UFC Confirms Interest In Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre Superfight
Posted by Dustin James on 12.01.2008
Will it happen?
During a recent press conference, UFC President Dana White confirmed that they may be interested in putting together a "superfight" between UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, if St. Pierre is victorious over UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn in January:
"I think if Georges St. Pierre wins this fight he'll get Anderson Silva. [I think] Georges St. Pierre has the ability to beat Anderson Silva in a pound-for-pound title fight."
If the fight did happen, the fighters would most likely agree on a catch weight. Silva is still rumored to be fighting at UFC 95 in February.

...Guest Guest creams his pants. I want this fight more than any other super fight I could possibly imagine. Well, Fedor vs Godzilla would be good too...

not sure how good this is for long term business but I'm going to love it.

Why have belts if they're not going to defend them?
Silva would destroy GSP- the weight difference is too big... even at a catch weight, SIlva would find a way to walk into the fight 20-30 lbs heavier then GSP. Silva has shown that he has no problem cutting incredible amounts of weight as needed, so another 7-8 wouldn't be a problem.
GSP having to gain another 7-8 pounds of muscle could be a problem... or he'd end up going into the fight that much lighter then the Spider.
...and then it's a matter of questioning if the added weight gain would slow GSP down or hurt his cardio.

Can Anderson get down to 178 lbs (or so)? I figured it would be at 185 lbs...

I would have agreed if Silva had not stated that he is going to retire after 6 fights.
Have him fight GSP, Chuck, Maia, Forrest, Franklin (he considers him his equal- dunno why, but hey I'll watch it again) and lastly BROCK!!!
Then let him retire.

The question is not who, the question is when. He could fight all of the guys mentioned on the same night. Give the man some more competition and let him fight more often!!!!

Spook, Brock would wipe his ass with silva i'm pretty sure that Lesnar has taken shits heavier than anderson silva, people need to stop thinking that silva is unstoppable my money would be on GSP, Silva almost lost his last fight but if i was a big Silva fan i would try to forget that song too

What about Alves' title fight? I still want to see GSP fight Alves. I also wouldn't mind Karo or Shields fights.
What makes GSP awesome is that he adapts and beats guys at their own game, that makes Karo and Shields' matches very appealing as well.

Didnt alves mention at ufc 90 that he is patient and he wont fight again until his title shot?
looks like Alves will be waiting a year to fight now!

It's been stated that GSP walks around at 190, so a title vs title fight wouldn't be out of the question, hell he looked way over 170 at the serra fight

He did?? How? He almost injured his knee while he was running?

I would like to give address to Anderson Silva, "good luck with St.Pierre" the reason I say it is because St.Pierre would end Anderson's career just like he did to Matt Hughes.

"I think if Georges St. Pierre wins this fight.....
You can stop reading right there. BJ Penn is going to beat the shit out of GSP.
GSP vs Silva would be a great fight but I really don't see it happening. I really think Maia will be the one to take the strap off Silva.

After GSP kills BJ we are gonna get the superfight of the century folks! I'd pay the price of the ppv for just this fight.

And if GSP beats the Spider, then he'll headline the next UFC PPVs against Chuck Norris, Shang Chi - Master of Kung Fu, the white Power Ranger and M. Bison.
BOOK THESE, DANA!

gsp will put a stop to anderson silva's career. as you can tell by the last fight that silva fought he isnt up to game anymore. gsp however has every aspect that a fighter needs and knows how to adapt to different fighters abilities. he is the best well rounded fighter out there and i believe he will kill silva.... he will put silva into retirement... silva should have lost his last fight against cote.... and he was going to lose that fight.... silva was great once but he is beginning to slow down greatly.... i see gsp winning this fight hands down...

Okay basically all of you are idiots and have no clue what goes on in the ufc. Anderson silva is amazing. he did not almost lose to cote. He has dominated every single person he has fought in the ufc. The only round that he might have lost was to travis lutter in the very first round. lets see hes beat CHRIS LEBEN, NATE MARQUARDT, TRAVIS LUTTER, RICH FRANKLIN TWICE, DAN HENDERSON,AND JAMES IRVIN. Now if thats not impressive i dont know what is. he is definately not past his prime and would not get killed by gsp for all of you idiots saying shit like that. i think it would be a very good fight that could go either way. theyre both amazing atheletes
