Hey 411 readers, thanks for joining 411's live MMA coverage tonight!

So check this out! I just got me a neat new Droid Razr with an HDMI cable so that I don't need my laptop to stream the Facebook prelims anymore. Here's how my purchase went down:

Actually it was slow, painful, grueling three hour event that ended with an argument between my wife and I because this whole thing took too long and completely screwed up our day.

I didn't come here to tell you that so without further ado, let's make with the fussin' and a fightin'!

INTRODUCTION:

We are live at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!

Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan are of course on the mic tonight as we go to the octagon for our first fight.

Stout is more active in this round but he is still having a hard time finding his target. Stout finally lands a hard right. He follows with another but Tavares is hanging tough until the horn sounds. There's the Aldo I've wanted to see in the UFC!

Posted By: Guest#9613 (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 12:57 AM

That was Aldos most amazing finish so far. But these little fighters wouldn't stand a chance against a super athlete like Patrick Willis. Willis would drive him into the ground and bust 'em up real good. Yeah go ahead and grab that fence! It's goin' down wit dat azz!!!

During the post-ppv press conference Dana did indeed confirmed that Rumble was cut.

This was a damn good card. Every fight delivered and the crowd was hype the entire night. That spinning kick knock out was freaking awesome.

Posted By: Yup. (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 02:00 AM

Yamasaki is the best ref in MMA.

Posted By: cHAD (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 02:55 AM

what a weakass card. UFC needs to cut back on the PPV's.

Posted By: Guest#1369 (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 04:09 AM

Im so glad Aldo knocked Mendes out so everyone who actually thought Mendes would grind out a decision can quit the hype in how great they THOUGHT he was.

Posted By: Royce (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 07:04 AM

That sure was a highlight reel of a PPV. The KO by Edson Barboza was all sorts of great and seeing Anthony Johnson get his ass handed to him was satisfying (even though the constant stand-ups were unfair he probably deserved it due to his inability to cut weight yet again).
The most dubious refing award has to go to Yamasaki though for the ridiculous DQ of Erick Silva. Silva was clearly aiming for the side of the head and one accidental shot to the back of the head should not warrant a DQ (it should be a No Contest). If a fighter gets knocked to the ground and chooses to defend themselves by constantly moving their head with their face to the ground, then the're bound the take the odd shot to the back of the head. The fighter trying to hit them in the side of the head should not be punished.
Much love for the Jose Aldo celebration. That's the best he's looked in the UFC and he showed good pace to get past security.

Dana pretty much guaranteed a Rumble was cut by making sure that the ref stood them up CONSTANTLY so he couldn't grind out a win.

Yeah he got choked out but that was some sketchy ref work. i bet they would have let mendes lay and pray on Aldo all night.

Posted By: MadLib (Guest)  on January 15, 2012 at 03:14 PM

Rumble wasn't doing anything significant on top so I don't see a problem with the ref standing them up. Did you not see the Rumble vs Hardy fight. He laid on top of him for 2 rnd.

Great card and great fights overall. Excellent work Radulich.
