411's Ultimate Fighter Report 9.30.09: Episode Three
Posted by Patrick Mullin on 09.30.2009

Last week on the Ultimate Fighter… James McSweeney emerged the victor of potentially the worst fight in TUF history against Wes Shivers via Majority Decision. That victory earned the right for Team Rashad to choose the next match up. The match up Rashad chose leads us to the biggest fight in the history of The Ultimate Fighter as Rashad chose Roy Big Country Nelson of his own team to take on KIMBO SLICE! The former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson has faced names like Arlovski and Monson, while Kimbo Slice is looking for a chance to prove his legitimacy as a mixed martial artist.

411's Ultimate Fighter Report 9.30.09: Episode Three

  • Before we get into the episode I'll be formally taking the reigns on TUF Reports for this season. Jeremy has had a scheduling conflict and I'm going to do my best to live up to the standard he set, and a big thanks to Larry Csonka for covering last week's show.

  • We visit the house where Kimbo has put things in perspective between himself and God in his exile in the house, or so he describes to Abe Wagner. We'll know "Kimbo" will be at rest when the beard is gone. Will he ever be at rest though? Kimbo has a silly epiphany about himself being his own worst enemy that sounded absolutely ridiculous when he said it. Seriously it was Ultimate Warrior in his heyday esque. All he needed to start doing was mentioning the planets aligning to draw upon the powers of Warriors passed. We join Kimbo as he does some road work. Brendan Schaub and a few of the guys discuss that the fight could be a PPV. Roy Nelson feels Kimbo is a good guy who got the limelight too fast, but ran with it. Kimbo is an average guy, who doesn't feel he's a superstar and doesn't have a chip on his shoulder or anything to prove. He's a family man who likes to fight.

  • Team Rashad heads to the gym for their training session. Roy wants to run with the opportunity he has and making the UFC his home for the next 4 or 5 years. Rashad says he's very talented but doesn't like to depend on anyone for anything. He even trains in his house. Rashad wants to gain his trust and feels he has at this point in time. Rashad points to Nelson's experience as a big factor in picking him for the team and to fight Kimbo. Keith Jardine stops by to check in on Rashad's training session. Rashad says Rampage's jaw will probably start hurting as soon as he sees "KJ". OH SNAP! Rampage brings his team in and Rampage and Keith are actually pretty friendly. Rampage says he likes him a lot and they had a good fight.

  • Rashad begins needling Rampage about the jaw injury against Jardine. Rampage and Rashad argue about who didn't want to fight who. Rampage accuses Rashad of sending Jardine to do his dirty work. Rashad accuses Rampage of fighting Keith instead of him to get an easier fight. Rampage makes fun of Rashad's breath hiding behind Tiki and saying that's how he knocked out Chuck Liddell. Rampage calls out McSweeney and McSweeney isn't one to back down. Rampage starts mocking his English accent while McSweeney tells him all he does is stir shit. Rampage accuses James of having Rashad's nuts in his mouth. Rashad pulls McSweeney out because he thought he was ready to hit Rampage and get booted from the show. We go to our first commercial break.

  • Rampage says the most shocking thing of this season is Kimbo. He asks Kimbo about his beard and he's been growing it for years. Rampage is surprised about what a good guy he feels Kimbo is. The thing he likes most about him is his humility and willingness to learn. We see Team Rampage in a training session mainly focusing on Kimbo. The idea is to get Kimbo confident and work with him on his takedown defense and how to get off of his back. Rampage mentions Zak Jensen being able to stay on Kimbo in the mount due to his size. Rampage wants to drill with them again because of Roy's size. Rampage and Tiki question each others methods on how they're coaching Kimbo's ground game. Rampage spends a while wondering about the belly of Roy Nelson. In fairness its pretty immense.

