses out there losing site of the real problem here, the point Dana was making is spot on the truth. It's something that all hardcore MMA fans fear. IF it's proven that EliteXC set up Seth with cash under the table in order to stand with Kimbo, that could be a detrimental blow to MMA as a Whole. People talk shit about Boxing matches being rigged and here we are with boxing promoters rigging an MMA fight. Most Companies are built from the bottom up and EliteXC basically wanted to be a contender right away against a giant that is UFC, it's not going to happen over night!! Shit like this could turn many viewers away from MMA just like it did to boxing. It does hurt everyone as a whole who promotes or competes and people need to realize this. Nobody said starting a business was easy! Bash all you want, but I side with Dana on this.

When has Brock headlined a ppv? Sylvia/Nog main evented his first fight and GSP/Fitch main evented the second time Brock fought.

Brock made his UFC debut against a former HW champ and a recent #1 contender in his 2nd fight. His name and allure gave him a high spot in the card and a nice paycheck, but he wasn't babied in any way. Brock stepped up, fought some very dangerous opponents, and while I'd say he's still too green to get a title shot with Couture, the truth is that there isn't anyone else who's available or more worthy.

Then there's Kimbo and his spoon-fed opponents...

For fairness, we'll ignore his first fight- since everyone's first fight should be against a can.
Kimbo's second opponent had lost 6 out of his last 8 fights.
His 2nd opponent lost 7 out of his last 8.
Before Ken had to pull out, he had lost 7 out of his last 8.

Sorry, but beating someone who's lost 6-7 of their last 8 fights shouldn't make you an impressive/ scary main eventer.

MMA is faker than pro wrestling. at least pro wrestling doesn't pretend anymore. Shit like that happens all the time. They've got one guy that is decent, usually hometown, and they feed him a bunch of jobbers to make him look good and keep people coming back because the hometown hero has a winning record. it's really bad in amateur because the commission doesn't keep up with amateur records. you can be 4-0 in one town and yet you've lost three other fights out of town, but you can still say you are 4-0 and no one will know.

I should pee in his (Dana) mouth and have him say "waaaaakakakaeeeeeeee, ewwwwyaaaa(Laughin)eeeewewewkikikikaaaaeeereeee (evil laughin) heemeekaa", Example, he say weird thing like "waaa" because he is "shemale", he can't keep quiet with pee in his mouth and the name "dana" is a female's given name that why he talk lot about EliteXC than UFC, it because EliteXC is more successfully and Kimbo still unbeaten, he just mistake fall down on his foot step same-time Seth punch his face, it cause him to down on ground, he (seth) don't take Kimbo down on ground, "I don't think so" FANS, watch rent when it release and don't listen to Dana, he just jealious of EliteXC and Seth, who isn't successfully MMA in UFC bec it not what he want, he want be in EliteXC and make that company success over UFC that why Seth successfully and Dana piss.

The comment about fighting at peoples' bbqs made me LOL =)

Well Dana really has no room to talk because some of his fighters are protected as well. Why is it that when "certain" big name UFC fighters get another fighter in trouble the ref is quick to jump in and stop the fight giving the big name fighter a "KO" victory and turn around and make the "no-name" fighters "earn" their KO's? Case in point the Iceman's eareir fights were always stopped early even though earleir fights in the same card allowed fighters the chance to come back from tough positions. It's the same thing but hidden because Dana White gives MMA fans the impression that it's a big fight only to "protect" certain fighters. Say what you want but this is the damn truth.
