David Mitchell (171 lbs.11-1) vs. Paulo Thiago (169 lbs. 10-3)
Raphael Assuncao (134 lbs. 15-4) vs. Johnny Eduardo (135 lbs. 25-8)
Erick Silva (169 lbs. 12-1) vs. Luis Ramos (171 lbs. 19-6)
Felipe Arantes (145 lbs. 13-3) vs. Yuri Alcantara (144 lbs. 21-3)
Yves Jabouin (135 lbs. 15-7) vs. Ian Loveland (135 lbs. 14-8-1)
So after tonight I'll be covering Strikeforce's event on September 10th and then I'm out until UFC 136. I've got a busy few weeks ahead of me. The night of Shields vs Ellenberger I'll be dragging kicking and screaming taking my wife to go see Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger (You're motoring, What's your price for flight, In finding mister right,You'll be alright tonight) and then on the night of Bones vs Rampage she'll be forcing me at gunpoint I'll be taking her out for her birthday to see Blink 182 and My Chemical Shmegeggy or whatever the kids call them. Honestly, I can't keep up with these bands anymore. I discovered Five Finger Death Punch a year ago and that's about all I have time for in terms of "new" music. And then on the night of Cruz vs Mighty Mouse I'll be running my first ever half marathon (at Epcot in Orlando, FL). Like I said, I'm busy. I had been planning to cover GSP vs THE BEATING OF HIS LIFENick Diaz but I've just been informed that I must be "social" and accompany my wife to a Halloween party with the nice people from our local Mom and Dad meet-up. What I'm getting at here is that if you've been missing Larry's coverage or just plain hate my coverage you'll be getting a reprieve outside of Edgar vs Maynard III until November.
I didn't come here to tell you that so without further ado, let's make with the fussin' and a fightin'!
INTRODUCTION:
We are live at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!
Mike Goldberg and Kenny Florian (who is filling in for Joe Rogan) are of course on the mic tonight as we go to the octagon for our first fight.

WAR SILVA!!!

the stepback jab that knocked Okami on his ass in the 2nd round is by one of of my favorite Anderson Silva moments. Stuff like that shouldn't be possible

If Anderson Silva fought God and Jesus in a handicap match in the sistine chapel with the pope as the ref he would win by double submission
Posted By: cvb (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 12:03 AM
What a sham!!What a setup!! Okami had nothing for this guy and the UFC knew it. He was scared to death in there. Make competitive fights or think of something else. If the division is cleaned out its cleaned out. Its LHW or forget it. No more of these plodding "strikers" allowing Silva to drop his hands and clown on them. A guy who was actually clowned on himself by amateur boxers at the Wild Card gym

Silva is amazing, his last three performances were joys to behold.
Barboza looked great to. I thought he either tied or won every round. You say he was "running back" but you didn't truly understand what he was doing.
Posted By: Oi (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 01:28 AM
Barboza winning was a ridiculous decision. Yeah he was counter striking... but helps when you hit something that isn't Pearson's arms with 90% of your shots. I had it 29-28 to Pearson and seems most people online did.

Thank you, Luiz Cane, for coming all the way back to Brazil to lose in front of your countrymen. I hope it was worth it.

Great show! Another masterpiece from Anderson, great fight between Pearson & Barboza (thought Pearson took the 1st & 3rd) & Shogun and Nog with sweet KO's!
I thought Nog's chin was done & Schaub was gonna KO him, I've never been so happy to be wrong in my life! May the MMA Gods forgive my foolishness.

