WWE House Show Results: Moncton, NB

Results from WWE’s Smackdown brand house show in Moncton, NB this afternoon. Report courtesy Eric Lewis and PWInsider:

WWE’s Smackdown brand was in Moncton, N.B., Canada this afternoon for a house show. There was a decent turnout. I’m guessing around 1,500-2,000 people.

Show opened with Tony Chimel announcing Matt Hardy, who came to the ring and spoke of how we were going to love the show, but unfortunately he was too hurt to wrestle because of the recent attacks by Drew McIntyre. McIntyre then came out and started mouthing off. He and Hardy traded blows, but McIntyre got the better of him. Kofi Kingston then made the save. Chimel announced that while Kofi and Drew were supposed to fight later in the afternoon, Kofi figured why wait? and we went to the match.

First match: Kofi Kingston vs. Drew McIntyre
Winner: Kofi with Trouble in Paradise after Hardy came back out and distracted McIntyre. Decent match with McIntyre getting the most out of it with Kofi continuing to battle back. Some fan cheered for Kofi the entire time, but he yelled “Kobi!!!” over and over, to the annoyance of all of us who know what his actual ring name is.

Following the first match, Tiffany came out as the guest host and asked a youngster in the first row if he could answer a WWE trivia question. The question, I think, was “What is WWE’s next PPV?” Kid answers “Over the Limit” and got the chance to be the bell ringer for the next match.

Second match: David Otunga vs. Darren Young
Winner: Young with a crucifix rollup.

Cody Rhodes then came out and talked himself up, eventually demanding Chimel reintroduce him as the “Uncommon” Cody Rhodes.

Third match: Cody Rhodes vs. Chris Masters
Winner: Rhodes with “crossroads”

Shad Gaspard came to the ring for his match, followed by MVP. The two made fun of each other for a bit, and seemed to be enjoying doing so. Shad kept making fun of MVP’s “ballin'” and his signature poses. He made it look really goofy, and MVP grabbed the mic to ask fans, “Do you have laws in Canada against beating up on the mentally handicapped?”

Fourth match: Shad Gaspard vs. MVP
Winner: MVP with the 305

— Intermission —

Fifth match: Layla vs. Kelly Kelly for the Women’s championship
Winner: Layla with a neckbreaker after what was a decent match, much longer than what the women usually get on TV.

Sixth match: Straight-Edge Society (Luke Gallows and masked man) w/Serena vs. Christian and Rey Mysterio
Winners: Christian and Rey with the 619 followed by Killswitch and seated senton on Luke Gallows. This was the hottest and most interesting match on the show with a few hot tags and some fun offense from Christian and Mysterio.

Seventh match: Jack Swagger vs. Big Show for World championship
Winner: Big Show by DQ when Swagger finally attacked him with the World title.

It was a decent house show. Not quite as much crowd interaction as I expected, but the guys and gals seemed to have fun. Rey Mysterio probably had the biggest pop, but Christian, MVP, Big Show, Kelly Kelly and Kofi Kingston were all way over as well. The tag match was probably the most over match on the show.

The Smackdown crew was heading out to a show in Saint John, N.B. this evening. Saint John is about an hour and a half down the highway from Moncton.
