411's The Ultimate Fighter 8 Report 12.03.08: Episodes 11 and 12
Posted by Jeremy Lambert on 12.03.2008

The Ultimate Fighter Season 8
Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir
Episodes 11 & 12

Previously: Ryan, Eliot, George, and Phillipe won their quarter final fights. They do battle tonight.

Opening Video

Ryan weighs in at 206. Eliot weighs in at 205. Both coaches think their fighter is going to win. Highlights of Ryan training. He and Nog go real hard in training and Nog wears no head gear because he's a man. A throwaway shot of Frank Mir walking out of the locker room with no shirt on and his UFC 61 physique. Highlights of Eliot training.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Eliot Marshall vs. Ryan Bader

Round One Recap: Not much happened in this round. Eliot seemed to get the better of the stand up but Ryan took him down and held him there for a good two minutes or so. 10-9 Ryan.

Round Two Recap: Ryan took him down, landed short elbows, and pretty much held him down for 4:30 of the round. 10-9 Ryan.

Round Three Recap: Ryan held the cage to prevent a knee bar but wasn't docked a point. Outside of that moment, the rest of the round was Ryan holding down Eliot again. 10-9 Ryan. Very boring fight and Ryan proved nothing except that he's a good wrestler who can hold guys down.

Winner – Ryan Bader by Unanimous Decision

Phillipe and George weigh in at 155. Highlights of Phillipe training. Nog calls him the best striker at 155. George's hand is still hurt but he doesn't think it will be a factor and Mir thinks it will make him fight harder.

Lightweight Fight: Phillipe Nover vs. George Roop

Round One Recap: It hit the ground early after Phillipe landed some good punches. George swept Phillip and ended up on top but Phillipe locked in a beautiful kimura for the win.

Winner – Phillipe Nover by Submission

Nog compares Phillipe to Anderson Silva and Phillipe fakes passing out after his hand is raised.

Previously: Krzy, Vinny, Efrain, and Junie won. They face each other tonight.

Krzy and Vinny are teammates at Team Quest so they know each other pretty well.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Vinny Magalhaes

Round One Recap: Krzy dominated on the feet, scoring well with inside leg kicks. Vinny was able to pull guard and catch Krzy with an armbar for the win.

Winner – Vinny Magalhaes by Submission

Vinny vs. Ryan to be crowned the Light Heavyweight Champion of TUF 8.

Highlights of Junie training. He feels that he's gotten worse since being on the show. Junie says that he doesn't even want to fight and would rather Shane take his place. Back at the house, Junie and Vinny say that Ryan will get submitted quickly by Vinny. Junie says even if he loses, he'll be more successful than anyone. Shane tells him to, "show me." Junie throws a glass at Shane and then gets in his face. Vinny restrains Junie.

Dana walks into the house and talks to Junie in private. "So, what the fuck is wrong with you. I can't figure out if you're retarded, bi-polar, or is one of these dudes that is afraid of failing." Junie says there's a lot of pressure on him and he doesn't want to lose. Dana knows that Junie would rather find a way out than lose a fight. Dana says Junie should have been kicked off three times. Dana says he's going to talk to the guys about what he should do with Junie. Dana brings everyone outside and tells them about the Junie situation. "This ain't Survivor. We don't vote him off. We fucking beat him off. That didn't sound good did it?" Greatest. Man. Ever. Dana asks everyone and they all think Junie should fight. Dana asks Junie if he wants to fight and Junie says yes.

Junie says if he loses, he's not going to fight anymore because if he can't beat Efrain, he can't beat anyone.

Lightweight Fight: Junie Browning vs. Efrain Escudero

Round One Recap: Both guys landed some decent strikes with Efrain getting the better of them. He also scored a takedown but did nothing with it. 10-9 Efrain.

Round Two Recap: Junie was doing well on his feet but Efrain scored a takedown. Efrain locked in a darce choke for the victory.

Winner – Efrain Escudero by Submission

Efrain wanted to prove that he has a striking game. Mir says that Junie didn't follow the gameplan. Didn't Matt Hughes have that problem in Season 6? Mir says that Junie gave up the choke because he wanted out.

Efrain vs. Phillipe to be crowned the Lightweight Champion on TUF 8.

