EliteXC Champions of the Cage

-Jay Glazer is our host and breaks down the fights that we'll see.

  • FROM ELITE XC's DESTINY SHOW: LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT - Charles "KRAZY HORSE" Bennett vs. K.J. Noons

-ROUND ONE: : Here we go. They circle and Bennett misses a big shot. Bennett in for another shot and misses. Noons with a kick and Bennett back with a right. Bennett with a leg kick and smiles. Leg kick by Noons. Another. Bennett back with a leg kick and Noons answers right back. Bennett in with a right and Noons back with the leg kick. Bennett with a combo, a leg kick and Noons with a counter jab. Noons continues with the leg kicks. Good right by Noons and another. They clinch, rights by both and Noons gets away. Noons in, Bennett with a body shot and then catches him with a huge right and DROPS him. Bennett follows up with ground shots, and Herb Dean stops the fight.

-The Result: Charles "KRAZY HORSE" Bennett via RD1 (3:43) TKO

I hate KRAZY HORSE and have no use for him in MMA, but the post fight interview with his saying, "AWWWWW Shit, I knocked him out" and "STOP HORSE, STOP!" was hilarious. February of 2007 Noons was losing to this joke, he then rose to win the Lightweight Title in a division designed for Diaz, and well, we all know the rest.

  • From ELITE XC Saturday Night Fights II – Unfinished Business Report 7.26.08 - Lightweight Bout - Nick Diaz (17-7-1NC) vs. Thomas Denny (26-16):

ROUND ONE: The official is Josh Rosenthal. They talk shit at the stare down and get censored. Here we go. Denny out quickly, leg kicks by Denny, gets a takedown and lands a shot as Diaz gets to his feet. Right by Denny, leg kick and then a combo. Denny is boxing right now and getting clean shots. They clinch, gets a takedown, but Diaz goes for an arm lock. Denny escapes an arm bar, has the back of Diaz and gets hammer fists. To the feet, Diaz looks for a takedown but they go to the cage. Rights by Diaz land, Denny answers back and they trade. Shots by Diaz, good combo and a body kick by Denny. To the cage again, rights by Diaz and an elbow by Denny. They trade, Diaz lands good shots and rocks Denny a bit. Jabs by Diaz, elbows by Denny and then a knee. Superman punch by Denny, a left and some dirty boxing follows. Knees by both, Denny with another elbow and they back off. Diaz with a great jab backs off Denny. Diaz has him hurt, starts to land well and Denny answers back. They both throw a bit wildly and Diaz to the body. Elbow by Diaz, they keep throwing as the round ends to a huge ovation!

SCORECARD:: Awesome round there. Denny brought it to Diaz, but Diaz was able to rock him a few times and I think takes the round 10-9, but it was close and could go either way.

ROUND TWO: They begin where they left off, Diaz rocks Denny again with a right hook and then unloads. A left drops Denny, Diaz stands over him and lands three huge rights and then the fight is stopped.

THE RESULT: Nick Diaz via RD2 (0:30) TKO

I find it very interesting that they show a NOONS loss, followed by a DIAZ victory. With Diaz winning they should have showed it and should have allowed Diaz to openly challenge Noons for the title, which could have been huge leading into the next show. But they didn't want to come of as "too pro wrestling," Noons flaked and the promotion lost out on what could have been a money fight.

  • FROM ELITE XC UPRISING - CATCH WEIGHT BOUT (175lbs) - Jake Shields (18-4-1) vs. Renato "Charuto" Verissimo (8-4):

-ROUND ONE : The official is Mario Yamisaki. They come out and kicks by Shields to begin. Jabs by Verissimo, blocks a kick by Shields and takes him to the cage and then down. Shields to his feet already, they clinch and work against the cage. They exchange knees, Shields gets a leg trip and takedown. Close guard by Verissimo, body shots by Shields. Shields works him against the cage, and then continues to work body shots. Elbow by Shields, busy work by Verissimo as well. Shields lands some shots to the head and more to the body. More elbows by Shields, he works for side control and Verissimo tries a kimura and Shields escapes. Shields gets full mount and starts to get cleaner shots to the head, Shields rains down with rights and lefts and Verissimo just takes it. He is killing him with elbows as well and after what seemed like 30 unanswered shots Yamisaki stops the fight. Upon checking the replay it was more like 50 shots, a good bit were to the back of the head.

