Posted by John Curry on 07.20.2008

Affliction: BANNED~!

Paul Buentello defeats Gary Goodridge via unanimous decision

Cable's acting up so I missed some of the fight, but Buentello controlled this fight most of the way and earned this victory.

Vitor Belfort vs. Terry Martin

Round one: Martin starts out with a few jabs. Belfort nails him with a kick. Martin goes for a single, but gets nothing and they clinch against the ropes. Belfort with a knee and a solid left. Martin stuns him with a left of his own. They exchange punches for a bit then Belfort peppers in a few jabs. Martin rushes in and misses, but Belfort doesn't'. Martin ends the round with a glancing blow.

10-9 round for Martin for pressing the action.

Round two: Nice left hook from Martin but Belfort comes back with a counter jab. Belfort with a great body kick but Martin retaliates with a body shot. To the ground the go for a few minutes. Belfort takes it back standing and lands some blows on the way up. Straight right from Belfort. A fantastic flying knee puts Martin down and right uppercut/left overhand puts Martin out cold.

Winner by KO - Vitor Belfort

Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Negao

Round 2

We pick up the action with Lindland pinning Negao down in the corner. Lindland is dropping elbows and strikes into Negao 's full guard. Negao is bleeding from what appears to be his right eye. Lindland is just dominating Negao on the ground right now. Ouch big hammer fist. Negao tries to stand up but Lindland pushes him back down. Lindland is just controlling Negao right now. Closer camera angle reveals Negao to be bleeding from his mouth. Negao leans out of the ring now as the crowd boos him. The ref pulls Negao back in and Lindland immediately begins dropping more hammer fists. The ref stops the fight to warn Lindland about staring before being told to resume. More hammer fists from Lindland and the bell rings. They show a round recap and Lindland was dominating most of that round. 10-9 Lindland.

Round 3 The come out swinging. Both men look tired now. Tie ups and take down defenses by both men. Stomach kick by Lindland and Negao walks it off. Both guys are trading punches and kicks with very little landing. Lindland tries to take down Negao, which leads to a weak guillotine by Negao. Lindland stands back up and they are throwing again. More standing punches being thrown by both fighters with Lindland landing the most but not really effecting Negao at all. Negao hits Lindland with an elbow punch and they lock up. Back to more standup. Lindland attempts a takedown. Stuffed by Negao! Strong Kick to the ribs by Negao. Takedown attempt by Lindland and they are through the ropes. Negao catching his breath. The crowd boo's. Knee to the face of Negao and he is stunned but Lindland doesn't go after him. Negao backs up into the ropes. Lindland lays some punches on. Takedown attempt by Lindland and almost through the ropes. Back to standing. Lindland backs off and takes a breather. Bell rings. Not exactly a great round for either fighter. Could go either way but I'll give it to Lindland 10-9.

On to the Judges we go.

Official Decision

30-26, 30-27, 30-27 for MATT "The Law" LINDLAND.

Big John is with Matt Lindland. Bad sound problems. Lindland says his time off affected his conditioning. They discuss the first round. Thanks the sponsors, says the young guys are after him.

Next up.......

Renato Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead.

Whitehead comes down to the ring. Looking fit and tight compared to the last time I saw him fight. They say he weighs 206.

Babalu comes to the cage sporting his own Affliction shirt. Guys forgot his mouthpiece so we have a couple second delay for this fight.

MICHAEL BUFFER IS YOUR ANNOUNCER!!!! Introductions for both guys. For those who are interested the ring just says Affliction in the center and WAMMA and 2 other sponsors.

Whitehead pulls out and he is back in mount. Babalu almost gets an arm bar but Whithead pulls out. The ref stands them up. Clinch by both fighters with punches being traded. Right hook by Whitehead and Babalu swings the strongest spinning backfist I've seen and misses. back to corner clinching with knees being exchanged. whitehead tries to drop down but Babalu has dominant position on Whitehead and delivers some hard knees. Bell rings. Round over.

10-9 Babalu for doing the most on his feet and the ground.

