So I wasn't planning on doing a 411 Ground and Pound show after tonights fight but then I remembered that after I run Warrior Dash on Saturday...



...my best friends family, my family and I will be staying overnight at Disney. I didn't come here to tell you that so without further dudes, let's make with the fussin' and-a fightin'.

FUEL TV UFC PRELIMINARY MATCHES


INTRODUCTION:

We are live from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Providing some pre-fight analysis for the Fuel broadcast are Jay Glazer and Stephan Bonnar. Jon Anik and Kenny Florian will be along to do commentary for the fights.

Bantamweight Bout: Nick Denis (135.5lbs 10-2) vs. Joseph Sandoval (135lbs 6-1)

ROUND ONE: Denis comes out throwing leather. Denis chases Sandoval down, grabs a Thai plumb and KO's Sandoval with a series of short elbows to the noodle. That's all folks!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Nick Denis by KO at 0:22 of round 1.

Featherweight bout: Daniel Pineda (145lbs 15-7) vs. Pat Schilling (145lbs 5-0)

ROUND ONE: Pineda comes out jabbing. Pineda tags Schilling with a left hand. Schilling returns with a leg kick. Pineda gets a takedown and immediately gets to full mount. He's teeing off on Schilling. Schilling gives up his back and takes more punishment. He stands up but Pineda locks in the rear-naked choke and closes this one out before the end of the first round.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Daniel Pineda by submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:37 of round 1.

Lightweight bout: Fabricio Camoes (156lbs 12-6-1) vs. Tommy Hayden (155.5lbs 8-0)

ROUND ONE: After a bit of pawing and dancing. Hayden lands a leg kick. Camoes misses a few strikes but eventually lands leg kick. He fails a takedown attempt. Hayden gets a waist lock and takes Camoes down. He can't keep him there as Camoes gets back to his feet. Hayden stalks him and takes him down again. Hayden gets his back. Hayden works from half guard and Camoes defends by grabbing an arm bar. Hayden pulls out of it and Camoes ends up reversing positions. Camoes takes his back and eventually chokes out Hayden with an RNC.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Fabricio Camoes by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:03 of round 1.

Welterweight bout: Charlie Brenneman (170.5lbs 14-3) vs. Daniel Roberts (170.5lbs 12-3)

ROUND ONE: The Spaniard lands a hard right hand. Ninja defends and is immediately taken down by Brenneman. Brenneman smothers Roberts from half guard. Brenneman pulls his leg free and gets to side control. Brenneman gets a crucifix and goes to work on Roberts' face. Roberts defends and The Spaniard is back in half-guard. Brenneman gets free and moves back in to side control. He knees Roberts in his side. Roberts edges his way to the fence and tries to get free. Round 1 ends with Brenneman trying to take Roberts' back.

SCORECARD: Brenneman 10-9

ROUND TWO: Roberts lands a kick to the face before Brenneman uses his octopus powers to throw Roberts to the ground, again. We resume pretty much where round 1 left off, with Spaniard in half-guard. Brenneman gets a crucifix again and attempts to finish Roberts off. Roberts defends and pushes Brenneman in to full guard. Dean stands them up. Brenneman gets a takedown but Roberts reverses and locks in an inverted triangle as the horn sounds.

SCORECARD: Brenneman 10-9

ROUND THREE: Brenneman gets a body lock takedown. Brenneman is in side control and then half guard. Brenneman goes back to hammerfisting Roberts from side control. Dean stands them up again. Brenneman throws Roberts down again. Roberts defends and locks Brenneman into full guard. The fighters are in a stalemate as they try to get an advantage on one another. Roberts ends the round with a kimura attempt.

SCORECARD: Brenneman 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Charlie Brenneman by unanimous decision (30-27X2m 29-28).

Yes, that was a very Charlie Brenneman-like performance...yawn.

Lightweight bout: Khabib Nurmagomedov (155lbs 16-0) vs. Kamal Shalorus (155.5lbs 7-1-2)

ROUND ONE: Nurmagomedov lands some strikes to start off. He tries for a takedown but Shalorus defends and keeps this fight standing. Shalorus goes for the KO but misses. Nurmagomedov is doing a good job of evading Shalorus' strikes. The Russian tries a weird flying…something…kind of looks like an aborted flying knee. Nurmagomedov smashes Shalorus on the button and knocks him on his butt. He tries to finish him off with punches and hammerfists but Shalorus hangs tough. He's all defense but he's not giving up. Shalorus gets back to his feet for a final slugfest with the Russian!

SCORECARD: Nurmagomedov 10-9

ROUND TWO: They trade leg kicks and Nurmagomedov goes for a takedown. Shalorus sprawls but is eventually taken down. The Russian is working from half guard. Yamasaki stands them up. Nurmagomedov gets a single leg takedown. Nurmagomedov wrestles Shalorus and tries to get an advantage to work from. Yamasaki stands them up again. Nurmagomedov attempts a flying crane kick. He lands a final punch to end the round.

SCORECARD: Nurmagomedov 10-9

ROUND THREE: Shalorus attempts a takedown and gets nada. The Russian tries a double, gets nothing but tags Shalorus. Nurmagomedov gets the takedown and lands in full guard. Shalorus gives up his back and taps out to the RNC.

Russia > Persia

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Khabib Nurmagomedov by submission at 2:08 of round 3.

