The Ultimate Fighter 6: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra
Episode 9

Previously:
Team Serra went 6-2 in preliminary fights, allowing Serra to pick the quarterfinal fights.

Opening Video

We recap last weeks fight that saw Jon catch Tommy with an early punch. He followed that up by taking him down, getting his back, and going for a rear naked choke. After failing to finish, Tommy got top position and pounded him out the rest of the round.

In round two, Tommy took Jon down and pounded on him for five minutes on his way to a unanimous decision victory.

At a team meeting, Matt Serra asks his guys if it's ok if he matches Mac vs. Tommy. Team Serra doesn't really like this idea as they want to take out Team Hughes on their own.

Dana White sits down with Matt Serra to discuss the match ups. Serra says that he wants to match up Tommy vs. Mac and Dana isn't against it.

The fighters are called in and asked who they want to fight. John really wants to fight Mac and Serra doesn't mind putting them against each other. George is the consensus best fighter in the house.

Hughes says that if Serra matches Tommy vs. Mac, HE WOULD THROW A FIT! DO IT SERRA! How many times did Hughes go on suicide watch during filming?

Quarterfinal Fights:

*Mac vs. John
*Matt vs. Troy
*George vs. Richie
*Ben vs. Tommy

Hughes had a big sigh of relief when it was announced that Mac was facing John.

Dana says that since there are two Team Serra vs. Team Serra fights, Matt Serra has to pick two of his fighters to go to Hughes team to train with him the week before the fight. Matt Serra is PISSED!

Serra talks to Dana about having to give up two of his team members. Dana says that it's a great opportunity for two guys to train with Hughes and Serra. Serra says that none of his guys want to train with Hughes because Hughes sucks as a trainer. Serra says that they'll flip a coin to see who trains with Hughes because he's not going to force anyone to train with Hughes.

Hughes laughs about the whole thing as he just likes seeing Serra pissed off.

At Team Hughes training session, Mac works on his all around game and says that the only thing John has on him is size. Mac is very confident about this match up.

At the house, Mac is very grumping and it's pissing off the other guys in the house. Mac criticizes everything that everyone does. Mac knows what he's doing but doesn't seem to make an effort to stop.

Mac orders a bird feeder so he can sit by the pool to see if any hummingbirds come. No hummingbirds come and Mac blames it on his attitude, saying no animals want to be around him while he's being negative.

Jon moves the birdfeeder to a different light pole in order to piss off Mac. Mac knows someone from Team Serra moved it and then goes on a profanity laced rant about moving his bird feeder. He blames George.

At Team Serra training, John works on his stand up and transitions. Serra feels that John can takedown Mac and then work his ground and pound.

At Team Hughes training, Mac says he's sick of training, citing his lack of good sparring partners. They show him sparring with Billy and basically just using Billy as a human punching bag.

That night, Blake and Mac talk to each other and Blake tells Mac to make the most of this experience and be more positive. Mac says he's going to try and change his ways.

Mac wrote himself a note on the wall that tells him to be nice to Blake and be positive. We get clips of Mac and Blake being best friends.

Team Serra is still pissed that two of them have to go to Team Hughes and nobody wants to join Matt Hughes as they think he's a bad coach.

John weighs in at 170 lbs. and Mac weighs in at 169 lbs. Serra thinks John will use his strength, Hughes thinks Mac is just a better all around fighter.

Dana asks Serra what he wants to do with his team and Serra tells him to flip a coin as he's not going to pick one of his guys to leave.

Hughes comes over and asks Serra if he wants to pick the guys and Serra tells him no. Hughes was going to pick Richie and Troy, the two weak links, to be on his team.

They flip the coin twice and Richie and Matt are picked to go to Team Hughes. Richie and Matt wants to talk to Matt Hughes about the whole situation. Richie just wants to make sure Hughes is looking out for their best interest and that it's not going to make things awkward. Hughes finds the whole thing unprofessional and says he's not here to make friends. Hughes once again comes off as a prick.

John wanted to fight Mac because he feels that Mac is the best guy in the house.

Mac Danzig (Team Hughes) vs. John Kolosci (Team Serra)

Round 1: Body kick by John to start. They go into a clinch and Mac catches him with two knees that seem to stun John. Mac gets in half guard but John gets back up to his feet. John tries a takedown but Mac sprawls. John keeps a hold of Mac's leg but eats punches and elbows as he fails to get the takedown. The ref stops the fight to check the cut on John's face. He's good to continue. As the fight resumes, John wants again goes for a takedown that is failed. Mac ends up getting John's back. Mac locks in a rear naked choke, forcing John to tap.

Winner – Mac Danzig by Submission in Round 1

Mac thoughts John looked nervous. Dana says that John got beat up everywhere that he took the fight. Dana was very impressed with Mac. "I just got my ass kicked," says John.

In the locker room, Mac makes a speech about how he wouldn't want to be on another team.

In the closing clip, we see that a hummingbird has indeed found the bird feeder.

End Show

Next Episode: Hughes vs. Serra…..IN A BOWLING CONTEST! Plus two fights.

Show Thoughts: Mac looks to be on another level right now. He dominated John en route to a first round victory and it looks as if he's not stopping anytime soon. As with previous seasons of this show, I hate when guys are essentially forced to switch teams. It's basically rewarding the losers and if I were the guys on Team Serra, I wouldn't want to train with Hughes either.

Make sure to check out the UFC 78: Validation roundtable whenever it goes up as it not only features predictions from the staff but from a SPECIAL GUEST as well.
