Damn Thiago... U disappointed me with that showboating in the 3rd round.. u wasted so much time with that crap.

It is a shame Thiago has such poor takedown defense because he was easily outstriking Evans. But another good gameplan by Mr Jackson....
Speaking of Evans, can we finally agree his stand up is some of the most overrated in MMA? He was rocked by a gassed Silva for crying out loud.

I thought it was a good show top to bottom. I'm a huge Cole Miller fan, and hopefully more people are after tonight.
I'm disappointed that Hazelett lost. Something seemed off about him tonight though. He looked out of it, possibly sick or something. Either way, Daley caught him good. I still don't think Daley stands a chance in a division dominated by wrestlers, but he is making a name for himself. So, at least the money will be there for him.
As for the main event, Evans came in with a perfect gameplan. He finally went back to his wrestling roots. He exposed a weakness in Silva's game, and also showed that Silva isn't too comfortable on the bottom, despite being a black belt in BJJ.
On the other hand though, this fight did Evans no favors in terms of popularity. Even with the loss, I think Silva came away with more fans than Evans. Oh well though.
Good show overall.

While Im glad I didnt get this card, this would have been worth $20. Evans-v-Jackson cant come soon enough.

Rashad's fight can be looked at in two ways....

- He is now emulating GSP, by minimizing risk and fighting towards his strengths. Perfectly acceptable strategy that will give you more W's than L's.
OR
- That was the definition of lay and pray, Rashad did not try to finish and was almost scared to engage in striking.

my goodness this sam stout.

Lol at Fans booing Rashad Evans for using wrestling as opposed to Striking. Honestly if you don't like takedowns and stuff... theres an alternative sport you can watch... Boxing :)

rashad kicked thiagos ass, thiagos third round antics were really gay. rashad better not get lazy on jackson because if he gets caught by jackson like he did silva then its lights out.....fight of the night was stout vs lauzon

Steve Perry, you clown!Silva was only outstriking Rashad in the last round.Rashad was both out striking and beating Silva easily with wrestling fot the first two rounds.Get the facts right.

Everytime I watch Stout fight he gets better, he could be something with a few more years experience.

Posted By: cbg (Guest)  on January 03, 2010 at 01:36 PM

People are only hating on Rashad's wrestling because he did nothing...and I repeat, nothing with it. Never did he get any significant GnP; he could not hold Silva down. Silva got up every time.

That said, I find it hard to score the fight for Silva since he was unable to mount any real offense until the third round. I don't think he went back to showboating, I think he simply gassed. Silva is not so dumb that he'd back off and not KO the guy if he was in any condition to do so.

Evans fought a great fight and Silva acted liked an idiot in the 3rd round.

The Stout fight was absolutely incredible.

Posted By: SeatsPro (Guest)  on January 03, 2010 at 02:20 PM

Evans was trying to win on the cards. Simple as that. Silva was not hurt at all. He was winded. Main events need to go five rounds regardless of whether it is a title fight or not. That main event was not satisfying at all.

Posted By: birds_of_a_feather (Registered)  on January 03, 2010 at 04:30 PM

Rashad fought a smart fight. Silva is good too though. So yeah Rashad couldn't capitolize on his takedowns. And Silva's "antics" were great strategy and almost got him a win. He tricked Rashad into a bad spot and almost got the KO.

-Paul Daley weighed in at 172 pounds and was fined 10% of his purse.

...and once again, there really needs to be another option for the fighter who makes weight.

Hazelett could choose to either take the fight anyway and fight a much bigger stronger opponent or walk away and make nothing.

Sorry, but stiffer penalties and better options are needed.

Make if 50% of his purse if they fight... and have not fighting actually be a realistic option. If a fighter comes in at weight and his opponent comes in over, he should be able to walk away from it- with the overweight fighter paying him 50% of what his purse would have been.

When threatened with having to pay some big money out of pocket, I can guarantee that fighters wouldn't be missing weight nearly as much as they are now.

...and there should be no chance in hell of an overweight fighter winning any bonuses. It was complete bs that they gave KOotN to Daley.
