The TKO victory last Saturday night gave Humberto Soto the desire to ask promoter Zanfer and Top Rank for bigger fights at lightweight, where he will jump to in hopes of landing a fight against Edwin Valero or any other of the top fighters at 135 pounds.
Soto had some issues with Canadian Benoit Gaudet but more so because of his mobility than his offense - something that took away his ability to box and look for the knockout. Soto said that he had hurt his hands during the final portion of the fight and that had it not been for Gaudet going down, he would've had problems landing hard shots with three rounds to go.
"I owe it all to my corner because they told me what to do and that's how we ended up with the result we got. I applaud Gaudet because he's a good fighter but on this night, I was the winner," said Soto after his bout.
The native of Los Mochis, MX made the second defense of his WBC junior featherweight title after making his first only 45 days ago against Antonio Davis in Tijuana.
"I'll have a chat with my promoter and my team to see if we'll stay at junior lightweight or move up to lightweight so we can pursue some bigger fights against the top fighters," added Soto.
Humberto landed 159 punches out of 443 while 109 of those were power punches. Gaudet for his part landed only 111 shots out of the 500 he threw.
