411’s Show XC Elite Challenger Series Report 8.15.08

    -LIVE from the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, CA!

    -Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros are our hosts for the evening. They hype the five fights scheduled for the evening:

  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Jared Hamman (10-1) vs. Po'ai Suganuma (9-1)
  • Lightweight Bout - Fabricio Camoes (10-4) vs. Sam Morgan (19-10)
  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Cyrille "The Snake" Diabate (14-6-1) vs. Jaime Fletcher (9-3)
  • Catch Weight Non-Title Bout - Keith Berry (7-2) vs. Ray Lizama (5-5) (Berry is the King of the Cage Middleweight Champion)
  • Women's 130lb Non-Title Bout - Debi Purcell (4-1) vs. Rosi Sexton (8-1) (Sexton is the Cage Warriors Champion)

    -Mauro Ranallo then discusses Suganuma vs. Hamman, and we get footage. Quadros joins us, and says he thought it was a premature stoppage. The fighters discuss the last fight, Hamman thinks it shouldn't have been stopped but makes no excuses.

    -The cage is SMALL.

  • Catch Weight Non-Title Bout - Keith Berry (7-2) vs. Ray Lizama (5-5) (Berry is the King of the Cage Middleweight Champion):

    ROUND ONE: Jason Herzog is the official. And here we go. Berry with a combo right away, a knee follows and then backs off. A nice knee to the face by Berry, then a right and Lizama tries to stay away. Lizama gets a BIG right, staggers Berry and stuffs a shoot. Combo by Berry, but he eats a left. Jabs by Berry, a right and they clinch against the cage. Some dirty boxing, Lizama gets away and some jabs by Lizama. Berry misses a wild right, but he gets a knee and a short right. Berry with a left, more jabs by Lizama. Berry with a knee, straight left by Lizama and back to the jabs. Another jab by Lizama, a right by Berry drops Lizama. He gets his back right away, looks for the choke but doesn't have the hooks. Berry with punches, Lizama is up and they separate. Great combo by Lizama but Berry with another big right. They just throw now, Lizama is doing decent damage as Berry just walks into him. Berry lost his mouthpiece, gets it back and the round ends with a right by Berry.

    SCORECARD:: An action filled round one. Both guys did a lot of damage standing, but Berry got him down and was close to a submission as well as some decent shots on the ground. I'll go Berry 10-9.

    ROUND TWO: Round two begins and jabs by Lizama land. Berry straight ahead, gets a knee and opens up on Lizama, who takes it. Jabs by Lizama blocked, but he gets a right and left. He lands a combo, a hook and then opens up on Berry! Lizama is landing at will and has Berry against the cage. Berry comes back with an overhand right, they clinch and Berry is tired. Body shot by Lizama, Berry is rocked as he continues to land and Berry is down and the fight is stopped!

    -THE RESULT: Ray Lizama via RD2 (2:15) TKO

    Stephen Quadros is with Lizama. They discuss his last loss and he says a win like this makes it all better. Lizama says he knew Berry would throw wiggy punches, that barely missed. The choke was not a factor, he knew he wasn't giving up.





  • Women's 130lb Non-Title Bout - Debi Purcell (4-1) vs. Rosi Sexton (8-1) (Cage Warriors Champion):

    ROUND ONE: Herb Dean is the official. Here we go. They touch and jabs by Sexton to begin. They clinch, trade knees and a good left from Purcell. Knees by Sexton, another left by Purcell and she tries to get Sexton to the ground. Knees by Purcell, they battle around the cage in the clinch and knees by Sexton. Sexton looks for a double leg, Purcell stuffs her and stays up. Sexton works for a trip and a single leg, but fails. Knees by Purcell and then a left again. They separate, left by Purcell and then a knee. Knees to the thighs by Sexton as they are clinched again. A jab by Purcell, and the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: A close round, largely because they were locked up so much. Purcell landed some good lefts, and she'll take the round 10-9.

