SHOWXC 3.21.08~!
-Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros are out hosts for the evening.
-We get a video package for Mark Oshiro vs. Chris Cariaso.
FEATHERWEIGHT BOUT - Mark Oshiro (9-1) vs. Chris Cariaso (6-0):
ROUND ONE: The official is Marcus Rosales. And we're underway. Oshiro works leg kicks to begin, Cariaso fires back with the high head kick and they clinch, to the cage and knees by Oshiro. Cariaso fires back with a knee of his own, they work for position and Cariaso gets the takedown and is in full mount. Cariaso has the back, sinks the hooks in and lands some good shots. Oshiro is able to work to a crouching position as Cariaso works some knees and shots to the head. Oshiro makes it to his feet, they work the clinch and then out of nowhere Oshiro gets a HUGE right hook and Cariaso is down! Oshiro starts to pummel him and the ref stops the bout. Good stoppage there.
-THE RESULT: Mark Oshiro via RD1 (2:38) KO
Stephen Quadros is with Mark Oshiro. Oshiro says he trained hard for situations like getting his back taken. He knew he could get out. When he got the right he just jumped on him to make sure it was over.
-We get a video package for the March 29th Strikeforce Show, featuring Frank Shamrock vs. Cung Le.
-Now we get a video package for the next bout, which is Shane Del Rosario vs. Analu Brash
HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT - Shane Del Rosario (2-0) vs. Analu Brash (1-1):
ROUND ONE: The official is Herb Dean. Leg kicks by Del Rosario to begin. A high kick lands as well, but Brash bull rushes him into the cage and they clinch. Brash with a good straight right, Del Rosario with a cut kick that takes Brash down and he now lands a few shots from the top, drops down into the closed guard of Brash. Del Rosario postures up, gets a left and another. Brash is trying to control Del Rosario's arms, but is taking clean shots to the head and face. Del Rosario to his feet and lands more shots and is in control. Del Rosario works Brash against the cage, short elbow strikes and then just connecting at will. Del Rosario keeps landing as Dean watches on, Brash is just covering and not doing a damn thing. Herb Dean finally stops the fight.
-THE RESULT: Shane Del Rosario via RD1 (3:18) TKO
Stephen Quadros is with Del Rosario. Quadros jokes about him being a ground fighter now. Del Rosario likes his leg kick, like a jab, and when he went down he just kept on him. He just kept hitting him until he won. That'll work.
-We get a video package for Aaron Rosa vs. Jaime Fletcher.
LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT - Aaron Rosa (10-1) vs. Jaime Fletcher (8-3):
ROUND ONE: The official is Cecil Peoples. They dance a bit, and Fletcher in first with a few leg kicks. Fletcher moving side-to-side and then gets a superman style shot. He shoots in, against the cage they go and Fletcher works a few knee shots. Rosa escapes the clinch, they trade shots center cage and then Fletcher back with the leg kicks. Rosa with a leg kick, but Fletcher lands a few more and he is really working the lead leg of Rosa. Rosa gets a great combo and then a grazing roundhouse kick. Fletcher slips off of a high kick shot, but gets back to his feet. Fletcher tried to shoot in, stuffed and they clinch against the cage. Fletcher with body shots, while Rosa gets knee shots to the body of Fletcher. Peoples separates them, I don't know why because they were working and they return center ring. Back to the clinch, against the cage and knees by Fletcher. They trade body shots, knees and the round will end.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Lots of work in the round, and for the most part very even. But the work in the initial minutes by Fletcher, which saw him completely control with the leg kicks and continually back off Rosa will be enough to get him the round 10-9.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins with Fletcher working for the leg kicks off of a combo try. Fletcher shoots off of a miss by Rosa, tries the single leg and they go down together, but pop right back up. Rosa catches Fletcher on the way in, gets a good flurry but Fletcher escapes. Rosa is moving a bit more this round and trying to use his reach more. Both connect with jabs, more leg kicks by Fletcher but Rosa gets a good punch/kick combo and they clinch and go to the cage again. They shove off, solid combo by Rosa and then another off of a body shot set up. Rosa with another good combo, but misses a high kick. Fletcher gets a solid body shot, they trade body kicks and then Fletcher goes back to the leg kicks. Fletcher slips again but Rosa didn't jump on him. Rosa goes for the high kick again, but doesn't get it. Rosa in with a good combo, but Fletcher in with a superman punch and some body shots as the round ends.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Both men are very tired right now. Rosa decided not to be as passive this round and it paid off as he looked much better and did more damage. Fletcher is consistent, but I felt that Rosa took the 2nd round and we're locked up at 19-19.
ROUND THREE: Final round begins, Fletcher with some combo shots, throws and catches Rosa and drops him with an great overhand right! Fletcher in the closed guard of Rosa, has him worked against the cage and Rosa tries to hold on, and they get stood up. They throw wildly off the stand up, clinch now and Rosa now looks for a takedown, but Fletcher is defending very well. Knees by Fletcher, Rosa takes him down now and tries to work some short elbows. Fletcher is neutralizing Rosa enough to get a stand up, they do and start to throw wildly again. They clinch against the cage, and then shove off. Both guys are gassed and are throwing sloppy shots and the round ends.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Fletcher gets the big knockdown early in the round, and that set the tone. Rosa did get a takedown, but did little else. Fletcher takes this round as well 10-9, and the fight 29-28. I could see it going 30-27 though.
