So what do you think is the bigger deal? Is it the actual heavyweight fight or is it the fact that the UFC is debuting on network TV? Would this fight mean as much if it were in San Jose next week? Would this debut mean as much if weren't headlined by the two best heavyweight fighters in the world (sorry Klitschko fans)? Is this event marred by the lack of Kimbo Slice?
I didn't come here to ask you all of those questions so without further dudes, let's make with the fussin' and a fightin'!

Well, it wasn't 10 seconds but it certainly wasn't 5 rounds…yeesh. For the record, I've been calling JDS as the winner for months now the radio show : P
UFC is overrated. they build up the main event on fox for 40 minutes and it only lasted 1 minute. lol..

That was the most pathetic hour of sports broadcast I've ever seen. 30 minutes of hyping it up as the biggest fight in MMA history, 1 minute OF ACTUAL FIGHTING, then 9 minutes of excuses.
Dana White said there would be more people watching this than there are who watch the Super Bowl each year, so I hope he's glad that many people watched such an embarrassing showing on network television.
Posted By: Cactus (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:03 PM
a 1 minute main event on UFC? in their FOX debut? thats why i dont like MMA. fights end too much. its worse than TNA on PPV with their 1 minute Jeff hardy vs Sting match.
Posted By: Guest#9875 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:04 PM
Awesome. Now go watch the Pacquiao fight.
Posted By: Alan (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:04 PM
It was never going to be a 2/3 rnd fight. Someone was getting stopped in the first rnd.
Posted By: Ryan Haseldine (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:05 PM
Lol, Dana was so pissed about how the fight ended.
Why can't we have a long epic battle for once on a Network show :-(

Such a let down, they really should have shown the Guida-Henderson fight on Fox to promote the UFC.

Terrible, probably as bad as Survivor Series will be. What a bust of a show. When the shitty rating comes in, you can be sure they won't be this again for a long time, if ever.
Oh well, the Rolling Stones commercial was pretty cool...
Posted By: Maria Thayer fan (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:08 PM
Hogan would've beat either of them in 4 seconds. He could probably body slam them both too.
Posted By: Hulk Fan (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:09 PM
I thought this was gonna be the same as when they show them on spike but then noticed that it was just going to be one fight and thought "this is how you kick off a new network broadcast?". The fight started at 8:40. Would it have run over if it went all 5 rounds? And why do they have the NFL Sunday music?
Posted By: Hum (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:11 PM
Longer fight DOES NOT equal better fight. I'm disappointed the fight didn't last longer. But really, if Cain lands a takedown, then lays on him for the rest of the round, then the next round ends quick with a KO, is that a better fight? No.
Posted By: Guest#2015 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:14 PM
Bad show. That is all.
Posted By: Guest#5320 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:20 PM
That Guida/Henderson fight was AWESOME. I can't believe FOX didn't let that be on TV. The 4 fights before it were also all good. Overall, great night of fights.
The main event really surprised me. I expected Dos Santos to catch Velasquez eventually, but I didn't think he'd just drop him like that. I certainly didn't expect him to do it in a minute. Dos Santos is a freaking beast. Can't wait for the rematch which (knowing UFC) will probably happen after Dos Santos/Leser or Overeem.
Also, I hope they don't use that damn annoying football music for future UFC broadcast. Aside from that the production was great. They should use Chuck Liddell or Randy Couture as analyst in the future.

That was awesome. Sometimes fights are going to 15+mins, some are going to be 10 sec. Some fights are submissions, some are KO, some are decisions. I knew it was going to be quick fight. There is no way these guys would go the distance.

Velasquez looked like a bitch! 1 hit and he was done... at least lesnar took a decent beating and had some offense before losing!
cant wait for lesnar to win the #1 contender and fight dos santos... he should start working on his striking game now!!!
and as far as all these stupid overrated and hate comments... i know your all used to scripeted action but this is real fighting... no one will ever know which fights will last and which ones wont!!!
for a debut on a new channel would you want to schedule any thing other than a big name title fight?
they made the right choice... see fox fucked up by not airing the whole show or at least more fights!

They didn't show in my market (Baltimore/DC). We got Cops, a half hour of reality show-esque hype, the fight, ten minutes of interviews and explanation, then the local news.
I'm not dogging the fight, but would have liked if the would have planned for this and shown additional stuff that showcased more of the first m in mma. Why not show Lesnar-Velasquez and Dos Santos-Carwin (or Ultimate Fighter style recaps) during the build up?

UFC on Fox. EPIC FAIL.
Posted By: Guest#6278 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:58 PM
Maybe you stupid wrestling marks would have preferred Arlovski/Sylvia III which went 25 minutes. Stick to wrestling, MMA doesn't need you.