Round 3

Both fighters know they have to win this round to win. Punches and kicks exchanged. Takedown attempt by Babalu stuffed. Whitehead tries to takedown Babalu and ends up in the guillotine choke. It's in tight. Out of the ring they go and the ref stands them back up. Lucky for Whitehead as that choke was in tight. Whitehead tries a takedown again.....and back out of the ring again. These ropes are too damn loose. This is the 2nd time in this fight the ropes have moved way too easily. The fans boo. They are not liking this rope thing. Nice. Babalu pulls Whithead to the ground he has a guillotine on tight....Whitehead pulls out of it. Babalu ha s Whiteheads arm trapped in an arm triangle. Whitehead shifts out of it into Babalu's guard. Ref reset out of the corner again. Nike knee by Babalu an into the ropes with the clinch. Whitehead shifts out of it. The crowd is chanting Babalu. Nice straight right by Babalu and he struts and goes into a takedown. Whitehead has his arm wrapped around the rope to prevent the takedown and Babalu throws some knees. Round ends and we get a shot of THE UNDERTAKER IN THE CROWD!

411---10-9 and your winner Renalto "Babalu" Sobal.

Hominick keeps grabbing at his rib area quickly. Young is just on defense now slapping Hominick's punches away. Hominick lands a straight right hand. STRONG shot to the gut by Young and Hominick has to back off. Young doesn't go after him they kind of back off one another. Bell rings. Not much for either guy so I'll go 10-9 Hominick.

Dominant ass whooping is right. Ex UFC Champ? Fedor will eat you alive like so much ice cream.

I think i just peed a little, Fedor just mauled Sylvia and someone call SVU cause that was rape of the highest degree.

Posted By: Brad (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 01:14 AM

I won't lie I had doubted the greatest of Fedor and thought he was overrated as it seemed for a while he wasn't taking many fights unless they were easy wins. But he obliterated a respectable fighter in Sylvia like he was nothing. I thought Fedor was afraid of UFC, but I think UFC may be afraid of Fedor. He might destroy all their precious talent.

OMG! I almost cried...I have been watching Fedor for years now and knew he would beat Sylvia but GOOD GAWD!! I thought he would at least make it through one round.

Posted By: Mikeylikesit (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 01:46 AM

The only way to top that is the fabled Randy-Fedor fight, which will hopefully happen later this year. Put Arlovski and Barnett on the ticket and you have another classic show with 4 of the worlds top heavyweights.

Posted By: Wow (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 01:55 AM

Where are all the Fedor doubters now ?

Nobody has made short work of Tim in his entire career- let alone more or less knock the shit out of him and than choke his ass out !

Posted By: Simplely PUT (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 02:14 AM

Man I was there and Fedor owns any, and I mean any, fighter in the world. Him vs Arlovski would be killer for the next event. Speaking of which, Arlovkski was badass and really ripped up rothwell. There is no way Dana White can sell anyone that Fedor isnt the real deal anymore.

Posted By: Jui (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 02:42 AM

Ok. I did doubt if the Last Emperor still had it after fighting nothing but cans for two years, but apparently he still has it. In spades. Just ask Tim Sylvia.

Posted By: woody (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 03:15 AM

Affliction still has a long way to go to make a worthwhile pay-per veiw Except for the last two fights it was boring and poorly put together. One would expect more when triing to go up against a power house like the UFC. Fedor fight was awsome but the production value overall was horrible.

Posted By: Evilhomer (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 03:55 AM

"fedor is like mike tyson post prison" "I hate sylvia but want him to own fedor"

FEDOR IS the GREATEST FIGHTER in HISTORY the BEST POUND for POUND FIGHTER in THE WORLD and NOBODY can beat HIM

NO ONE

He ass raped Sylvia the way NOBODY could before .

Not Captain A not Arlovski Not Mir Not Big Nog

FEDOR >>>>> MMA and UFC

Oh it's REAL It's DAMN REAL !!!!!

Posted By: Van Daminator (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 07:51 AM

Fedor was awsome and you will never see him in UFC, they dont let their fighters fight in other organisations or touneis this is why they dont have all of the best fighters in the world. If they would have let fighters like Fedor fight in sambo championships, pride, IFL ect. you would have seen him years ago whoopin ass in UFC. Great stuff Affliction I hope it keeps comming because I'm sick of watching these so called TUF fighters get all of the undercard fights in UFC when most of them wouldn't even make it at my local gym.