  • Back at the house Wessel, Mitrione, and Schaub are talking about Roy's chances against Kimbo saying he's an easy target standing. They specifically mention Kimbo's head movement which is essentially just a constant pattern of moving his head left then right while still standing right in front of his opponent. Wes Shivers has some words of encouragement for Kimbo, basically telling him to believe in himself and how the coaches won‘t steer him wrong. Nelson talks about crucifix position and how if you count shots you land out loud the ref has a greater chance of stopping it. Roy talks about the intricacies of the ground game with some really veteran insight. We again head to commercial.

  • Team Rampage is back at the gym for another training session. Big Marcus Jones again seems to be having difficulties with his conditioning as he walks off. Rampage begins yelling and asking where he is. Marcus is now checking out his knees, specifically the left. Scott Junk makes it clear after Kimbo fights he wants to fight. Marcus then says he was promised the next week, and Rampage points out his knee problem. They argue about whether he can fight or not and Rampage wants to smack Marcus out of frustration. Rampage and Marcus talk on the side and Rampage says he's confident in him but doesn't want to put him in too early if his knee is bothering him. Marcus shows his emotions and agrees to go help Kimbo train. Rampage says next time he'll get a foot in the ass.

  • Back at the house Scott talks to Marcus about his sensitivity. Marcus admits his nickname is "Big Baby" and that he is an emotional guy. He used to play Dungeons and Dragons, loves comic books, and his true passion is his garden at home. He's also not kidding. He has about thirty plants at home and shows an inhuman love for his gardening. Kimbo says he won't judge him because he's a big dude from the hood. Kimbo and Marcus talk about growing up in the hood and how things changed for them. Kimbo didn't realize how known he was until a while after his fights were put online. Marcus says Kimbo is a good guy and a mentally strong individual who he feels a connection with. Kimbo and Marcus basically have a bromance and all that's missing is a musical montage like Savage and Hogan had at the height of the Mega Powers days.

  • The guys show up the next day to weigh in for their fight. Kimbo tips the scales at 230 pounds. Roy Nelson comes in at a svelte 264 pounds. Dana goes over all the possibilities the fight has between Nelson's ground game and experience and Kimbo's ferocity and punching power. Dana tells Roy he doesn't look 264 until Roy shows him the belly that Rampage seems fixated on. Dana then concedes.

  • Kimbo puts in some work with his team prior to his big fight. The guys engage in some really hard sparring sessions on the ground and standing up. Nelson also gets to work in the gym. While Rampage's team seemed to think he had a good chance of an upset, Team Rashad seem extremely confident in Roy's ability to beat Kimbo. Mitrione is in fact already sure of a victory over Roy, and feels this victory will get him to the UFC regardless, even with his "bad body".

  • Fight day is here. Rampage loves the work ethic of Kimbo. Rampage and Kimbo joke a few hours before fight time. Kimbo says Roy's game plan will obviously be to put him down because he's a shooter. The guys work out in the locker rooms. Nelson feels they've both paid their dues although he's done it more. Nelson says Kimbo will bring it and could KO him, but is optimistic he'll get it to the ground where he likes it. Nelson says if he feels he's winning the striking game he may keep it there, but obviously if its going the other way he'll take it to the ground. Kimbo fights because people want to see him fight, and because HE wants to see himself fight. He then throws up the Diamond Cutter sign. Hey Roy, BANG!

