The Ultimate Fighter 6: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra
Episode 7

Previously
: Hughes was upset Paul and Dan didn't follow the gameplan, Jared and Tom of Team Hughes and George and Jon of Team Serra have yet to fight. Hughes has no say in the quarterfinal fights.

Opening Video

We recap last weeks fight between Ben and Dan. Blake notes that they pretty much beat the piss out of each other for 10 minutes. After the first round, Hughes was pissed that Dan didn't listen to him. The second round was all Ben and he had Dan running away.

In the locker room, Dan seems happy that he put on a great fight and Hughes is just upset that Dan didn't listen. Dan tries to apologize but Hughes tells him to shut up. Hughes tells Jared and Tom that they better follow the gameplan. Hughes walks out of the locker room and says he wishes he wasn't on the show.

Dan goes to the hospital to get things checked out. He says that the loss won't change what he does and how he does it.

Dana meets with Hughes to see what's bothering him. Hughes says, "I've got a bunch of guys who don't want to fight." Dana tries to tell him that Dan fought his heart out and Hughes just keeps saying that he didn't follow instructions. Hughes tells Dana that he wishes he didn't do the show. Dana tells Hughes to punish his students and "let them know what's up." "You know what the answer is, beat the living shit out of them," says Dana.

It's Team Hughes training session time. Hughes gives a speech about how he thinks everyone is well prepared and they're just not following what he says in training or during the fight. He states that he walked away from a 10-month old girl and how he is giving it everything he's got while they're not. Hughes says he's on the show because he needs to be, not because he wants to be. He tells his guys to give him a good practice or he's gone.

Hughes puts his guys through a tough work out and still doesn't think he's getting enough energy from his guys. Jared takes that as a slap in the face because he hasn't fought yet and states that he wanted to walk away plenty of times but never bitched about it.

Jared begins mocking Hughes telling everyone to, "PUMP IT UP! YEAH!" Hughes says that Jared is now acting like Dan, putting on a show in practice and getting scared during the fight.

That night at the house, Mac is upset at how Hughes was talking about Dan. Mac says that Hughes should take it a bit easier on the guys because most of them all rookies. Mac thinks that Hughes is letting Hughes vs. Serra is getting in the way of his judgment.

Dan gets back from the doctor and Mac tells him that he fought his heart out.

At the fight announcement, Dana tells Serra that he gets full control over the quarterfinal match-ups. Serra wishes he could be a fly on the wall during Team Hughes training after a loss because those guys are looking battered. "There's a such thing as tough love and there's such thing as a ego out of control," says Serra.

Hughes picks the fight of Jared (Team Hughes) against George (Team Serra).

George thinks he's the hardest training guy on Team Serra because he gets up in the morning and goes through a running routine. George trains hard to show that he's serious and that he wants to be a fighter.

Ben says that everyone on Team Serra has become like a family except George, who is just in it for himself. One morning George didn't bother to wake his teammates up. George says that no one asked him to wake them up, so he didn't. On the trip over to the gym, someone asks George to wake one of them up and he says, "You should be able to get up yourself."

George says that the first time he saw UFC, he knew that's what he wanted to do. Serra thinks that George is one of the best fighters on the show because he wants to learn and he has a great work ethic.

During a Team Hughes training session, Marc Fiore is rolling with Jared and all of a sudden, Jared feels something wrong in his ribs. Hughes brings in a witch doctor, who basically says that Jared is going to need some work done to his ribs. Jared is broken up and crying as Hughes tells him that he likely can't fight. Jared says that he doesn't care if he's hurt, he just wants to fight. Jared goes to get an x-ray to see how bad the injury is.

Jared returns to the house and says that it's just bruised ribs and it won't get worse, it's just going to hurt. Jared is happy that he's clear to fight. One of his teammates tells him to just rub some Robitussin on it.

At training, Jared works on his all around game. Blake says that Jared is the darkhorse to win and Mac says that behind him, Jared and George are the best fighters.

At the house, George is doing sit ups at 11:00 AM in the morning and he once again didn't wake anyone up. George says that he switched the light on for him and if that doesn't wake him up then he's got problems.

George asks Ben if he owes him something, Ben says no, George tells him to shut the fuck up then. George says he's not anyone's mother.

At the weigh in, Hughes says it's ground technician vs. ground technician. Jared weighs in at 171, George weighs in at 168.5. Jared and George have an intense face off. Serra doesn't think Jared is as tough as he acts and that he's, "Mr. Hughes' boy."

During the morning of the fight, George sits down next to Jared and begins to eat his cereal. Jared says how weird it his to see his opponent just hours before the fight. ‘So, you want to fight later?" "How about 4:00?" "4:00 at the training center?" "Sounds good."

Both guys go through pre-fight warm ups.

Jared Rollins (Team Hughes) vs. George Sotiropoulos (Team Serra)

Round 1: Interesting note, Jared holds his hands a lot like Hughes when standing. Not much happening through the first minutes outside of some jabs by George. Jared throws a leg kick that lands. They trade jabs. Jared throws a leg kick but George catches it. They clinch and go to the ground for a second but both men get back up. Jared connects with a jab. George comes back with a combo. George connects with another big combo that knocks down Jared. George pounces on him and finishes.

Winner – George Sotiropoulos by TKO

Serra says it was a great fight with George just picking him apart. Hughes says that Jared acted like he didn't want to be in there. George states that he was just listening to Serra like it was training. Jared says that George just wanted to counter with annoy Serra in the corner. He goes on to do an AWESOME Matt Serra impersonation. Would have been better if he won though.

The replay shows that a left uppercut is the punch that knocked down Jared. George puts over his coaches and how well they prepared him. "Six to one, ouch."

In the locker room, Jared begins throwing chairs and tipping over tables. "I feel like I just wasted my time going to practice twice a day." Dana explains how a loss feels to us regular people. "It's like you work so hard everyday of your life and then all of a sudden someone comes in and knocks you off and all your work meant shit."

Dana goes to talk to Jared and Jared says that he didn't come on the show to get his ass kicked. Dana says that he just got caught and that everyone gets caught.

Next Week: The final prelim fight between Tommy and Jon. Hughes says that Tommy is a lot like himself. Jon is a kid who grew up with nothing.

Show Thoughts: So much for a technical battle on the ground. I thought the fight was slow for the most part but it's hard to complain about a knockout finish. Jared seemed to be all talk as he showed pretty much nothing in the fight and George has some good stand up for a guy who is a ground wizard. Hughes continues to act like a prick. I guess his threat was all for not as he seems to be staying despite another loss.