Posted By: pierrehk (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 08:55 AM

Tim Sylvia's Overrated. Yeah he's a good fighter, but nothing special. Fedor's true test will be against Randy assuming Randy's got anything in the tank.

On a side note, I find it funny how the UFC thinks they have to run specials against other MMA shows, but judging by this show and Elite XC Dana doesn't have very much to worry about.

Posted By: Joe (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 09:03 AM

Great night for MMA. I watched both cards at Champs with a great crowd. Even people just there on the random enjoyed it. SIDE NOTE: How incredible was it to see DON JOHNSON in the HOUSE?!?!

Could someone tell Herb Dean to get his pants hemmed?

Posted By: Heather G (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 09:21 AM

Wow! I thought Fedor would win, but no way I thought he'd win like that. Fedor was incredible.

Affliction on the other hand needs to put some work together on ther shows, and put better match ups together.

Posted By: KSti (Registered)  on July 20, 2008 at 10:12 AM

ya, i thought it would at least go several minutes. i wonder if fighting in a cage would change Silvia/PM's approach.
i'd like to see Fedor-Couture next with Arlovsky-Barnett on the card.
down the line Fedor-Arlovsky. but Fedor-Barnett is less thrilling.

if Liddell jumps up to heavyweight -bad idea- put him in with one if thedozens of heavies hes called out or all of them. you know, just to make him happy.

Posted By: there_was_no_doubt (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 10:24 AM

Until Fedor beats Kimbo slice he's a f-ing hack fighter.

Stupid Timmy stinks anyways- everyone agrees with that...

Fedor has to beat Kimbo to be the number one HW in he world.

Posted By: The Spook (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 12:19 PM

You cant really blame them for being boring fights. Look at the last UFC PPV, it only had 1 match worthwhile. As far as production, what are you comparing it to? The UFC? More like PRIDE, the UFC has always had terrible production values despite having buttloads of cash. How much you wanna bet they step it up now that they got a someone to compete with.

Posted By: Diau (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Tim Sylvia is a big bitch!!!

Posted By: Guest#6657 (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 02:37 PM

Funny how all of a sudden Big Tim is "overrated" and Fedor has "not been tested" yet .

Yeah you're right, owning Big Nog and Mark Hunt TWICE and the best Cro cop ever once and giving Sylvia his biggest loss EVER is not enough .

It's never "enough" when it comes to doubt the very FACT than FEDOR IS and ALWAYS will BE the BEST POUND for POUND Fighter in M M A History

Posted By: Mr Freeze (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 02:55 PM

Pretty damn awesome how a "freakshow" like Hong Man Choi put up a much better fight than the two time UFC champ Tim Sylvia. Definitely think now that Choi should be in the top ten. Haha...

Anyway, I didn't think Fedor would humiliate him so quickly...thought he'd play around with him for a round like he did Mark Coleman. Can't wait to see Randy Couture get mauled...

Posted By: Pizza Delivery Jones (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 03:46 PM

"Fedor has to beat Kimbo to be the number one HW in the world." Oh please someone tell me that comment is a joke. Kimbo almost got beat by a guy that was 2-6 in the last 2 years. Kimbo is a joke and a sideshow, definitely not a elite heavyweight. He can barely beat tomatoes let alone a credible heavyweight.

Posted By: Rob391 (Guest)  on July 20, 2008 at 04:05 PM

I'd like to see Brock Get maybe 3 more fights in him before taking on Fedor. If Brock can win 4 straight and fix his submission, I think he can challenge Fedor. Big task but he is faster than Sylvia and hits hard and he is a wrestler. His submission defense needs a lot of work but he gets on a roll and stays motivated there is no reason he can't learn enough not to get submitted like Sylvia

Posted By: John Emms (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 02:51 PM

open question: has anyone ever noticed that Arlovski is announced as 7&3 for BOTH the Cabbage fight AND the first fight against Tim? How is this possible?