    ROUND TWO: Round two begins and they both throw leg kicks. Sexton catches a kick, but eats a leg kick. Jab by Purcell, they clinch and Sexton looks for the takedown and gets it. She stacks her up and into the guard she goes. Sexton gets her against the cage, stands and tries to drop down but Purcell grabs her and pulls her in She pushes Sexton off of her, and both land jabs. Supergirl punch by Sexton but she takes a kick on the way in. Knees by Sexton against the cage, but Purcell gets a trip takedown and lands a right. Drops down with a right, leg kicks by Purcell and the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: Another close round, but with more action. It's a push on takedowns, but I think Sexton pushed the action and ties it up 19-19.

    ROUND THREE: Spinning back fist by Purcell to kick off the round. To the cage they go, they trade knees and Purcell works some dirty boxing. They separate, combo by Sexton and nails Sexton as she charge sin with a Supergirl punch. Knees by Purcell against the cage, Sexton with knees as well. A right by Sexton, leg kick by Purcell after missing a spinning back fist. Purcell pushes Sexton to the cage, works for a trip, but Sexton gets her down. Cartwheel pass by Sexton, up kicks by Purcell and Sexton in with a right. Purcell looks for a nee bar, Sexton with rights as Purcell has her tied up and the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: A really good round here, Purcell worked hard but Sexton pushed the action again and did more damage, even if she was almost caught at the end. I will go 29-28 for Sexton. It was a close fight, I'll be interested to see the scores.

    -THE RESULT: Rosi Sexton via Split Decision (30-27 Sexton, 29-28 Purcell, 30-27 Sexton)

    Stephen Quadros is with Rosi Sexton. She worked her hands a lot and says Purcell was a great opponent. She says fighting in the US has been great and she is very excited to be here where there is a great women's division.





  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Cyrille "The Snake" Diabate (14-6-1) vs. Jaime Fletcher (9-3):

    ROUND ONE: Jason Herzog is the official. They come out and leg kicks by Fletcher to begin. Diabate shakes them off, he is a giant of a man. Fletcher shoots, to the cage they go and knees by Fletcher. Fletcher wants the takedown, Diabate turns him and gets a left to separate them. Diabate catches Fletcher as he tried a Superman punch. To the cage they go, body shots by Diabate and then knees. Diabate grabs a single leg, Fletcher looks for a guillotine and stops that. Diabate escapes and more knees by Diabate. HUGE flying knee by Diabate, another knee and then Fletcher throws wildly. Leg kick by Fletcher, another and then one to the body. Left hook by Diabate as Fletcher tries to run, body kick by Diabate and then a leg kick. Jabs by Diabate, body kick and another. Jab by Diabate, a right hook and Fletcher shoots, to the cage they go and Diabate with elbows. Fletcher gets the takedown late in the round, into guard and then looks for an ankle lock as the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: Fletcher got the late takedown, but Diabate picked him apart and got some really solid shots that rocked Fletcher. 10-9 for Diabate.

    ROUND TWO: Round two begins and leg kicks by Fletcher to begin. Diabate throws a knee and it was low. Accidental as Fletcher was flying in with a right. He takes some time, they touch and back to action we go. Leg kicks by Fletcher, but a huge body kick by Diabate. Fletcher shoots, and slams Diabate down. Fletcher is in the guard and gets a right, postures up and gets half guard. Diabate looks for a kimura, Fletcher escapes and Diabate gets an elbow from the bottom. Fletcher can't do much from guard, Diabate postures up and Fletcher starts to land and gets him back down. Fletcher stands, and gets a guillotine on Diabate. Diabate fights, passes guard and gets side control. Elbows to the face of Fletcher, he rolls and Diabate has side control of the back, Fletcher turtles up and Diabate lands hard elbow shots. Fletcher escapes, to his feet and Diabate take shim back down. Side control by Diabate, lefts and elbows land including some hard body shots. Lefts by Diabate and he is unloading on Fletcher. Side control of the back by Diabate, lefts to the head of Fletcher who is bleeding badly now. Body shots by Diabate as he is dominating right now. Fletcher tries to roll, gets stacked and the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: Fletcher looked good early in the round, but Diabate took control and never gave it back. 20-18 for Diabate thus far.