Middleweight bout: Jorge Rivera (185.5lbs 18-9) vs. Eric Schafer (185lbs 14-6-2)

ROUND ONE: After a brief exchange Schafer takes Rivera to the ground. Schafer tries to pass from half guard. River sweeps with a wizzer and gets to his feet. Schafer grabs a single leg and lands in half guard. Schafer postures up and smashes Rivera. Rivera sweeps again and puts Schafer on his back. That's the round.

SCORECARD: Schafer 10-9

ROUND TWO: Schafer tries for a single leg but he's gets smacked for trying. Rivera puts Schafer on his duff. Rivera takes advantage of a gassed out Schafer and finishes him off with strikes. Nice work Mr. Rivera, good luck on your future endeavors.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Jorge Rivera by TKO (strikes) at 1:31 of round 2.

UFC ON FX MATCHES


Heavyweight bout: Pat Barry (242lbs 6-4) vs. Christian Morecraft (256lbs 7-2)

ROUND ONE: I just want to say that Pat Barry once referred to himself as "Fat Larry." I find that really, really funny. Anywho, back to the fight. Barry goes for a kick to the front leg. Morecraft catches it and knocks Barry over. He immediately takes his back and works for an RNC. Barry escapes and gets back to his feet. Barry hits him with some jabs. Morecraft shoots and gets kicked in the leg, nearly knocking him down. Morecraft shoots again and after a brief respite on the fence he gets him down. Morecraft goes for an arm in triangle. Barry defends but gives up his arm. Barry defends and pulls himself free. Apparently Barry's jiu jitsu is better than Lesnars. Barry counters a right hand and delivers THE BIG KOBOSH! GOODNIGHT IRENE! Well done Fat Larry! We here at the First Round Finish Club salute you good sir.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Pat Barry by KTFO at 3:38 of round 1.

Back to Azeroth for you World of Morecraft, you've just been wiped!

Bantamweight bout: Mike Easton (135lbs 11-1) vs. Jared Papazian (135.5lbs 14-6-0, 1NC)

ROUND ONE: The fighters clinch and trade all manner of strikes. We may be in for a bit of ROADHOUSE here. The pace slows and they press each other into the fence. Easton takes control against the cage but loses position to Papazian. Easton delivers a series of knees to the body. Yamasaki isn't seeing enough action so they are stood up. They trade leg kicks. Easton kicks but his leg is caught. Easton lands a short hook. They trade punches. Papazian throws a series of rights. Easton lands a counter left. Easton keeps up the pressure and cuts the cage off. He lands another left and follows with a kick. They clinch and end the round the exact same way they began it.

SCORECARD: Easton 10-9

ROUND TWO: The fighters circle and trade a few strikes. Easton is the aggressor. They trade again and Easton lands the lions share of strikes. Papazian clinches and presses Easton against the fence. They trade the advantageous position against the fence before Yamasaki resets them. Papazian lands a short right hook and a spinning back kick. Easton back trips Papazian and gets a takedown. Papazian stands back up but is hit with knees for his troubles. Papazian gets hit a few more times and ends the round with a takedown.

SCORECARD: Easton 10-9

ROUND THREE: They immediately clinch up. Papazian is knee'd in the groin. They resume as Easton attempts a takedown. The fighters are going toe-to-toe and Papazian is actually landing a higher volume of strikes. They trade, trade again and trade some more. Easton trips Papazian. They clinch against the cage again. With one minute to fight they go punch for punch until the buzzer finally sounds.

SCORECARD: Papazian 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Mike Easton by majority decision (29-28, 30-27, 29-29).


Welterweight bout: Duane "Bang" Ludwig (170.5lbs 29-11) vs. Josh Neer (171lbs 32-10-1)

ROUND ONE: The fighters start off trading and clinching up. They separate and Ludwig goes to work with a high volume of punches. Neer loses his mouthpiece. Ludwig is landing punches all over Neer. Neer clinches but gets tore up with knees to the body. Neer gets a single leg and trips Ludwig. Neer works from the bottom and locks up a guillotine. Ludwig fights it but can't get his head free. Ludwig is asleep! WAR SHARK FIGHTS!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Josh Neer by submission (guillotine) at 3:04 of round 1.



MAIN EVENT


Lightweight Bout: Melvin Guillard (156lbs 46-10-3, 1NC) vs. Jim Miller (155lbs 20-3)

ROUND ONE: Miller counters Guillard with a short right hook. Guillard launches a pair of flying knees. Guillard nails him with a left hook. Miller recovers and presses forward. He presses Guillard against the fence. Miller gets a takedown and takes his back. It's not looking good for the Blackzillian….and he's out! Welcome back Mr. Miller, we've missed you.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Jim Miller by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:04 of round 1.

I don't know why Guillard kept going for the flying knee, he missed the first attempt, caught him clean on the 2nd, grazed on the third.. missed the 4th attempt with grabbing his leg before being pushed off and went for it again anyway second later.

I consider myself a UFC fan, but I completely forgot about this show being on. I also work with a bunch of UFC fans and literally NO ONE was talking about this show, or even last weekends. For the record I knew about last weekends, but was much more interested in football than the ppv.

Anik and Florian did a nice job on commentary, I was happy with what I saw tonight. Also I liked that they did backstage interviews following the action with AH asking real questions to the fighters like he did with Neer and spitting out the mouthpiece. Get more into it with interviews and give the fans a reason to care about the guys even before they step into the cage.