  • THE FIGHT: ROY NELSON {13-4} VS. KIMBO SLICE {3-1}

ROUND ONE: Your referee is Herb Dean. Slice will enjoy a three inch reach and two inch height advantage. Nelson outweighs Kimbo by 34 pounds. Roy out working his jav. Kimbo backing straight up. Roy keeps pumping out the jab. Lands a good one and Kimbo avoids the clinch. Roy working smart so far. Kimbo now throws a jab out. Kimbo with a leg kick. Into center octagon and Kimbo backs Roy up with his jab. Roy feints his way off of the cage. Kimbo to the body. Roy working a steady jab. Kimbo starting to jab with him. Nelson throws a hook Kimbo avoids. Roy with a left hook/jab combo. Kimbo bakcs Roy up and throws bombs not landing. He gets through with a dirty boxing uppercut and throws heavy shots but doesn't land. Roy gets a hold of him and puts him against the cage. Roy looking to put him down. Hits him with an open hand and gets double underhooks. They move along the fence and Slice is fighting the takedown with everything he's got. Nelson uses knees to Kimbo's far leg. He's also pressing into Kimbo with his head to keep him from thinking too much. Kimbo pushes Roy back but gets swept and Roy has mount! Over a minute to go. Kimbo looking to stall and holds Roy's head down. Roy gets free of his grip and puts his weight on him. Roy has wrist control of Kimbo's right hand and moves to side control, and a crucifix position. Slices nearly sweeps him using the fence but Roy uses his weight to leverage him back down. Roy working some ground and pound from the top and Herb Dean is telling Kimbo he needs to fight. 10 seconds to go! Roy is pounds away with shots that aren't necessarily heavy and the round ends.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Roy Nelson. He asserted his jab early to confuse Kimbo and when it went to the ground he assumed control fully. He didn't hurt Kimbo on the ground but completely took away his ability to defend hence why he was able to land so many unanswered shots and nearly got it stopped.

ROUND TWO: Kimbo throws a power jab at Roy. Kimbo appears a little more winded than Roy at this point. They each wing some shots that don't land and clinch. Kimbo lands a right hand and throws a knee, but Roy takes him to the ground into side control. Kimbo on the advice of Rampage is looking to stall for a stand up. Roy again has wrist control of Kimbo's right hand. Now Roy throws some shots with his left hand to Kimbo's head and face. Nelson now scooting into another crucifix style position taking away Kimbo's defense. Roy throwing light arm punches but Kimbo can't defend and Herb Dean stops it!

OFFICIAL DECISION: Winner by TKO, Round 2, Roy Nelson

  • Dana comments on the lack of power in Roy's punches. He said it was as if his daughter had him pinned down and hitting him. Rashad was really happy with Roy's performance. Rampage again goes back to his belly. Roy asks for a double whopper with cheese. Dana is pissed because Roy did just enough to win and not get hit, and feels he's acting as if he should be worshipped. Roy's happy and ready to get home and get something to eat.

  • Dana says Kimbo stepped up and fought, but needs to use this time to learn and take the next step in his career. Dana says one thing about TUF is that its never over till its over, and he may have an opportunity to fight again on the show. Kimbo feels like shit but he knows he has to keep going and he's not going to quit. He's going to keep at it.

  • Next week's preview shows Marcus Jones looking dominant in sparring, but collapsing at the house, speculating a Kimbo comeback. Team Rashad cooks up a strategy to continue a win streak, but there's a traitor in their midst.

I support Roy's (Greg's/Rashad's) strategy because why waste more energy than you need to and take more hits than you need to when you know in the next few weeks you have ANOTHER fight against someone you don't know yet. Then if you win that one...ANOTHER FIGHT.

Plus, if Roy WAS landing power shots Kimbo would be gone man. Eff you Dana.

I bet money that Kimbo wouldnt win a single fight. Now he may be returning? What about that dude with the big gash on his head that also lost?He could fight,or that big dude that had no conditioning at all,I bet he is willing to step up....Not Kimbo,Why Kimbo

Other than the bet the rest of my coment was a joke.Im very excited to see Kimbo get back in there and have some one else take him to the ground and do the same exact thing.

Dana is going to find a way to get Kimbo back on TUF. No way is he going to let him stay off.

Even though he lost, I'm way more impressed with Kimbo.

Roy Nelson couldn't stand then he literally just beat him like a 8 year old would. held the arms and landed light punches.

its obvious kimbo is coming back, with the way dana and rashad and rampage hyped kimbo and down played roy nelson ,plus with that teaser of next week, this is not the last we have seen of kimbo

Much will be made of the damage-less stoppage, but Kimbo looked awful on the ground...again. Yeah, Nelson's pillow punches were weak, but remove Nelson and imagine Cain or Brock in control...it would be really, really ugly.

