With a little over 24 hours before UFC 73, we go All Access with Sean Sherk!
Rachelle Leah is in Minnesota for All Access with Sean Sherk. She says this will be a different All Access as Sherk trains like a maniac. We see Sherk and his kids as the show begins.
Sherk is the Lightweight Champion and has been a fighter for 8-years and is the 2nd ever-lightweight champion in the UFC. We meet the Sherk family and we begin with him starting the day with the kids and eating. We see his gigantic supplement basket, 22 in total. He eats baby food sweet potatoes for energy. He goes to an organic grocery store. by his gym for food.
We head to the gym for grappling. Sherk has trained under Greg Nelson at the Minnesota MMA Academy since 1994. He goes through his grappling, 45-minutes of grappling, 9-rounds, with fresh guys every round. Now 5, 5-minute rounds of kicking and knees, He does this 5 times a week, so everything is crisp. Nelson says he is very motivated and easy to train. He never wants to get tired. Nelson says he is very intense all around and they custom the workouts for his opponent.
Now onto pure conditioning, he flips tires, hits shit with sledgehammers and lots of crazy stuff He does this twice a week. 1-minute each of tire flips, cable crawls, chop station, bear crawl and rope pulls. The tire is 250lbs. Sherk is a freaking machine. His goal is a heart rate of 185. I am thinking I made a bad pick with Franca now, oh well. He has multiple rounds and repeats things and it is really impressive. I don't see this man gassing at all. Rachelle says it is insane what she saw and Sherk isn't tired at all.
Sherk is a hero in Minnesota and signs autographs and does a radio appearance He is a good ambassador for the sport and comes off very well in his appearance. Back to training and his trainer puts him over as very disciplined. We see his diet, it doesn't all taste good but it is good for him. He eats clean and trains hard.
We move onto weight training for strength and power. 4-times a week he does this. Strength is good but the endurance has to be there. It is all just another day for him. He hates to lose so he trains hard to make sure he wins.
Now he runs and trains up this insane stair case, 16 fights, 13 steps a flight and he does this numerous times, in comparison to 16 stories. 42-seconds to the top. Damn. Some trips he walks with dumbbells and then up the hill climbing, no grips, hands and feet. He is a beast.
Off to the organic Grocery store. He does the majority of his shopping here, his body is a machine and this is the proper fuel and eats most of it raw. He eats fish and BISON!
Now off for a break with the family. He loves his kids, both under 3 years old. His goals are to be the best 155 fighter and best dad he can be, someone who makes an impact is all walks of life. He bought his house 8-years ago, and when he lost to Hughes he promised the only thing to go on his mantle would be a UFC belt and he did that. 26-years of work all for that.
