Joey Villasenor defeats Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos in the main event, Sarah Kaufman defeats Shayna Baszler to go 10-0, and Jorge Gurgel vs. Conor Heun was the fight of the night! Check out the full Strikeforce Challengers report for all the details!
Strikeforce Challengers - Santos vs. Villasenor 6.19.09!

MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT - Cory Devela (9-2) vs. Luke Rockhold (4-1):
ROUND ONE: Joe De Robbio is the official. They touch and a straight right DROPS Devela! Rockhold is on his back and killing him hammer fists, and then gets his back and locks in the rear naked choke and THAT IS ALL!
THE RESULT: Luke Rockhold via RD1 (0:30) Submission
Stephen Quadros is with Luke Rockhold. Rockhold said counter punching was the key, and he has dropped a lot of people with the right. He loves the RNC, and he just took it. He has been working his stand up and there is more to come. He is ready for anyone and thanks a ton of people.

WOMEN'S 135lb BOUT - Shayna Baszler (11-5) vs. Sarah Kaufman (8-0):
ROUND ONE: Anthony Hamlet is the official. Here we go, no touch and they circle. Both throw jabs, missing, but Kaufman connects first. Uppercut by Baszler, leg kick and they clinch. To the ground they go and Baszler is in the guard. She works the body, postures up and then back down and works the body. She then transitions to side control, and then to a north south and works for a choke. She has a wacky knee and arm choke, Kaufman works and rolls to her feet and escapes. She pins Baszler against the cage, half guard now and works short left hands. Kaufman keeps connecting and back into the guard. Baszler works a rubber guard, and they get stood up, which was bullshit. They stand, circle and a combo by Kaufman, they clinch and to the cage they go. Kaufman avoids a takedown and works knees. Baszler looking for the takedown again, and they get separated. Good combo by Kaufman and the round ends.
SCORECARD:: Baszler 10-9.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins , they circle, leg kick by Kaufman. Double jab follows and to the cage they go in the clinch. Baszler controls the arms, Baszler tries for the takedown, but Kaufman avoids that. Knees by Kaufman, and then Kaufman lands a great right. Two rights follow, and a great combo follows and Baszler is backing off. Jab by Kaufman, she is controlling the distance right now and then lands another combo. Five-punch combo by Kaufman and Baszler is back against the cage. They trade wildly, leg kick by Kaufman, and another good combo by Kaufman. Leg kick follows, Good left by Kaufman, body shot and Baszler keeps backing off. Double jab by Kaufman, overhand right follows. Another leg kick by Kaufman and that hurt Baszler. Kaufman ends the round with a great flurry of punches.
SCORECARD:: 19-19.
ROUND THREE: Final round now and Baszler works the jab to begin. Baszler shoots after a combo by Kaufman, but Kaufman stuffs her and lands in the half guard. Lots of rights by Kaufman to the head of Baszler. To the guard now, Kaufman looks for a sweep, passes, took the back and Kaufman backs off. Good right by Kaufman. Another good combo by Kaufman, Baszler clinches. Kaufman takes Baszler down and tons of rights, looked for the mount, but backs off. Double jab by Kaufman, combo follows and then a great right cross. Baszler is flat footed, leg kick by Kaufman and a right follows. Baszler is against the fence and eats a combo once again. Two great rights by Kaufman, Baszler lands one as well, but then gets rocked by a combo again. Kaufman works the body as they clinch against the cage. Baszler tries for the takedown, Kaufman lands on top after stuffing that. Kaufman with a good right, backs off and the round ends.
SCORECARD:: Kaufman 29-28.
THE RESULT: Sarah Kaufman via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
Stephen Quadros is with Sarah Kaufman. She puts over Baszler as a great opponent and then thanks her gym. She talks about the choke in the first round and how odd it was. In the second round she gained confidence.
-They hype Affliction: Trilogy.
-Josh Barnett joins us and talks about the last fight. Talk turns to Fedor, and he will punch him for as long as it takes to beat him. He will finish Fedor. Barnett tells Fedor to train hard, but he would kill him mom if he had too.
-We get video for Jorge Gurgel vs. Conor Heun.
-Heun is having a "wardrobe" issue apparently and is delayed in coming out.
ROUND ONE: Joe De Robbio is the official. They touch and here we go. They circle, and then trade wildly. Heun with a sweet uppercut backs off Gurgel. Leg kick by Gurgel, they clinch and Heun with a bunch of uppercuts to the body. They trade wildly and Heun is hurt. Leg kick by Gurgel, overhand right by Gurgel and another leg kick. Heun backs off, takes a leg kick and then a great combo by Gurgel. Heun backs off and isn't using his reach at all. Leg kick again by Gurgel, another and a right. Leg kick again by Gurgel, body shot by Heun. Gurgel back to the leg kicks, eats a right and his right eye is beginning to swell. Leg kick again by Gurgel, Heun trips Gurgel with the leg kick, but cannot follow up. Left by Heun, right hook as well. Good combo by Heun, but the leg kicks by Gurgel back him off. Gurgel circles, Heun unloads on Gurgel and backs him off. Round ends. Close round.
SCORECARD:: Heun 10-9.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins, jabs by Gurgel to begin. Leg kick again, but a combo and collar grab and 5-7 great rights by Heun. Left hook misses by Heun, jab connects. Right by Gurgel, leg kick by Heun. Heun throws wildly, backs off Gurgel, but Gurgel with the high kick and Heun just takes it. Heun gets rocked off of an uppercut try, eats a leg kick, another and a right. Heun is cut by the eye, right hook by Gurgel. Leg kick again, Good combo by Gurgel, misses the high kick and Heun stalks him, against the fence and tons of body shots by Heun. Gurgel is bleeding as they both unload. Good left by Gurgel, leg kick follows. Gurgel with the high kick, checked, left hook to the body by Heun. Wild exchange and Heun is rocked a bit. Gurgel unloads with a combo now, Gurgel circles and a combo by Gurgel. Gurgel with another great flurry, leg kick as well and the round ends. That's some video game shit right here.

