Tonight’s M-1 Challenge proved one thing. Holland owns Germany in MMA!
411's M-1 Challenge Holland vs. Germany Report 9.26.08
-Apparently there are 10-teams overall (two Russian teams), and this is round two/the second event: Holland vs. Germany.
-We get a video package, showing France upsetting the Russian Red Devil team.
-They have brought together the best-mixed martial artists from Holland, US, Japan, Spain, France, Finland, South Korea, Germany, The Russian Legion, and The Russian Red Devils. One country will reign supreme.
-There are two, five-minute rounds. There is one overtime round of there is a tie, three judges scoring the fights. No kicking or kneeing to the head of a grounded opponent, and no elbow strikes to the head or throat.
-France beat the Red Devil team in an upset, 3-2 in the first match-up from block A. This will be the first match–up from block B.
Lightweight Bout – Sven Wegscheider (4-1) (Germany) vs. Bogdan Cristea (3-1-1) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: They touch and both throw heavy to begin. Cristea rocks Wegscheider, staggers him back and they clinch. Slam by Cristea, right into side control and then rolls into a guillotine. Cristea sits back as Wegscheider tries to punch his way out. Wegscheider pulls out, to the feet but Cristea takes him down once again. Wegscheider pulls guard and Cristea stands, delivers leg kicks to Wegscheider. Wegscheider gets stood up, jab by Cristea, combo follows and then a looping left. Straight left jab by Cristea, they clinch and then separate. Another good combo by Cristea, Cristea snaps the jab in there and lands another combo. High kick by Cristea lands, combo again and is picking Wegscheider apart. Body kick to Wegscheider, jab and an overhand left by Cristea. He rocks Wegscheider with another left and gets a knee, combo follows and Wegscheider has no answer. Wegscheider is bleeding over the left eye, he just covers up and takes his beating like a little brother. And the fight is stopped.
THE RESULT: Bogdan Cristea via RD1 TKO (Holland is up 1-0.)
Welterweight Bout – Franco de Leonardis (10-2) (Germany) vs. Romano de los Reyes (7-5-2) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: They touch and here we go. Leg kick by Reyes, they clinch and Leonardis pulls Reyes down, up and Reyes SLAMS Leonardis into guard, rocks Leonardis with 3-4 shots and that is all! Leonardis was out there for a moment, but is ok.
THE RESULT: Romano de los Reyes via RD1 TKO (Holland is up 2-0.)
Middleweight Bout – Daniel Weichel (16-3) (Germany) vs. Jason Jones (9-2) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: And here we go with fight #3. Germany needs the win here, Jones with the low kick, takes Weichel down and delivers an illegal knee as Weichel was on one knee. Weichel got rocked badly, and gets attended too. On the replay the knee hit the arm and not the head. Jones gets the decision even though the knee was illegal. Um, ok.
THE RESULT: Jason Jones via RD1 TKO (Holland is up 3-0.)
Light Heavyweight Division – Steve Mensing (9-5-2) (Germany) vs. Gegard Mousasi (19-2-1) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: Mousasi has an 11lb weight advantage. Jabs by Mensing, kick by Mousasi and then a push kick. Another leg kick, combo follows and then a jab. Mensing shoots, but Mousasi with a great throw and they go to the ropes. They get restarted in the middle of the ring, Mousasi in half guard and Mensing works for a guillotine but Mousasi with good knees. Side control by Mousasi, elbows to the ribs of Mensing. Mousasi into mount now and he rains down with rights and lefts, Mensing covers up and eats a ton of punches and it is stopped.
THE RESULT: Gegard Mousasi via RD1 TKO (Holland is up 4-0.)
Heavyweight Bout – Alexander Murawski (4-0) (Germany) vs. Jessie Gibbs (7-1) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: Gibbs comes in with a 60lb weight advantage. Jesus. And here we go! They touch and Murawski catches a kick, combo answers that and Murawski in with another combo to counter some kicks by Gibbs. A right by Murawski, Gibbs catches him with a kick and backs him off. Gibbs takes Murawski down, side control already and Murawski holds on but Gibbs is doing nothing right now. Gibbs gets full mount, hooks in and gets the arm triangle and that is all as Murawski taps.
THE RESULT: Jessie Gibbs via RD1 Submission (Clean sweep for Holland, 5-0)
Super-Fight – Light heavyweight Bout– Bruno Carvalho (3-2) (Brazil) vs. Dave Danglish (34-6) (Holland):
ROUND ONE: Danglish has a 13lb weight advantage. Carvalho gets a takedown, right into a leg lock. He then gets the back of Danglish, has the hooks in and tries to lock in the choke. No choke as Danglish is out of that, rights by Carvalho, back to the choke try. He doesn't have Danglish flattened, but he basically turtles up. Soft strikes by Carvalho, better strikes now and works again for the choke. Carvalho transitions to the arm bar, Danglish fights, triangle by Carvalho with hammer fists from the bottom. Danglish escapes, into the guard and they get too into the ropes, pulled back and now they are back to action. Danglish to his feet and allows Carvalho to stand. BIG knee by Danglish, a big right drops Carvalho and that is all!
THE RESULT: Dave Danglish via RD1 TKO
Super-Fight – Welterweight Bout – Memet Uygun (6-2) (Belgium) vs. Oktay Karatas (12-2-1) (Turkey):
ROUND ONE: They touch and Uygun with a leg kick. An overhand right follows and then another leg kick. A solid combo by Uygun, big takedown after a good kick by Karatas. Uygun into the guard of Karatas, sweet escape by Karatas and they separate. Leg kick by Uygun, but a big right by Karatas. Great combo follows, leg kick and a combo off of that for Karatas. Uygun fires back, gets the takedown and into full mount. They are too into the ropes, they get pulled center, and back to action as Karatas rolls, arm bar try by Uygun fails and Karatas unloads from the guard. Uygun up, leg kick by Karatas, big right lands as well. Leg kick and combo by Karatas, he takes him down, into side control, they get restarted due to being in the ropes and Uygun looks tired. Big knee by Karatas as Uygun escaped. They trade rights, good left uppercut by Uygun and then the jab lands. Push kick by Karatas, misses a wild combo but then gets a combo that backs Uygun off. Karatas is controlling as Uygun looks tired. Clean overhand rights by Karatas land as the round ends.
SCORECARD:: Karatas overcame the early trouble to dominate the round and should take it 10-9, no problem.
ROUND TWO: Round two begins and leg kicks by Uygun. Karatas with the body kick answers, leg kick follows and then another body kick and they both land a right hand. Karatas gets Uygun down, into the guard of Uygun and Karatas lands body shots. Karatas avoids an arm bar, back standing and an uppercut by Uygun and then a knee strike. Uygun shoots, gets stuffed but then gets the guillotine! Karatas taps.
THE RESULT: Memet Uygun via RD2 Submission
They give us a recap of the night's action, and round three with be Finland vs. South Korea.
