*** The fighter with the most cumulative points becomes our Prizefighter of the Month. New point values are then assigned to each combatant in the top 5, which count towards the tally for Prizefighter of the Year. Those point values are:
Let's get Retar .I mean, Let's Get it Started! (don't you just love PC radio versions of songs?!?!)
Patrick Mullin
1) Wladimir Klitschko - Wlad completely and utterly dominated arguably the best heavyweight in the world without the last name Klitschko. You're hard-pressed to find a better performance against that level of opposition in the last five years, let alone this month. Wlad is the goods, love him or hate him.
2) Miguel Cotto - Against an opponent who pushed him, what did Cotto do? He pushed back! Fighting through a horrible cut, he showed championship caliber heart and dominated the last half of the fight against top welterweight Joshua Clottey to keep his belt and annex Clottey's.
3) Robert Guerrero - Hoping to erase the memories of him quitting to see his last bout end in a no contest, a motivated Guerrero battered tough veteran Efren Hinojosa until it was deemed Hinojosa was not fit to take more punishment. Guerrero was a total 180 from his last bout, as he was not only motivated, but crisp and sharp throughout.
4) Juan Manuel Lopez - Juanma's usual aggressive and power punching style proved too much for overmatched Olivier Lontchi. Juanma's constant stream of power punching is a sight to behold and not many will hold up against it.
5) Jorge Arce - Jorge was looking to make a statement coming off of his loss to Vic Darchinyan. He did it by blasting out overmatched Fernando Lumacad in just three rounds. Vic was angry and made Lumacad pay for stepping in the ring with him.
Mr. Ramon
1 - Miguel Cotto - Though not as clear cut a win as he was hoping for, Cotto still took home the 'W' against a talented and rugged Joshua Clottey who would've given anyone at 147 pounds trouble that night.
2 - Juan Manuel Lopez - Another solid win for Juanma who thoroughly dominated Lontchi in Atlantic City. Lopez, who just turned 26 looks to have the goods and his unbeaten streak continues.
3 - Wladimir Klitschko - Yeah so it wasn't exciting but his win over Ruslan Chagaev, a credible former heavyweight titlist was pretty one sided and he proved how dominant and effective he can be with little effort.
4 - Arthur Abraham - He picked up another win on Saturday with a one-sided beating and King Arthur continues to roll. When will he get Pavlik though?
5 - Marcos Maidana - He exposed the highly touted Victor Ortiz in an exciting shootout. Ortiz seemed to have the upper hand but Maidana was all heart, rallying back to upset 'Vicious' Vic. This may be a more defining loss for Ortiz than a defining win for Maidana but the Argentinean showed he's not one to play with at 140.
Ali Shakoor
1 - Miguel Cotto - Probably his second best performance after the Mosley fight. Showed a lot of heart and determination. He's a legit star, and the Margarito defeat is further in the rearview mirror.
2 - Wladimir Klitschko - Showed a lot of class in preserving the June 20th date for fans and promoters. Won every second of every round against a legit top-five heavyweight and stopped him. You can't ask for anything more.
3 - Joshua Clottey - He made himself a lot of money with this loss. He came really close to upsetting Cotto, and proved to be a top 5 fighter in boxing's most talented division. If he would have just stepped on the gas a tad in the middle rounds, he'd be the WBO welterweight champ. Some believe he won anyway.
4 - Juan Manuel Lopez - The kid keeps rolling along with his dominant offensive skills. He made a tough fighter quit.
5 - Jorge Arce - After being destroyed by Darchinyan and looking possibly washed up, he rebounded with a great third round knockout of a decent enough of a fighter. The old warrior put himself right back in the title mix at 115 and saved his career as a relevant fighter.

1 - Miguel Cotto It wasn't so much that he beat Joshua Clottey, but what he went through to do it. After suffering an awful cut early in the bout, Cotto could have easily packed his bags and taken a no contest or a technical decision win. Instead, Cotto fought through the blood and traded blows with one of the best welterweight competitors out there for 12 awesome rounds. The round 6 onslaught in the corner gave me chills, and was probably the bravest moment of his career.
2 Wladimir Klitschko Love em or hate em...and yes, I lean towards the hate-side the man has fully established himself as the world's premier heavyweight. Ruslan Chagev's fight-cred may have been a bit fraudulent, but either way, Wlad took an unbeaten former champ and completely toyed with him until he had no choice but to quit. As much as I'd like to see somebody knock Klitschko's block off, I don't see it happening anytime in the near future.
3 Juan Manuel Lopez The kid known as "JuanMa" just keeps on truckin'!!! Following his stoppage victory over unbeaten Oliver Lontchi, he is now 5-0 with 5 KO wins in world title bouts. The news of a possible bout with Cuban sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa next year is an exciting prospect. It's the ultimate puncher vs. boxer scenario, and should be a break-out bout for the victor.
4 Arthur Abraham We'll call this #4 ranking a lifetime achievement award for being the 2nd/3rd best middleweight belt-holder over the past 5 years. Congrats on defense #10 ..now man-up and fight somebody who will fight back!
5 Marcos Maidana Was Marcos that tough, or was Ortiz that soft? This question will be asked over and over until the inevitable rematch, but either way, Maidana became a big-time player at 140 with his stoppage win over Golden Boy's Golden Boy.