Easy there Deano Machino, FOX sure as shit did not show any other fights in my market. There was 30 minutes of yapping and buildup, 5-6 minutes of fighter intros, a minute of fighting, and more yapping.
For those bitching that the fight was too short, that's not really something you can complain about. These fighters are in a league of their own. JDS is a giant and he hits like a goddamn jackhammer so if he catches a guy right behind the ear, even a guy as tough as Cain, that guy is going down. Hence the phrase "puncher's chance".

Mma isn't scripted dumb asses the better man won (called it!)
Posted By: jmh (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 11:26 PM
One good thing about the quick finish...it will show Fox that they need to leave control of the show up to the people who know better. UFC know that every PPV they have to slot in a preshow match or 2, as there is always a quick finish.
Posted By: Cyco (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 12:00 AM
ha ha ha! i told you mma has to evolve! now who is the king of kings? it certainly is not dana white and the fajita brothers. 30 min of storytelling with 1 min of action. at least we can do false finishes that can amp the viewers up. so, before i learn, dana, what you need to learn is that it's all about me and how i say it, and it's all about control and...well, a bunch of other words that i can't remember right this second. but the bottom line is, suck it!
Posted By: triple son-in-law (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 12:08 AM
dedicated wrestling fan, casual MMA fan here...
I thought the main event left much to be desired but it highlights the unpredictability of the sport.
At least it was on free TV.

"Maybe you stupid wrestling marks would have preferred Arlovski/Sylvia III which went 25 minutes. Stick to wrestling, MMA doesn't need you.

I am a huge wrestling fan, and have a passing interest in this MMA thing.
Alex is one of the reasons a lot of people get turned off by any form of entertainment with too many obsessive, arrogant nerd fans (wrestling has its fair share as well).
The thing that makes this type of fan worse in MMA, is they come complete with the macho attitude that they present some dire physical threat to anyone who would dare disrespect their little MMA club. I bet this ass has a TAPOUT or AFFLICTION shirt he got from Sears.
Alex aside, the fight was fun while it lasted, but Cain must look like a joke to a first time viewer. The "perfect fighter" is some pudgy tattooed gang banger looking guy that got snuffed out in a minute. Ergh.
Kudos to Junior!

YEAH! Cigano show american wrestler mean nothing when u get punched in face!!
Brasil #1, we come back back! JDS, Anderson, Jose, next Shogun beat Dan (good fight, dan my favorite american fighter) then Lyoto take back belt, WOOOOOOOOOO!
Posted By: Guest#5033 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 03:02 AM
Anybody notice that besides the fox football music, the also closed out the show with "born a champion" (not sure of real title)....same music the WWE uses for the new version of tough enough.
Posted By: animal516 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 03:11 AM
Did Fox actually prevent the UFC from showing any of the earlier fights after the main event? I've been trying to find a source to confirm or deny this, but all I can find is Dana White originally saying they'd show an earlier fight, and then him later changing his mind to "We will only show Cain Vs. JDS no matter what happens"

Scripted or choreographed, yes. "fake"? Most certainly not. You go on the road 200-300 days a year and get bodyslammmed or hit with tables ladders and or chairs then come back to me and say its "fake".

There must have been a different international broadcast because I'm in New Zealand and they showed Henderson v Guida at the start of the show and it didn't have all the Fox graphics, it was the usual UFC PPV graphics. But Henderson v Guida is a MUST SEE FIGHT. The UFC must be kicking themselves for not showing this show on the US broadcast because that was the kind of fight which would've made a lot of people fans of the sport
Posted By: Guest#3411 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 05:29 AM
People give Dana and Joe Silva too much credit for being geniuses and all that but really morons. How else is a fight between these two HWs gonna finish? Oh yeah a five round Cain wrestling clinic.
Also that TapOut ad with the two little mohawked mexicans who will be in juvi in a year or two, not the message you want to send on network tv.
Posted By: Diavo (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 06:55 AM
Baffled by all the 'epic fail' posts. If anybody expected a long fight, you're idiots and it was FOX's call to have one fight, not Dana's?
Dana can use this to hopefully force 2-3 fight cards in the future.
And for any wrestling fans trying to say 'this is why WWE/TNA are better'... carry on watching your overly predictable fake "sport". MMA fans aren't interested in your product, so why post on ours? Go moan about your favourite indy jobber being held down (Y)

Im glad that racist Cain got his ass handed to him, but come on. 35 minutes before the fight starts? They couldnt stick one of the undercard fights on before hand, that way when that ended in 1 minute it didnt matter? This is not a good start for UFC on FOX.
Posted By: Guest#9385 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 08:01 AM
Why is it that back when Mike Tyson was knocking people out in 1 minute, it was awesome but in MMA, people bitch when it happens?
Posted By: Guest#0099 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 08:01 AM
MMA marks aren't going to want to admit it but THIS is why MMA will decrease in popularity and be passed by pro wrestling. Outside of Hardy/Sting you know you're going to get a 15-25 min main event that delivers. HHH was right, you all blasted him when he first made those comments but who's laughing now? Oh and 1 more thing: Survivor Series is probably going to do around 500,000 ppv buys so eat It!