-THE RESULT: Jaime Fletcher via unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27, 29-28
Stephen Quadros is with Jaime Fletcher. Fletcher puts over Rosa as a good fighter. He says he is tough and decided that he wanted to work the body. He'll fight at 185 or 205, he doesn't care.
-We get a video package for Marlon Mathias vs. Conor Heun.
LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT - Marlon Mathias (5-1) vs. Conor Heun (6-2):
ROUND ONE: The official is Marcus Rosales. Mathias charges Heun and unloads crazy style! Heun finally gets a clinch against the cage, works some shoulder shrugs and then a high knee. They trade knees, Heun looking for a takedown but Mathias with a hammer fist and then uppercut. Back to the cage, but Mathias escapes and they go back center. He charges in, hits a great knee off of a jab and then backs off. Heun with a body kick, another Mathias catches a kick and gets a straight left. They trade standing, but Heun gets a takedown. He's in the guard, stands and then works for back control. Heun with rights and short elbow shots to Mathias. Mathias s trapped against the cage and the short elbows look to be doing good damage, bad camera angle though. Heun looks to have a choke, but Mathias escapes to the guard and now Heun works the rubber guard as the round ends.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Hell of a round, best on the show thus far. Mathias was explosive at times, but Heun had the good takedown and control later on and I will give him the round 10-9, but it was very close.
ROUND TWO: Mathias out with a combo to start the round, and then gets a great trip takedown. Heun working the rubber guard, lots of jockeying for position, Heun staying active and not allowing Mathias to do any damage. They get stood up, Mathias catches a kick and takes Heun down. He gets right back up, a great left by Mathias rocks Heun, but Heun gets a takedown to stop that. Heun works Mathias to the cage again and he works the elbows again. He stands, drops some rights and short elbows. Heun with some body shots as well, more elbows are landing and Heun looks for a guillotine from the mount. Mathias escapes, but Heun stays in dominant position and rains down with shot after shot, gets top control and the round ends.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Another damn god round here. Mathias when he lands is doing tremendous damage, but Heun again was able to work the takedown and short elbows on Mathias. I go Heun 10-9, and 20-18 overall.
ROUND THREE: Finally round, Mathias gets the left again and he gets the takedown and side control. Heun works the rubber guard, but not much work and they get stood up. They trade shots, a good knee by Heun to the ribs of Mathias. Heun shoots, Mathias works to stay up and they go to the cage. Good counter by Mathias. Heun scoops the legs and lands shots, north south now and Heun looked for a kimura by Mathias escaped that. Heun catches a kick and takes Mathias down against the cage. Heun works for a darce choke, Mathias escapes but almost gets caught in a kimura, but Mathias slips out. Heun gets another takedown, Mathias is fading while Huen works more short elbows and tries to keep the dominant position as the round ends, which he does.
LARRY'S SCORECARD: Just a war as both guys gave everything they could. Mathias was done in this round as Heun was able to get the takedowns and Mathias would turtle up at times, and really offered nothing else but survival. I have it Heun 30-27.
-THE RESULT: Conor Heun via decision 30-27 across the cards
Stephen Quadros is with Conor Heun. He loves everyone, even if the crowd isn't happy. They are not happy at all. Heun says he got his jaw broke in the first round, and that Mathias hits very hard.
-We get a video package for the Malaipet vs. Thomas Denny bout.
LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT - Malaipet (3-1) vs. Thomas Denny (25-16):
ROUND ONE: The official is Herb Dean. Denny out fast and shoots in for the takedown. Down they go, Denny works for side, gets the back and rolls over in a sweet fashion and looks for the choke. Denny almost has the choke, , he does now and Malaipet is working, turns his head and manages to escape. Wow. Denny in the mount, scoots Malaipet towards the cage, tried another choke but now works the ground and pound. Short elbows by Denny are connecting at will and Malaipet is not defending them at all. Denny just landing elbow after elbow as Malaipet has no clue how to escape the situation. Some hammer fists by Denny, rights and lefts and out of nowhere Malaipet escapes, and then he lands THREE illegal elbows to the back of the head as we get a timeout so the doctor can check on Denny.
Denny has no clue what happened, and Herb Dean has apparently told the doctor that Denny DOES NOT get the 5-minute injury clock, but that the doctor will decide if he can continue. What's up with that? Denny tells the doctor that he doesn't think he can continue, and the fight is over.
-THE RESULT: Thomas Denny via Disqualification
Stephen Quadros is with Denny. Denny apologizes, and says he would fight all night he dominated, but Malaipet broke the rules. He says Malaipet is a great fighter, but says he cannot continue after taking the illegal shots. He does want a rematch.
Malaipet is in now. He says he is ok, and he wasn't going to tap out. About the elbows he thinks that they were ok. Um…maybe know the rules dude. Malaipet just rambles incoherently about fighting being his job.
-Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros wrap up the show.
