15 Minutes of Fame 02.06.10: So Random a Title Doesn't Even Fit
Posted by Ryan Bates on 02.06.2010
Floyd, Jorge, Nonito, Campillo, Golden Boy.... they all make an appearance.
These 15 Minutes are tinged with a touch of insomnia, so I took to doing this instead of listening to Jillian Barberie prattle on during the Fox Morning News.
It's 5:45am... START THE CLOCK!
-- So the big fight is signed, Mayweather/Mosley. Hooray! Now let's see if it actually goes down. Oh, don't give me lip on that one... As long as Floyd's involved there's always a chance the fight falls through.
-- My prediction? Shane Mosley. By points, by knockout, by baseball bat to the head. I don't care how he does it, as long as he does it.
-- Nonito Donaire wants to fight Juan Manuel Lopez? I can't even wrap my head around that yet. It sounds like he's pretty content to clean out the division first, but Donaire at featherweight? I guess I'd have to see it to pass judgment.
-- Speaking of Donaire, did you see that Las Vegas training footage? That was cool. I've never put together a flim thing together. JayPea, I'M COMIN' FOR YA!!!
-- Hey, make sure you watch the fights tonight on Fox Sports Whatever. Brandon Rios is in for a big test against Jorge "The Truth" Teron. Rios has never been in with someone with the experience of the six-foot-tall lightweight.
Wait, let me repeat that. SIX FOOT TALL, no heavier than 130. I think I've eaten submarine sandwiches that are bigger than Teron. PLUS he's a southpaw. Hm. Have fun with that, Rios! It will definitely be on Fox Sports Espanol, but check your local listings for other Fox Sports Affiliates.
-- Wow, it's a slow week in boxing when it's hard to fill 15 minutes worth of notes.
-- I wrote about the Golden Boy mess back in December and said it needed to clean up its act muy pronto. Then this Shumeinov/Campillo fight came along. Well if that certainly wasn't a step in the right direction.
-- With all this Golden Boy shame coming along, is it just me, or does anyone feel boxing's Cold War flaring back up? I'm sure Bob Arum is still pissed at Golden Boy for letting Floyd walk away from the uber-ultra-mega-bout. And no one hates having their time wasted more than Bob Arum. It could be quite some time before we see any cross-promoted cards for a while.
STOP THE CLOCK! It's 6am! And that means I'm going to try to hit the sack. Good night everybody!!!