-The Result: Jake Shields via RD1 (4:00) TKO

  • From Elite XC Street Certified - HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT - Kimbo Slice (1-0) vs. Tank Abbott (9-13):

-The Fight: ROUND ONE: The official is Troy Waugh. Here we go kids! They come out and start throwing. Tank bull rushes Kimbo to the cage, they separate and start landing. Kimbo starts killing Tank, but they stop because Kimbo hit him in the back of the head. They stop it again then restart, Kimbo spit out his mouthpiece and tossed it out because HE HAS STREET CRED. They just throw, Kimbo drops Tank and but he is up again. Kimbo throws and drops Tank again! Tank is up and then is knocked down a third time and Tank is OUT. He dropped face first, Flair style. Damn.

-The Result: Kimbo Slice via RD1 (0:43) KO

Bad timing, as Glazer's into was praising the rise to fame of Kimbo, and saying that the sky is the limit. Oops.

  • From the StrikeForce-EliteXC: Shamrock vs. Baroni Show - Strikeforce Middleweight Title Bout – Frank Shamrock vs. Phil Baroni:

-ROUND ONE: : Leg kick by Shamrock as Baroni lands a right. They clinch, wild right by Baroni against the cage by Shamrock separates. To the ground as Shamrock misses a right, Baroni backs off and a body kick by Shamrock as Baroni gets a right. They trade rights, Shamrock DRPS Baroni and pounces on him looking for a guillotine, transitions to side and tries the choke but he can't get the back against the cage and they take a point from Shamrock for a shot to the back of the head. Baroni is a bit loopy here, and back to action they go. Big knee by Shamrock, buy Baroni gets the takedown. Lefts by Shamrock from the bottom, closed guard and Shamrock keeps landing punches. Baroni starts to land a bit, but Shamrock lands more from the bottom. They stand, jabs from both and Shamrock tags Baroni again, Baroni tries a single leg and Shamrock with hard body shots. Shamrock to side, lands more lefts and then a huge right. Baroni back to the feet, sweet jabs by Shamrock and a knee follows. Another right by Shamrock who is lading anything he wants. Another knee by Shamrock, he keeps working the knees and the backs off. Leg kick by Shamrock, more knees as Baroni gets some short rights. Wild combo by both misses, back to the jabs by Shamrock and then a five-punch combo by Shamrock lands. Baroni gets him down, but Shamrock again does more work from the bottom. The round ends and Baroni survives.

SCORECARD:: Shamrock lost the point early in the round, but I feel he clearly dominated standing and even while on his back. Takedowns are no good when you can't do anything with them. I have it 9-9 due to the point deduction, but one could argue 9-8 for Shamrock.

ROUND TWO: Round two begins and Baroni with an overhand right. More knees by Shamrock, but Baroni with good shots seems to have recovered from the first round. Left hook by Baroni, clinch and a body kick by Shamrock. Leg kick by Shamrock, but a great overhand right by Shamrock. Left hook, leg kick combo by Shamrock. Baroni lands a knee and a body shot, leg kicks by Shamrock and then a jab. They both land jabs, a hook by Baroni lands and then a jab. Leg kick by Shamrock, a right by Baroni rocks Shamrock and then another. Shamrock with a combo to come back, and Baroni is tired. Jab and a combo by Shamrock, he rocks Baroni. Shamrock looks for a guillotine now, transitions to a kimura and lands short lefts to Baroni. Shamrock has the back, gets the rear naked choke, he locks it in and Baroni fights. Lefts to Shamrock and Baroni goes out!

THE RESULT: Frank Shamrock via RD2 (4:00) Submission

This as a great, great fight, especially considering both guys were injured going into the fight.

THE 411: Another good episode here. The Shamrock vs. Baroni fight is worth catching the show by itself, but everything else is either solid to good as well. Try to catch the show if you can.