Junie goes outside to sulk and says he's in the wrong sport. He says that he's wasted three years of his life trying to fight.

Nog and Mir had a bet that if Nog's team won in the semi-finals, Mir would shave his head. "It's a good thing Nogueira can fight because he can't cut hair for shit" says Dana.

The show ends with Junie saying, "of course I'm going to fight again." SWERVE!

Everyone watch The Ultimate Finale 8 next Saturday on SpikeTV to see who is crowned the winners of Season 8.

i just want to say that Mir is a real jerk-off and i seriously hope that he is playing it up for the camera because if he is really such a big jock douchebag in his day to day life i feel sort of bad for him

What's wrong with being a big dumb jock? Takes all kinds to make the world go around.

But Mir is an asshole...Junie was his guy, and he threw him to the wolves- not just at the end, but during training.

A good mentor should recognize the angst and turmoil in his students and try to guide them- I never thought that Junie was given that, other then Dana White getting on his ass.

Losing is probably going to benefit Junie Brown in the long run.

- Bader is another boring wrestler, who I don't think Dana is very impressed with.

- Nover definetely looks like he has some potential. He reminds me of Diego Sanchez when he gets in the cage, but is a cool cat outside the cage unlike Diego who's a nutbar all the time.

- For being team mates, Krysztof and Vinny sure didn't show a lot of love for one another on the show. I was dissapointed that Krysztof lost, but Vinny has some damn good BJJ.

I was kind of hoping Junie would get in there and destroy Efrain, but things went according to plan for Dana. Junie did look really good in the first round until he started gassing. His cardio was definetely his weak spot on the show.

I agree with the comment about Mir being a big dumb jock, I really lost a lot of respect for Mir after watching this season of TUG. I expect Nog to wipe the floor with him in their fight.

Mir was being a bitch during the Bader-Marshall fight. It was too obvious that he was trying to influence the ref to stand the fight back up...constantly yelling about how boring it was (and to be fair it was), complaining that Bader was grabbing the cage when Elliot did the same thing in front of the camera, etc.

I hope Big Nog beats him to a pulp. The guy just seems to have no class.

I am looking forward to the lightweight finale. I think the light heavyweight fight is going to be a snooze fest. Bader will lay on Vinny for a round before getting trapped in a submission. As amazing as Vinny is he isn't very exciting wither. If nothing else they set up Mir as a great heel that everybody will love to hate and Noguiera as the likable face that people will root for.
Based on the result I'm a little surprised that Junie is training with Couture, he really didn't show me much. While he clearly has some potential physically he is major head case. I don't think he is very coachable.

Mir is a jackass and a terrible coach. I think the only thing he has told his guys all season is to hit in 3's. Wow what an expert. Nog is going to destroy this guy.

- I'm glad Bader won but that fight was FN boring. I flipped channels while that was going on.

- Disappointed that Kryz lost. I would have liked a Bader/Kryz matchup.

- Nover vs Escudero was the fight I wanted at the finale so I love this result.

- Not too particularly happy that Junie is still around and somehow in the main card of the finale while the other fighters are on the prelim card. If anything, all semi final runner ups should face off against each other in the main card, not just Junie.

- I have to agree that Mir is a complete prick and hoping that he gets his ass handed to him in a paper bag by Nogueira.

This season just wasn't as entertaining as previous seasons so unfortunately I stopped watching before getting to see the highlight, Junie getting pwned. Gonna have to catch that on a replay as that dickhead really deserves nothing good to ever happen to him in life.

Funny Dana couldn't hide his disdain when he announced Bader the winner after his fight with Marshall.

Posted By: Guest#6081 (Guest)  on December 05, 2008 at 07:40 PM

I think Mir only looks like a dick when compared to Nog. He didn't seem bad to me. Remember that by the time he gave up on Junie, this crap had been going on for quite a while.

-The difference between Bader and Elliot and the cage was that Elliot grabbed it used it and let it go. Bader held onto it at least twice for mroe than a few seconds.

-Junie got what was coming to him. He screwed himself over. Remember, it wasn't just Mir but ALL of his coaches that gave up on him in the end. And that's just what was shown when episodes were focused on him. Imagine what we didn't see.

-Nog is like the awesomest guy ever. Period.