I'm sorry, I was watching the PPV and even I thought this looked like a cash grab by Dana.
Okami is good, but I already knew coming into the fight that he wasn't going to beat Silva.
Griffin has been on the downswing of career for a while, and a match with Rua was a HUGE mis-match for Griffin.
I think Dana basically set-up both guys against weaker opponents, just to get a quick cash-in. Decent card, but it was SEVERELY lacking in the competition department.
Posted By: Guest#8954 (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 08:54 AM
the last guy to beat Anderson Silva was Chael Sonnen. Let's be honest, yeah, Silva got the triangle in, but he lost the war.
But let's go further back, to the man who even Chael wouldn't mention on MMA Live, Ryo Chonan.
Look it up, folks, it was one of the classic submissions in MMA history, and HE'S the Asian that scares Silva, not Okami.

So it's the UFC's fault that Silva is so much better than everyone else? This isn't scripted like rasslin.

I would never order a card to see Silva lose. It's not going to happen at 185. This fight actually made me a fan. He looked ready to fight and ready to win. Blame it on Rio! Okami is lucky he didn't shit his pants when Silva started shucking and jiving in rd 2. Jesus christ. If Silva wants big fights, give him the loser of the JJones/Rampage fight. maybe that will get him to move on up. he really should. 185 is a joke for him.
Posted By: rodeo (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 09:27 AM
I agree that Silva is a beast and maybe the best in the world, but his last few fights where not that great of competition. The winner of Sonnen VS Stan is gonna next in line (I'm hoping for Sonnen) and should be a much better test.
Posted By: BigTimmy444 (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 09:37 AM
Props to Okami for at least showing up, and to Silva for making everyone realize he would of had a much more difficult fight trying to program the clock on a VCR.
I mean really, he's one of the best, if not the best fighters in the world and they seem to love to give him fights with opponents that aren't even in the same league as him.
Posted By: Guest101 (Guest) on August 28, 2011 at 11:11 AM
The only guy who could remotely be a threat to Silva is Jon Bones Jones. Sorry GSP is too small.

Chael Sonnen Tested postive for Roids in that fight so he cheated and still got caught so for you to say he lost the war isnt tru caught he was fighting a cheater. and Sonnen sounds like a bitch saying that losing by a triange choke doesnt count, that's a part of MMA. and he calls him self the true middleweight Champ which is also bullshit because if he would have not gotten caught the drug test would have showed he cheated so. he should shut up. an if be beats Stann, and get a rematch vs silva. Anderson Silva will be mad motatved and knock Sonnen out

1. Sorry, Sonnen lost. Decisively.
2. Yes yes, we all know who Ryo Chonan is and what he did. It was truly impressive. But while we're looking things up, why don't you look up what Chonan's done since then?

No one will ever beat Silva, and I seriously hope this GSP being better talk is done for good. GSP doesn't finish fights, period. Silva finishes fights whenever he wants to, period.

GSP also fights top tier opponents all the time instead of cans like Maia, Leites, Okami, Cote, and Irvin, period.

So I take it he just really enjoyed getting taken down and punched in the face by Sonnen for four rounds?

Ryo Chonan is still fighting actually, even had a short stint in the UFC (as a WW) that went 1-3 (all decisions). Today he's sporting an above average record of 19-12 or something and even had a fight recently. The 12 losses might sound really bad, but over half of them are decisions, so at least he's not constantly screaming in pain or falling down in a bloody heap.
That said, neither him, nor particularly Daiju Takase (a 183lbs guy with a 9-12 or something record) look like any sort of a challenge for Silva today, but then again so are (supposedly) all the other 185 pounders on UFC's contract. So why not just bring them both and have Anderson face them, so he could "avenge the losses"? Dana did bring Jeremy Horn and Rampage for Chuck specially so he could get revenge (and we all know how well that went). (and yeah, I know he would bring Rampage anyway, but he stressed the "unfinished business with Chuck" from the first moment)
And what's the worse that could happen? Silva will either knock each of them within the first 2 minutes or will dance around and mock them for several rounds. And he's already doing both of those things. And if any of them suddenly becomes competitive and gives Anderson a run for his money, that's even better.

I would love to see that. The worst that would happen is we'd have to listen to a lot of static about how these guys should have to earn a shot at Anderson blah blah blah.