Nelson did what he had to do, but I would've liked more of an effort to...well, put a decisive end to the fight. Yeah, Kimbo wasn't defending himself, but he wasn't hurt either.

And now Kimbo is assuredly going to get a second shot...hmmmm. That certainly doesn't seem suspicious at all.

That was a lot of hype for a weak fight.

Having some obese non-athlete fall on a guy and paw the top of his head is why I don't usually watch MMA.

It wasn't exciting, but Roy did fight smart. He won without seriously injuring the other guy and definitely without hurting himself and considering how quickly they have to go back to training and on to their next fight in "real time" vs "show time", Roy did the right thing.

(And Dana also bitched about Rashad's performance on his first fight on TUF as well)

I'm sorry, but at some point you got to stand fighters back up. Nelson did nothing on top, Kimbo was not taking any damage. Why not just lay there and let the fat man punch himself out. That was a boring fight, but I say if you get a guy down and you can't do any damage or really even get into a dominate position, stand the fighters back up

i couldn't believe how crappy that fight was. I hate officially am starting the "i hate roy nelson" club. I'm really mad that he told ppl to count the punches to make the ref stop the fight.

I'm also mad that a fight can be stopped when someone is just landing pillow punches. i honestly felt like i was watching WWE or something it pissed me off. Roy nelson should be sent home packing.

    Boxing > MMA

entertainment is entertainment. Floyd Mayweather was right to call mma a fad. it is

Big country Nelson fought the smart fight and he got the big W. It may have been ugly but its still a win. Unfortunately for him he will always be a second tier fighter (a gatekeeper) if he does make it to UFC. But it will be fun to see some of the better fighters knock him out. Kimbos ground game sucks but he still is a very marketable fighter, and at the end of the day the UFC is there to make $$$$$. It may of been a boring fight but all sports have their boring fights/matches, you just gotta take the good with the bad. BTW WWE/TNA are not sports, they are entertainment lol

I love that somebody here tried to claim Kimbo is terrible on the ground based on that performance. Roy Nelson is an overweight pile of **** that shouldn't even be on the show. He could lay on 8 out of 10 fighters and they'd not be able to do a damn thing. Ridiculous really. Kimbo looked much better and they really should of paired him against somebody of a proper size, rather than this overweight guy who actually believes he's a fantastic fighter.

Hope to see Kimbo return, because that was nonsense.

Stupid match with a stupid result, the fat guy just laying on Kimbo doing no damage and acting like he was the shit afterwards. The referee should have stood them up. Greatest moment of the show was Rampage saying:
"We dont have anyone on our team with the big-butted-nes of Big Country.."

    The sad part?

This was, BY FAR, the best fight on this young season of TUF - the first fight was extremely lopsided, and the second was just horrible because of both guys' lack of conditioning, as well as the poor decision.

Posted By: Wyatt Beougher (Guest)  on October 01, 2009 at 07:16 AM

Wow, I find it amusing how many "I hate MMA" guys came out of the woodwork over this show. If you hate MMA, then why did you tune in for a show featuring a non-MMA fighter versus the MMA fighter that defies the norms of MMA fighters? Guess what, guys like Butterbean are even more prevelant in boxing than MMA, yet they are lauded for their skills and athleticism despite their size. Roy Nelson is my hero on this show. He proves that MMA is about talent and skill and that when you mix those things your body is simply a vessel for getting your talent and skill to your opponent. And anyone who thinks Roy Nelson isn't an athlete needs to have their head examined. The big fat guy showed better cardio than the muscle freak.

That was a pile of crap just like last week's fight. If all they're gonna do is sit on each other count me out. Get some guys who are actually gonna fight.