"LOL @ all the wrestling trolls. You retards need to go back to watching your fake sport and stop pretending you know anything about MMA.
Posted By: Guest#1131 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:31 PM"
And I say a double LOL to the MMA douche snobs whose big main event lasted one minute in the 60 minute FOX debut. So much for inroads to mainstream, I know Dana White shit himself at that knockout. Bwahahaha!

We got to see the Henderson/Guida fight thanks to Fox Deportes. Easily fight of the night. Just like Radulich I've been calling JDS as the winner for months. Everyone seemed to forget the Kongo fight where Velasquez got dropped three times. Where are all the haters that were talking about Brock not being able to take punch? Looks like he can take one better than Velasquez.
Posted By: Flying Dutchman (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 08:55 AM
Yeah, we didn't see the Henderson-Guida fight in our market, either. Really seems like a wasted opportunity. They should have been prepared for a short fight, seems like there was plenty of material on the undercard. Strikeforce on CBS was way better. Just a huge let-down for what could have been a great chance for more mainstream exposure.
Posted By: Guest#1373 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:00 AM
Actually a quick finish is a lot better than what Strikeforce did with their 5 round fights earlier in the year. I got my brother to watch it last time, when I told him MMA was on tonight he just said "I won't get tricked again, I saw it last time."
This quick finish will have people talking positively probably. Lesnar-Reem will be fun to watch next month.
Posted By: Guest#4322 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:35 AM
Its not like a Kimbo Slice vs Set Petruzelli match where it was FIXED. Cain took down Lesnar, JDS took down Cain. Thats all you need to know.
Posted By: Guest#5131 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:42 AM
Thats the nature of MMA, anything can happen at any time. At least you didn't have to pay for it.
Posted By: guest1325 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:49 AM
Maybe you stupid wrestling marks would have preferred Arlovski/Sylvia III which went 25 minutes. Stick to wrestling, MMA doesn't need you.
Posted By: Alex (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:59 PM
I really dont see how wanting to have an action packed, back and forth fight is a bad thing.
Especially when we get the Rocky music before the fight... lol
And who doesnt like a vicious KO? This was more of a connection/follow through than a wham bam thank you mam.
Posted By: AG Awesome (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:59 AM
THAT is why I don't like MMA.
Posted By: Guest#7496 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 10:03 AM
In Pro Wrestling, the promoters, bookers and wrestlers have the opportunity to guarantee drama and excitement, unlike a real fight. Makes you wonder why they don't 9/10 times.
Posted By: Engel (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 10:05 AM
ha ha ha! i told you mma has to evolve! now who is the king of kings? it certainly is not dana white and the fajita brothers.

Ok Rick Perry, stop screwing around online and concentrate on remembering your campaign stuff will ya?
Posted By: Guest#8373 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 10:15 AM
UFC is overrated. they build up the main event on fox for 40 minutes and it only lasted 1 minute. lol..
Posted By: Guest#4580 (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:03 PM
That was the most pathetic hour of sports broadcast I've ever seen. 30 minutes of hyping it up as the biggest fight in MMA history, 1 minute OF ACTUAL FIGHTING, then 9 minutes of excuses.
Posted By: Cactus (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:03 PM
Guess none of you are old enough to have ever watched a Mike Tyson fight. Happened all the time.
Posted By: Comment Board Poster (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 10:17 AM
"Peralta gets the math knocked out of him "
We do not need someone who watches Adventure Time to be recapping UFC.

For anybody who is interested, UFC on Fox was shown on Premier Sports in the UK and they showed Guida v Henderson before Velasquez v Dos Santos and then Johnson v Harvison after the Championship fight. So glad they showed Guida v Henderson as that was a great fight.
Do people think that UFC gambled on the main event not getting into the Championship rounds or did they just overrun? If the fight would've gone the distance I'd have missed the end as my Sky+ would've timed out.
Posted By: Baron Skinny (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 10:33 AM
First off people it was a FOX production, not a UFC production...go look it up!
If it was a UFC production you would have had 2-3 fights and filled the entire hour after the 1 round fight. Don't believe me? Go check out how the UFC NORMALLY ran things on spike or vs.
2nd point, the reason HW boxing has been in the toilet for years is because NOBODY finishes fights.
Comparing pro-wrestling (which is a show you have control over and not a real contest), to MMA is a joke.
I personally would rather watch this that a boring ass 12 round HW boxing bout.

