411's The Ultimate Fighter 8 Report 09.24.08: Episode 2
Posted by Jeremy Lambert on 09.24.2008

The Ultimate Fighter Season 8
Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir
Episode 2

Just want to let everybody know that I'm going to take a different approach to recapping fights from now on. Strike by strike action is good for live reports but for reviews I think just a recap of the fight will be just fine. Saves people some reading, gets to the point, and gives my pause button a break.

Previous: 32 fighters arrived, 16 fought, 8 won. Jason Guida failed to make weight and his replacement got KOed. Other guys won with the highlight being Junie Browning. The final 8 make it into the house this week.

Lightweights: Wesley Murch vs. John Polakowski

Wesley is British, John has ADHD and Danny Tanner is his hero because he likes to hug people.

Recap: Dana White says he likes the Lightweights because they're quick and not boring like the Heavyweights. Nog chuckles instead of choking him out. John hurt him early on the feet but Wesley took him to the ground and locked in a heel hook. John escaped. John continued to dominate on the feet but Wesley got his back. John escaped and got back to his feet. Wesley threw a leg kick and messed up his ankle at the end of the first. He fought on and was limping to he stupidly threw a jumping knee, landing on his ankle and couldn't continue.

Winner: John Polakowski by Ref Stoppage

John hugged everyone he could after the victory. Nog claimed that he liked to hug as well. Mir says he wants a 3 second hug rule.

Light Heavyweights: Shane Primm vs. Sean O'Connell

Shane seems like he has charisma but won't let it out all the way, Sean was inspired by Forrest Griffin.

Recap: Shane beat him up with knees in the clinch but Sean got a takedown. Shane went for an armbar, Sean escaped. Shane kept looking for a kimura but never got it. He finally got Sean's back and locked in the rear naked choke for a win. Shane thanked Mir for coaching him and Mir liked his ground skills.

Winner: Shane Primm by Submission

Shane wants steak in the house.

Lightweights: Ido Pariente vs. Efrain Escudero

Ido is proud to be to be from Israel, Efrain would rather fight professionally rather than the streets. He says he'll win by rear naked choke.

Recap: Efrain scored an early takedown but did nothing with it. Efrain went for a darce choke but Ido escaped. Efrain got his back off the escape and locked in a rear naked choke for the win. Nice prediction.

Winner: Efrain Escudero by Submission

Efrain says his prediction was correct.

Light Heavyweights: Ryan Lopez vs. Tom Lawlor

Ryan is a bounty hunter by day and a fighter by night, if Tom doesn't fight then he dies.

Recap: Tom got his back and locked in a rear naked choke very early.

Winner: Tom Lawlor by Submission

Tom says that the big fat gorilla is off his back. He didn't show the charisma here that I heard from him in a recent BTR interview. Disappointing.

Lightweights: Roli Delgado vs. George Roop

Recap (Highlight Fight): Both these guys are very tall and Dana calls this the "Battle of the Beanpoles". Roli had him in a deep guillotine but George escaped thanks to Mir's advice. George beat him up on the feet and won the decision.

Winner: George Roop by Decision

Light Heavyweights: Kyle Kingsbury vs. Ryan Bader

Recap (Highlight Fight): Kyle did well on his feet, Ryan is a wrestler who did well when he finally got it to the ground. Ryan got the takedown and locked in an arm triangle for the victory in the second.

Winner: Ryan Bader by Submission

Lightweights: Charles Diaz vs. Shane Nelson

Recap (Highlight Fight): Mir says that Charles talked a big game. Shane ended up winning the decision after dominating him on the feet.

Winner: Shane Nelson by Decision

Light Heavyweights: Eliot Marshall vs. Karn Grigoryan

Recap: Karn ended up stuffing a takedown and ended up in guard, leading to Eliot going for a triangle choke. Eliot swept and got his back but Karn rolled to guard and survived another triangle attempt. They had the quickest five minute round ever and there was no clock in the corner so I'm not even sure it was really five minutes. Eliot won exchanges early in the round and got a takedown when the round ended. Ok, that was like two minutes so there was obviously so editing in these rounds. They went to the third round. Karn gets the takedown but Eliot sweeps with an omoplata. Eliot mounts him and throws some elbows that cut open Karn. Karn ends up sweeping by pushing off the cage and rolling into guard. The two minute edited round ends. Everyone believes that Eliot won the fight.

Winner: Karn Grigoryan by Split Decision

Mir is stunned and Dana seems to believe that Eliot was robbed. Nog thinks Karn won because he was more aggressive.

Dana asks the losers to leave the gym. Antwain Britt broke his hand and is sent home, allowing Eliot Marshall to end up in the house.

This Season: 16 survived but some might be too hurt to continue. ANDERSON SILVA SHOWS UP AND DANCES~! People fight, people drink, someone should have been kicked off the show three times. "This aint Survivor and shit, ‘lets vote them off.' You fucking beat them off….that didn't sound good did it?" says Dana. This season is already my favorite based on that line and Anderson Silva dancing.

Show Comments: Nothing of real note on this show. No one really stood out as far as personality and no fight was amazing. I already love Mir and Nog as coaches because they really seem to care about the fighters before they're even on teams. The highlight package for this season looked good but they always do. Should be another fun season.

I don't think I've seen anyone nearly as passionate about the fights as Mir is, with the exception of maybe Serra.

I think Mir will be an excellent coach.

I liked Dana poking fun at Mir and Nog calling the HW division "lethargic and boring to watch"