Roy Nelson via WEAKSAUCE lay and pray zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzz

What a terrible fight; he needs to get over himself. He's skilled? He showcased none of it. Where was his BJJ that he apparently has? He didn't do anything but lay his beer gut on Kimbo.

It certainly wasn't the most visually impressive victory but whats that word I just said it was a victory. Its TUF guys all these are is just "wrestle offs" basically at the end to get a good measure of if you get a chance on the main card, undercard, or just good-bye. Like it or not Roy Nelson won he might not have the gentics of everyone but dispite not looking in shape he is in shape believe it or not and once again he won. Kimbo if he comes back or not probably will never have the neccessary ground fighting skills some people are naturals at it Kimbo is not but that can be rememdied with lots of training. Also you guys can bitch about the stand-up all you like but when Kimbo landed did he hurt Roy? So lets think before we bitch about "weak stand-up".

Posted By: Paul (Guest)  on October 01, 2009 at 09:52 AM

At least Kimbo tried to fight Nelson. I have to give him credit. And he made an effort to shove him off at the end of round 1.

Nelson just laid on him, and hit him with "punches like a seven year old (thanks Dana)". It sucked, he did just enough to win, then acted like he put on an MMA clinic.

I hope we get to see Kimbo again. What a way to go out; have a fat man sit on you.

    patrick,
I know this is a pretty popular wrestling entertainment website, however there are quite a few of us who come here strictly for MMA news and dont understand/enjoy all the wrestling entertainment analagys.

I dont know about the Ultimate Warrior! in his hey day. I dont care to know about the bromance that Savage! and Hogan! had during the Mega Power! days.

    Thanks

Why stand them up? Roy was doing something on top of Kimbo; he was slapping him in the head. Brock does the same thing. He just hits alot harder!! Are we pissed because Kimbo's face wasn't pounded in and bleeding like Abe's? Rules are rules...you can only allow so many unanswered shots to the head, no matter how light, before you have to call the fight. Those rules were put there to protect the fighters. One can only speculate that Roy didn't feel the need to pound the crap out of Kimbo. He had him in a prone position twice, and only hit with light punches. We all know he can hit harder than that, so the question should be why he hit Kimbo so light? Was he showing grace to an unprocted fighter? Or is there more money in the re-match? Now the punches may not have been hard, but having only 4 plus ounces protecting your head would still cause some discomfort. We were all wanting a brawl, but it didn't happen. I think Dana is hating on Nelson now because Roy is more of an anti-MMA figure than Kimbo, just based on apperance alone. I still think that Roy will win it all, he just may be the next Danzig in the process.

Posted By: Anderson (Guest)  on October 01, 2009 at 10:26 AM

You guys are ridiculously funny. If Roy stood up because Kimbo wasn't making an effort to get his ass off the ground, I'd say it was fake. If the ref stood them up because Roy was holding his ass down and punching his head, I'd say it was fake. Kimbo seems like a cool guy but this poor showing is the result of getting a poor coach. Rashad would have had Kimbo ready for this fight. Kimbo would have known how to get his ass up. For the record you can't do it by laying there like a dead fish. This has nothing to do with Roy's ability. His soft punches were largely due to not having much visable head to hit. Yes that is because he has a large gut. But that fat ass is probably in better condition that half these NFL stars. It's not bodybuilding. it's fighting. It isn't Roy's responsibility to keep the fight evenly matched. He's suppose to win. He did. Kimbo needs a real coach.

The object of the game is to win and avoid injury so you can fight again. Roy put Kimbo in a position where Kimbo could not defend himself, and the rules say the ref has to stop the match if you cannot defend yourself.

For all you "lard ass" commenters out there, Roy wasn't as winded as Kimbo. Roy was smart and didn't bang with Kimbo, so the fight was not exciting. That being said, his lard ass could whip your skinny asses any day.

Let's not pretend being fat is an asset and Nelson has the best cardio in MMA or anything. He's a second tier (at best) fighter that'd get crushed by the top fighters, and has been destroyed by other second tier fighters such as Arlovski.

