411's The Ultimate Fighter 8 Report 11.19.08: Episode 10
Posted by Jeremy Lambert on 11.19.2008
It's the final fights in the first round and it features the most loving man in the house not named Nogueira. Plus the semi-final fights are set.
The Ultimate Fighter Season 8
Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir
Episode 10
Previously: Vinny, Phillipe, and Krzy won. John fights George tonight in the final first round fight.
Opening Video
We get a recap of Krzy vs. Kyle. "I think my sister could have caught Kyle in an armbar" says Junie.
Everyone in the house talks about John and his affection for hugging. That leads to a montage of hugs, which is awesome. John wants to bring energy to the house. He makes a drawing of FIRE THE CANNONS to bring more energy. George was a skinny white kid who got picked on until he learned to fight. We get highlights of George sparring. His hand gets caught in the cage and he injures his hand. He can't make a fist with his hand, which means he'll be fighting like Kevin "The Fire" Burns.
John gets his cereal in the morning and notices all the marshmallows in his Lucky Charms are gone. I don't know about you guys but the marshmallows are my favorite part and if they were missing from my Lucky Charms, I'd be pissed as well. "You can piss in his fruit, talk about his mom, but don't f*ck with his Lucky Charms." During sparring, John apologizes for punching a guy in the face. Nog believes everyone on this show as the heart of a champion. I demand a reality show with Nog and John. Could you imagine it? It would just be two guys who smile about everything. "Nog, we're out of hot water." "Is ok John, we'll take cold showers until the hot water comes back on." Make this happen SpikeTV.
George ices his hand to take the swelling down but it doesn't work too well. George can't do anything with his right hand so we'll see how a one armed man in an ass-kicking contest really does.
George weighs in at 155.5 and John weighs in at 153.5. Now we know John is WEC bound if he doesn't win this season. Nog comes over for dinner. I've never seen a coach spend so much time in the house. John and George talk about hugging before the fight starts instead of a glove touch. I wrote in a recent Cardio Freak that if someone tries to hug you in the middle of the fight, you should suplex them and then pound them out. I still believe that. Leave the hugging to after the fight.
Lightweight Fight: George Roop (Team Mir) vs. John Polakowski (Team Nogueira)
Round One Recap: They did, in fact, hug to start the fight. Close round. George spent most of the fight on top and had the back of John at one point but John turned into the guard and spent over a minute pounding on George. I'll give the round to George. Both corners tell their fighters they won the first round.
Round Two Recap: John got the better of him on the feet but George took it to the ground and dominate him for the majority of the round. He got his back and locked in a body triangle and tried to get a rear naked choke for the final minute or so of the round. I'll give it to George again.
Winner: George Roop by Decision
Mir said George did a good job throwing kicks to make up for only having one hand. Nog and Dana thought it should have gone to a third round. Mir is happy that his team won 5-3. Krzy rants on Nog and his team, saying that the whole family dinner thing meant nothing.
The guys get drunk and begin throwing eggs at Junie in the pool. Junie comes up stairs and slams a door. They do shots for peace. That's a good enough reason for me.
Dana meets with Nog, Mir, and the fighters about the semi-final fights. Ryan and Eliot want to fight each other. Krzy wants to fight Ryan. Vinny wants to fight Krzy. Phillipe wants to fight George. George wants to fight Nogueira and then Phillipe or Junie. Junie wants to fight Ryan and then says he wants to fight Efrain. Efrain wants to fight Junie.
Official fights:
Light Heavyweight: Ryan vs. Eliot and Krzy vs. Vinny
Lightweight: Phillipe vs. George and Junie vs. Efrain
Next Week: Semi-final fights: Eliot vs. Ryan and Phillipe vs. George.
Show Comments: Not much of note this week. The fight was good and the in-house stuff was limited. Nothing special but also nothing horrible. I still want to see a reality show with Nog and John.