ROUND THREE: Final round now, they trade wildly to begin things. Leg kick by Gurgel, superman punch follows. Body shot by Gurgel, both land jabs and Gurgel circles. Leg kick by Gurgel, another and a combo to the body by Heun. Heun misses a giant spinning heel kick. Hard body kick by Gurgel, caught and Heun had him down, but Gurgel gets back to his feet. Gurgel catches a body kick, gets a right. They throw wildly again, both missing. Leg kick and a right by Gurgel. Body kick by Heun, combo by Gurgel. Heun with the kick, Gurgel is down, Heun works the rubber guard. Elbows to the body by Heun. Gurgel out and to the feet they go. Both are tired, leg kick by Gurgel. Body kick follows. Combo by Gurgel, right by Heun connects. Heun avoid the high kick, chases Gurgel, combo by Gurgel. Gurgel celebrates a bit, big knee by Heun and the round ends. Awesome brawl.

THE RESULT: Jorge Gurgel via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
Stephen Quadros is with Jorge Gurgel. He puts over Heun's chin and says he is a class act. Gurgel's right eye is jacked up. Gurgel says he would use his BJJ, but Heun is a good wrestler and he decided to stand, but it was a ton of fun. He thanks his team.
Heun is in now, and says he will get some time and the beach and be fine. He puts over positive energy and says people can realize their dreams if they try. He says he will be a champion one-day. Gurgel and Heun hug.