Kimbo Slice just happens to be a third tier fighter himself. Nelson absolutely dominated, and Kimbo didn't have answers. It was a letdown of a fight as well. TUF just does not have high level MMA. You would never see someone like Fedor on TUF because he's high level and would skip right past it. TUF is for the guys that for the most part just aren't good enough to make it otherwise, especially now.

I mean this is the 10th season. You have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to get great talent now to go through TUF. I know in the past there have been some top fighters coming out of TUF, but I don't think that's happened the past 3-4 years either, that was mostly the first 5 TUFs. And even among those, they've still got something to prove. Obviously Rashad was a TUF winner and won a belt, but then he lost it in brutal fashion to the first top quality fighter he fought. Rashad's got question marks around him as well. Forrest just got punked by a MW with no trouble. Serra was established but most people consider his title win a fluke. Koscheck hasn't ever been champ, etc.

fights like this do for MMA what shitty decisions to for boxing; it turns off casual fans.

Love how everyone complains that Roy did nothing but use his belly to hold him down or suggests that Kimbo has no ground game because the belly was able to hold him down.

...and ignored the fact that Roy is a black belt in BJJ under Renzo Gracie and has shown little problem holding most anyone down.

Regardless of what the guy looks like, he's still masterful on the ground.

This fight is a prime example of why UFC should separate the "Heavyweight" division into a Heavyweight (206-235) division and a super Heavyweight (236-up) division. The weight differential alone is what gassed Kimbo. He just doesn't have the size to handle such weight (and yes, I know the man is built like a truck, but that fight was evident). Now maybe if he had a coherent ground game, it would have gone differently. Of course, the competition for heavyweight is thin, but it is picking up in numbers and having the separation not only creates a new belt to scramble for, but also more "dream fight" scenarios that could be huge PPV blowouts. This = more money. More money = what Dana White wants.

this is buy far the worst season of TUF!
the first two matches are sub par and this last one is enough to make me stop watching the show. not a big fan of kimbo but to loose a fight because some fat f@$k lays on top of you is rediculus!!!

I like Kimbo. He seems like a good guy...but I am getting real sick of having to listen to his inane comments every 5 minutes.

Is he really the only fighter on the show? Good to see the "Ultimate Hypocrit" (Dana White) jumping with both feet on the Kimbo Bandwagon.

Oh and Roy Nelson proves the Gracie family's criticism of the new UFC is 100% accurate. They said that the introduction of all kinds of rules would mean fighters training to win within the system, rather than training to be the baddest fighter on the planet.

All Fat Country did was take some punches, take Kimbo down, work the crucifix and tap him on the noggin until the ref stopped it...just like he planned beforehand. Nelson had no intention of proving he was the better man. His only intent was to work the referee into a ridiculous stoppage.

This is like stopping the Mayweather/Marquez fight in the 2nd round because Marquez couldn't stop Mayweathers jab.

What a bunch of BS...this season sucks!

You think you had it bad watching Big Country's fat ass waddle around for 5 minutes, we had 5 years of watching him attempt to pplay Basketball here in Vancouver. Oh wait that was a different Big Country fat assed out of shape athlete wannabe, who did just enough to get by in his chosen line of work, and ring in the bucks for doing it.

Listen just cuz im a hypocrite and go back on everything I say (especially when I talk shit about someone) does not mean I will put Kimbo back on the show. Have I ever bent the rules for someone who obviously has no talent and is just a gimmick? Just cuz Junie Brown threw fits and shot glasses at people does not mean he broke the rules. And just cuz he lost twice on the show doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be on a Fightnight against Cole Miller and lose just as pathetically. KImbo showed me and the world that he is scared to attack cuz he knows he will be taken down. But that was so exiting watching his ineffective and overrated striking. And no I don’t say bad-words to be cool, young or hip. Thank you and keep watching TUF.