    ROUND THREE: And here we go with the final round. The doctor checked Fletcher in between rounds, but he is good to go. Leg kicks by Fletcher, a body kick as well and a great straight left by Diabate. Fakes a knee, gets a combo and Fletcher is staggered. A knee by Diabate counters a body kick, to the cage and elbows by Diabate. Push kick by Diabate, jab by Fletcher and he shoots in, Diabate stuffs him and starts to get lefts to the face of Fletcher. Fletcher is bleeding again and looks for a guillotine and works some knees, drops down and closes guard on Diabate. Fletcher wraps the legs and has Diabate trapped. Fletcher has to release the hold and Diabate is in guard. Short elbows by Diabate, lefts as well. He starts to drop down with elbows yet again, and Fletcher is opened up badly again. More elbows by Diabate, Fletcher turns and turtles up. Looks for the hooks, Fletcher is bleeding very badly as the round ends.

    SCORECARD:: Fletcher looked to have the guillotine locked in, but he failed to keep it locked in and Diabate punished him yet again. He should take the bout 30-27.

    -THE RESULT: Cyrille "The Snake" Diabate via Unanimous Decision (30-27 Across The Cards)

    Stephen Quadros is with Diabate. He says he wasn't pleased with himself, but he won. Fletcher came to fight and made it hard to get the victory. Diabate loves Elite XC, and felt he got the rust off. He wants a title shot.





  • Lightweight Bout - Fabricio Camoes (10-4) vs. Sam Morgan (19-10):

    ROUND ONE: Herb Dean is the official. And here we go with fight #4 on the evening. They touch and leg kicks by Morgan to begin. Three in a row, Camoes shoots but Morgan looks for a guillotine, SLAM by Camoes, he gets full mount and then the back of Morgan. Hooks are in and he has the choke and Morgan taps. Have a nice night.

    -THE RESULT: Fabricio Camoes via RD1 (0:47) Submission

    Stephen Quadros is with Camoes. Camoes wants the big boys. He came here for a challenge and for a title. They show the WHOLE fight, and Camoes walks us through it. He says he respects Sammy, but it was a big win for him. Camoes then puts over his trainers, and says he did his job. His pants are getting a bit too big, and he needs a title. Noons would be a challenge for him, but he wants the fight. He'll fight whomever they feed him.




  • Light Heavyweight Bout - Jared Hamman (10-1) vs. Po'ai Suganuma (9-1):

    ROUND ONE: Jason Herzog is the official. And here we go with the main event. Leg kick by Hamman, but Suganuma kills him with an overhand right and Hamman is down. Suganuma has side control and is all over Hamman with rights. Hamman works off of the cage, escapes and they stand and throw wildly. Suganuma gets a body lock, they work against the cage and a wizard by Hamman. He gets his back, but Suganuma grabs a leg. Back to the feet, Hamman rocked and down again. Suganuma into the guard, and Hamman looks for an arm bar. Suganuma postures up and Suganuma escapes and gets back to the guard. Elbows by Suganuma, wide base and postures up and backs off. Hamman gets to his feet, and Suganuma misses a wild right. Hamman rocks Suganuma with a great combo, has him down and into north south they go. Hamman starts to unload on Suganuma, sweet hammer fists now and the fight is stopped!

    -THE RESULT: Jared Hamman via RD1 (2:34) TKO

    Stephen Quadros is with Hamman. He said that it wouldn't be a three round fight, and admits it wasn't easy. He thanks Suganuma for giving him a rematch, gives a shout out to his people and says he had to get back to basics and it feels great. Glory to God for the ability he has. He'll face anyone they put in his way and he is up for a third fight with Suganuma.



    -Mauro Ranallo and Stephen Quadros discuss the fight and say that these guys need to have the third fight. Stephen Quadros is freaking me out, the dude looks like the Joker, no shit.

    -They run down the results and that's all from the Table Mountain Casino in Friant, CA!