MIDDLEWEIGHT BOUT - Tim Kennedy (9-2) vs. Nick Thompson (38-10-1):
ROUND ONE: Joe De Robbio is the official. They come out, big right by Kennedy misses. Leg kick by Thompson, Kennedy shoots, looks for the back, Thompson looks for a kimura now, transitions to a straight arm bar try. Kennedy with a body lock as he tries to free his arm, escapes gets the back of Thompson. Has the hooks in and Thompson works to avoid the choke. Rolls, Kennedy in half guard now. No striking on the ground as they work counters. Kennedy gets his back again, Thompson with a sweet reversal and to north south they go. Kennedy to the back, lands a good right from the back, gets the hooks in, Thompson roll sand escapes. To the feet, Kennedy takes Thompson down and has side control. Kennedy with a sweet transition to the mount, but goes back to the half guard. Kennedy to side control, and then goes to the back mount. Thompson again rolls out, Kennedy to side control again. Some good rights by Kennedy, stands up and dives into side control. Half guard now, and the round ends. This was a grappling contest, and it ruled.
SCORECARD:: Kennedy 10-9.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins and Kennedy out with a combo that misses. Leg kick by Kennedy lands, misses the high kick. They decide to stand, right by Kennedy lands. They lock up along the cage, Kennedy with the slam on Thompson, into side control. Thompson tries for a key lock from the bottom, Kennedy gets a body lock for a moment, and back to half guard. Lands a forearm, easily transitions to side control and lands a few rights. North south now, rights by Kennedy and into side control. Hammer fists now follow, knee on belly and then gets side control of the back, starts to land rights and Thompson taps?
Thompson is not happy after the bout and says he was hit in the back of the head. Upon seeing the replay, it looks like three strikes hit him in the back of the head.
THE RESULT: Tim Kennedy via RD2 (2:37) Tap Due to Strikes
Stephen Quadros is with Tim Kennedy. Kennedy wants to fight every month. He claims that he stayed away from where he should not hit, and if he did hit him in the back of the head, he didn't mean too. His gym gives him crap for his lack of groundwork because he loves the striking. He gives a shout out to his brothers and sisters in uniform.
ROUND ONE: Anthony Hamlet is the official. They slowly come out, circle and a leg kick by Santos. Another leg kick grazes Villasenor, good right by Santos as well. Right by Villasenor, body kick by Santos. Double jab by Villasenor, but walks into a left right combo. Leg kick by Villasenor, and another leg kick by Santos. Looping left by Villasenor, and then eats a leg kick. They clinch, knees by Santos and to the cage they go. Knees by Villasenor, elbow by Villasenor as Santos works the body. Villasenor with a trip takedown, v postures up and then into the guard. Good control by Santos, Villasenor working for half guard and gets it. The ref, who sucks warns them to work, which they are. Santos uses the cage to move, Villasenor dives back in with a great right and into side control. Knees to the body by Villasenor, north south now and to the feet, a guillotine and knees by Villasenor. They separate, leg kick by Santos. Both land leg kicks, Villasenor misses a huge right as the round ends.
SCORECARD:: 10-9 Villasenor.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins, Villasenor fake kicks and that sets up a leg kick. Santos with a high kick lands to the shoulder, left by Villasenor lands. Hard leg kick by Villasenor, combo answer by Santos. Body kick by Santos, but eats a right and they clinch, knees by Villasenor. They trade wildly, hard body kick by Santos, right by Villasenor. Leg kick by Santos, another and a third. Villasenor is limping a bit. Leg kick by Villasenor, lands a left as well. Flurry to the body, body kick as well. Hard leg kick again by Santos, wild rights by both, missing and then Santos catches a body kick and lends a left. They clinch, separate and a combo by Villasenor. Good jab by Santos, and back to the leg kick. Spin kick to the leg by Santos. Good right, combo follows and then a jab. They throw wildly , leg kick by Santos, good right by Villasenor to end things.
SCORECARD:: 19-19.
ROUND THREE: Final round now. Leg kick by Santos, misses the spin kick and back to the leg kick. Villasenor shoots, fails, they clinch to the cage, and Villasenor pulls Santos down. Santos in the guard, great rights land. Santos connects with both levels, north south now and to the feet they go, great escape by Villasenor. They trade combos, leg kick by Santos, who is dropping his hands a lot. Sweet right by Villasenor lands, he chases him down and then eats a leg kick. Jab by Santos, leg kick as well. Jab by Villasenor, knee follows. Santos is busted open, body shot by Villasenor. Good combo by Villasenor, uppercut follows. Another big right by Villasenor, Santos is throwing but missing and is tired. Leg kick by Villasenor, double jab and then an overhand right by Villasenor. Leg kick by Villasenor, jabs by both men. Leg kicks by Santos, left by Villasenor. Both throw as the round ends.
SCORECARD:: Villasenor 29-28.
THE RESULT: Joey Villasenor via split decision (29-28 Villasenor, 29-28 Santos, 29-28 Villasenor)
Stephen Quadros is with Joey Villasenor. He puts over Santos, and says he needed the war after not fighting in one year. He was surprised in Santos' countering. He says that the low kicks did hurt, but he was able to check them and he was able to fight through it. Joey Villasenor wants to recover from the fight, and then he will fight who ever they want him too. He wants to fight Cung Le for the title.
-Mauro Ranallo, Stephen Quadros and Pat Militech close out the show, and say that Villasenor won and that it shouldn't have been a split decision.

Like I said before Hockey and MMA is BIG in Washington and there was thousands of people there even babys I even saw a drunk Army guy get slaped in the face but how about Steve Hadsel Knocking Out Taylor Roberts in 17 seconds AMAZING!!! Jorge Gurgel vs. Conor Heun WOW That was an all out WAR GREAT SHOW!!!