Rampage is a JOKE as a coach! But I will say this, Kimbo got in the ring and looked lost, like he didn't know what to do IMO. If you watch him in a comedy sketch from Monday night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, destroying breakaway furniture, he looked like a man possessed. He should use that passion in his fights...

    Things, to point out:

    1) Exactly how different was “Big country’s” game plan against Kimbo…
“Nelson just laid on him, and hit him with "punches like a seven year old”
… From Lesnar vs. Mir, at UFC 100…?
“Lesnar just laid on him, and hit him with "Hammer Fist’s like a 10 year old using a lunch box”

    2) “Do we see a Trent in this fights… so far is Team Evans 3-0, and Team Rampage 0-3, I’m not going to do the “Rampage, fears Evans”, but maybe he retired to avoid a complete sweep…?

    3) Let me get this: Dana White is known promoting on behalf of Kimbo Slice, because of the juicy rating’s he brought in for the show, now that he owns Kimbos Ass…? The same guy who once said “Kimbo is a joke”, “That he will never see the inside of an octagon in the UFC”
“Dana says Kimbo stepped up and fought, but needs to use this time to learn and take the next step in his career. Dana says one thing about TUF is that it’s never over till its over” (he means ratings wise)

    4) And basically down talk the winner of the fight, to defend the fact that Kimbo got beat clean, to hype him up…
“Dana comments on the lack of power in Roy's punches. He said it was as if his daughter had him pinned down and hitting him.”

Dana is beginning to confuse the word’s “owner and fighter”… so he just comes out looking like a huge hipocrate, right know…

MMA and Wresting have nothing in common, (one has a script, and the other one is 4 real) but if this was WWE wrestling… It be November 1997, Bossy Bitchy Dana = Evil Vince…

    5) KIMBO, LOST! BIG FAT COUNTRY, WON!... SUCK IT, pENDEJOS!!!

In short, I always expected Kimbo to lose due to his lack of ground training.

However I like him as he's humble and willing to learn (that sprawl and the pushing-off-the-cage escpae are definately new techniques for him.)

Nelson however is an unlikeable, arrogamy piece of trash who used weak, gut assisted lay & pray and the lucky fact that Kimbo doesn't know ground escapes to win the fight.

I hope Nelson gets KTFO soon, entirely because of his attitude rather than the dull fight which was tactically fine, just dull.

In a perfect world, Kimbo would have won his first fight by KTFO, then been submitted in impressive style (standing triangle or armbar would be so cool looking on guys that size) in the second round. Enough momentum to make him and the guy who beat him, a star.

I expect Kimbo back for the finale, and with more defence and ground escape training, I expect him to be a credit to himself and the UFC, because of his humility and will to learn.

Nelson I just don't like, and I can see him getting on Dana's wrong side really quickly if he wins the show...

I thought the episode was great. They built the fight well, the personalities have been established and for me that introduced tension into the fight itself.

I don't think Nelson's gut was of any relevence in terms of his ability to take Kimbo down and put Kimbo into a crucifix.

Nelson is far more dangerous than he looks, and the more I see of Kimbo, the more I wish him well.

Nelson showed great fight intelligence,he said what he intended and then he delivered. The tension from the build up made the fight exciting.

the first three fights have wondering if an all heavyweight season of TUF is a good idea. lets face it - unless its two top notch guys going head to head, heavyweights generally don't have great fights.

No one on here is top notch. The first three fights were a one sided, one dimensional ass whooping, two guys with jv wrestling level stamina, and then Nelson using a safe, but boring gameplan to outclass the one-dimensional Kimbo.

I wonder what the rest of the season has to offer. Last time they had Heavys, they were mostly a bunch of LHW's who didn't feel like cutting weight, several of whom have gone on to do pretty well; they also got to balance the show with WW's.

Worst show ever glad it wasnt ppv not much to say that hasnt been said but while Big Country has good ground skills for over a min he did nothing no hits, no transitions I wanted to see a stand up this was the most boring fight ever.
