Posted by Jeremy Lambert on 10.08.2008
It's the Junie Browning show on this weeks Ultimate Fighter. Junie gets drunk, wants to fight everyone, throws stuff in the pool, and still wants to fight everyone. Plus Shane battles Efrain in the first 155 fight.
The Ultimate Fighter 8
Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir
Episode 4
They bring the TV in so everyone can watch UFC 84. The only fight highlights they show are Machida schooling Ortiz and Penn jabbing Sherk. Junie and Shane begin drinking heavily. Junie begins taunting Team Nog. Kyle throws peanuts at Junie, Junie throws wine and a glass at Kyle. Junie thinks he's going to get kicked out for throwing glass and cutting Kyle. Instead of calming down though, he's ready to fight anyone in the house. Shane now ready to fight anyone and shoves someone out of their chair. Efrain laughs at him so he gets shoved. Shane and Junie go downstairs to drink more. They begin throwing everything not tied down into the pool. Junie and Kryz begin to bump chests and Junie asks to be hit. Things calm down a bit until Junie jumps in the pool and Kryz throws his clothes in the pool with him. Kryz fesses up throwing Junie's clothes in the pool. They exchange "you're a bitch" comments. Ryan throws Junie's clothes back in the pool. Junie and Ryan tumble into the pool. They're pulled out and Junie kicks Ryan down. Things calm down and Junie goes to bed. I expected a lot more from that segment.
DANA WHITE ENTERS THE HOUSE~! And his voice is completely gone, which makes sense considering this would be a day after UFC 84 where he spent the entire night partying and celebrating the exit and loss of Tito Ortiz. "Junie, what the fuck is wrong with you?" are the first words out of his mouth. Junie admits that he has a drinking problem. Dana says Shane vs. Efrain will be in the first 155 fight. He doesn't kick anyone off the show. "Quit acting like fucking retards" are the final words from Dana. Words to live by for everyone.
The fight announcement is pretty anti-climatic as Nog announces Shane is going to fight Efrain. Everyone likes that Shane is going to get a chance to back up his words. If you close your eyes and listen to Shane talk, you'll think it's BJ Penn. Without the talent. Nog thinks Efrain will win with a guillotine choke.
Junie thinks it's going to be Team Mir vs. Team Mir in the finals. He tells Efrain that the only way he's beating Shane is if he lays and prays fro 15 minutes. Shane says that he rolled with Junie and submitted him. Junie wants Efrain to try and submit him now.
They keep showing sneak peeks of upcoming video games during and commercials and considering this show is pulling less than a million viewers as of late, it's probably not the best idea to plug these video games. They sure beat watching that Chris Brown doublemint commercials 2 million times though.
Mir likes this fight for his team. He thinks Shane is better than Efrain at every aspect accept wrestling. Both guys weigh in at 156 lbs. Junie doesn't like that Efrain smirks.
Lightweight Fight: Shane Nelson (Team Mir) vs. Efrain Escudero (Team Nogueira)
Fight Recap: Most of the first round was all on the feet with Efrain landing the better shots. Efrain scored a takedown with about a minute left and controlled him on the ground the rest of the round, never really landing anything significant. Efrain scored a takedown early in the second held him there for a couple of minutes. Shane went for a knee bar that allowed him to get on top. He held him there for about a minute and then Efrain caught him in a triangle. He ended up with the mounted triangle and Shane tapped out.
Junie says Efrain is a boring wrestler so Efrain smiles at him. Junie ends up jumping into the cage and going after Efrain has his team holds him back and the show ends.
Next Week: The fallout from Junie jumping into the Octagon and ANDERSON SILVA IS A GUEST TRAINER~!
Show Comments: I was really looking forward to this episode and when it was over I felt letdown. The Junie house rampage was nothing like it was built up to being and since that consumed most of the show, the only thing left was the fight, which bored me for the most part. Next week interests me because I want to see if Junie is kicked off the show and Anderson Silva as a guest trainer can be nothing but awesomeness.
Yeah they pulled a MASSIVE bait-and-switch on this one. Last week they showed clips of Dana going "you should've already been kicked off before" (obviously talking to Junie, all of us knew that last week) then that scene was AWOL this week.
I loved Junie in the premiere, his cocky attitude had me cracking up. "These guys all came here to get a free Tapout shirt." Now look at him. A drunk hoosier with a short fuse and (sorry Matt Brown) a "small man" complex.
I hope they don't dick around next week and draw out his 'boot' but I'm sure they will. They'll turn a 2 minute scene into a 47 minute show (not counting commercials). Go get some help, you obviously need it.

I personally think that people should watch the spiketv clip they have in their site that had more of Junie Browning chaos. Him almost punching Bader and all that fun stuff. I personally think that this eps was good but they promoted the wrong way. Junie Browning thing can't be shown in one day. Its build layer on layers. This eps shows Juine alienated on the house basically (him playing basketball by himself). The next eps shows him alienated Frank Mir and his couching staff too. So...CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE NEXT EPS.

Kryz said in his blog that they didn't show it, but a group of the guys (including him) in the house decided they wanted to push Junie's buttons to the point he'd snap and fight one of them as a means to getting him kicked out of the house.

Plus the fifteen five-minute video game previews that ate up half the time.

Looks like every season has a douchebag - and in a way, this season needs it, given that there is very little drama going on between the coaches. But the sad part is that one of these years - assuming they still do season 9 and onwards, one of the 'house douchebags' really goes haywire and hurts someone in the house. Junie already came close. The guy can't control himself, drunk or sober.
Dana talking about giving the contestants alcohol to let them relax is BS. They're getting the guys drunk to get this BS drama that is one day going to get someone hurt. I don't buy for one second that they didn't know Junie was potential trouble when they brought him in for the qualifiers.
As for the fight - I'm rooting for both Mir's team and Mir himself, but it seems that either Nog has better talent or he is a better coach. More power to him.

well...I dunno.
I have a lot of mutual friends with Junie.
Theres no excuse for how he acts.
They are putting these guys in a house with no TV, No Computer, no Phone, No magazines....but all the alcohol they want? wtf.
This has been the Junie Browning show so far, he's on every segment of every show.

The house stuff can be chalked up to a drinking problem, but flipping out post-fight, when sober - NO EXCUSE.
Chris Leben is a good example of someone who let the booze affect him in the house, while he otherwise came off as a decent guy. By all accounts he is now clean, and has gone on to have a solid career.
I wonder if stocking the place with alcohol is a means of evaluation. This is one of very few instances where the UFC has a chance to view if guys have outside issues that could affect them in their career.
Considering many UFC fighters have had careers permanently or temporarily de-railed by substance abuse, it may serve the purpose of finding it out.
In the cases of Leben and Jesse Taylor, the TUF-drunkeness has reportedly served as a wake up call. Of course neither of those guys appears to be a psychopath like Junie appears to be.

Annnnnnnd this is the point that I got uncomfortable watching Junie. I'm not sure if I want to watch anymore of a guy who is obviously an alcohol and it almost seems to be taking advantage of the fact that he is that way to create television.
I know Junie chooses to drink but it appears that the UFC chooses to help facilitate that.
