411's UFC Fight Night 40 Report 5.10.14
Posted by Robert Winfree on 05.11.2014

Hey everyone, I'm Robert Winfree and I'm happy to be providing you live coverage here. Hopefully this event breaks the recent trend of events being good only if Larry Csonka is covering them. If you've not yet checked out the Radulich in Broadcasting network, I encourage you to do so, even if your only interest is the 411 Ground and Pound radio show which goes live ever Sunday at 8pm eastern.

An early happy Mother's Day to all the mom's out there. To everyone else, there's still time, find a gift, a card, make a nice gesture, do something. Without our mother's we quite literally wouldn't be here.

Online Pop Culture Radio at Blog Talk Radio with Mark Radulich on BlogTalkRadio

We're kicking things off on UFC Fight Pass, and this is likely the portion where you need live coverage since no one has it. Kenny Florian and Jon Anik have commentary for the evening, and welcome us all to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Welterweight Bout: Albert Tumenov (170.5 lbs) vs. Anthony Lapsley (171 lbs.)

Lapsley had a hard time making weight yesterday, he missed his first attempt and we'll see if that plays tonight. Tumenov's nickname is "Einstein".

ROUND ONE: Touch of the gloves to start things out. Lapsley is fighting southpaw. Takedown from Lapsley is stuffed. More circling, Lapsley lands a body kick but Tumenov lands a counter hook that drops Lapsley. Lapsley regains his feet quickly but was tagged hard there. Tumenov misses a head kick, but just barely. Tumenov back to slowly moving Lapsley into the cage, he lands a huge counter left hook that drops and finishes Lapsley.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Albert Tumenov via KO at 3:56 of Round 1

No interview for Tumenov, I assume because there isn't a translator because otherwise that's a missed opportunity.

Florian and Anik do a quick breakdown of the main event to hype the main card.

Lightweight Bout: Ben Wall (155 lbs.) vs. Justin Salas (155.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Salas is fighting southpaw. Salas lands a straight left to the body, then tries to shoot, Wall defends it. They clinch up and Wall lands a knee to the body, Salas lands one of his own, then a big right hand drops Wall. A couple shots on the ground finishes the fight.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Justin Salas via KO at 2:41 Round 1

They're being liberal with declaring full KO's tonight. Anik is in the cage with Salas. Salas says his strategy was to use the takedowns to feel out his opponents or get them to drop their hands to defend it to land the punches. Salas says this fight goes out to his paternal grandparents and he promised to live his life to the fullest for those who are no longer here. Salas says this was his best performance and feels blessed.

Heidi Androl is on my screen talking about the main event. Not sure this is a good thing.

Due to two back to back finishes we've got more time to kill, so Androl is back and talking about the co-main event.

This next fight should be on television, not Fight Pass, just my opinion.

Manny scrambles to his knees against the fence again, and again Lentz starts throwing knees. Manny turns into him but they're still against the fence, Manny landing elbows to the head as Lentz is trying to ground him. Lentz knees the body and can't quite finish a sweep to end the round.