Was there live. Great show and great fights.

I love that JDS won and put that piece of shit Velasquez away. Velasquez got such a fluke win over Brock and has never shown anything real in any of his fights. Junior looks like the real deal though and could be holding that strap for a while.
Posted By: Guest#5358 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 03:24 PM
The rating was a 3.1 with 5.7 million viewers. Not exactly shitty considering there was ONE MINUTE of fighting in the show. That said, the Guida fight definitely should've made the air.
Posted By: Guest#0725 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 03:37 PM
I think the overall rating would've been better had the Guida fight made the air as that would've gotten the audience even more pumped for a title fight. Do that instead of the extra promos and hype. But this will hopefully be a learning process and experience for UFC and Fox.
Also where did the 3.1 rating, 5.7 million viewers figure come from? The initial figures were lower. Have they already gone up?
Posted By: Jeffrey (Registered) on November 13, 2011 at 04:10 PM
Such a let down, they really should have shown the Guida-Henderson fight on Fox to promote the UFC.

THEY DID YOU DUMBASS!!!!
Maybe you should have watched it instead
of bullshitting that you did!!
Posted By: Deano (Guest) on November 12, 2011 at 10:33 PM
NO THEY DIDN'T, YOU FUCK-TARD!
If you realized that not all markets got more of the card, you would've known that!

No, I think those kids would've preferred the Shamrock/Severn snore-fest Super Fight...
Posted By: Guest#9951 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 06:59 PM
People give Dana and Joe Silva too much credit for being geniuses and all that but really morons. How else is a fight between these two HWs gonna finish? Oh yeah a five round Cain wrestling clinic.
Also that TapOut ad with the two little mohawked mexicans who will be in juvi in a year or two, not the message you want to send on network tv.
Posted By: Diavo (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 06:55 AM
Yeah, and don't forget the ESPN special where they were vehement against children doing MMA until they're older (and with good reason, it turned into almost a form of pit-fighting, as opposed to anything like Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Boxing, or Karate competitions).
Not a good message to send off to the audience.

Oh...That wasn't a fluke by ANY stretch of the imagination.
I know all the Lesnar fans take this side as it reserves to their GLORIOUS fighter, but Lesnar gassed the crap out of himself half-way through the round (thinking that he was going to bulldoze right through Cain).
Cain showed a tremendous amount of heart, he stuck it out, then proceeded to beat the TAR out of Lesnar for a good 2+ minutes of what was left of that round (including TWO take downs on Lesnar).
The fact is that the JDS punch wasn't a clean punch, it was a punch behind Cain's ear. That shot knocks the crap out of your equilibrium, and that's what put Cain down.
If you were a fight fan, you would've known that.
But on a side note Marquez got ROBBED last night, and Pac-Man is looking more, and more, human to Mayweather. Marquez really out-classed him with his game plan, had Pac-Man flustered (which was the first in a WHILE), and had he SHOULD'VE won that fight!
Oh well, hopefully Mayweather stops being a bitch and takes the fight with Pacquiao sometime in the near future.

Yes, they got 5.7 million viewers but none of them knew the fight would only be 1 minute long. You're making it sound as if they announced the length of the fight at the beginning of the broadcast. UFC knew they were going to lose a ton of money by airing this on free tv, not PPV, but I doubt anyone watching who was not into UFC before this is going to rush and order the next $50 PPV if this fight was only 1 minute long. Let's face it, the UFC and WWE will not be around 6 months from now.
Posted By: Guest#1050 (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 09:05 PM
Since they had it slotted until 10:30, they should've shown a replay of the Guida-Henderson fight.
Posted By: Charles (Guest) on November 13, 2011 at 11:58 PM
They should have called this event "Commercials on Fox". I get that commercials pay the bill for free fights, but this was ridiculous. Especially after the fight was over. 90 seconds of analysis, 4 minutes of commerical. Another 90 seconds of analysis, then more commercials. I'm PVRing the next one and watching ona delay. That was stupid (and exactly why I don't mind paying $50 for a PPV).
Posted By: Chico Whoretiz (Guest) on November 14, 2011 at 12:40 PM
FYI, this was the highest rated UFC and MMA broadcast of all time.
