Nacho Beristain Confident of His Fighter
Posted by Salvador Rodriguez on 05.11.2009

There are many factors that can be disadvantages for Juan Manuel Marquez when he faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. : the weight, their age, and the speed difference between the two; however the boxing community in Mexico, believe Marquez can shock the world when they face off on July 18 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Nacho Beristáin, trainer of the lightweight champion says Marquez should head into the fight inspired to beat Mayweather, although his boxing skills should give 'Money' plenty of problems.

"It's all a matter of being focused, having discipline - against Manny Pacquiao he showed a lot and beating Mayweather is not impossible. Juan Manuel should take advantage of Floyd's inactivity. It's true that both fighters have great technique but if Marquez shows up unintimidated, he's going to win," said Tiburcio Garcia, who trained Jose Luis Castillo for his two fights against Floyd (many felt Castillo won their first bout).

For others, like Erik Morales, the weight could be a big advantage for Mayweather. "Although I see it being very difficult, I still think Marquez could suprise him; I'd love for it to happen. He's a fighter who's worked very hard to get where he is today and it would be great for him and for boxing in Mexico if he beat him, but Mayweather is a natural welterweight and he's a natural junior lightweight. If he can overcome the weight differential, he could win," said Morales.

Finally, his brother Rafael, the two time world champ reiterated that the weight shouldn't be a problem for his brother. "I don't think it will be a factor as both of them are around the same height and that should make a difference. I think the experience of my brother can help him gain this victory," noted Marquez.

I hope Marquez will upset PBF. But I see this fight going to happens like what Juanma did to Jerry Penalosa.

Good luck JMM beat Floyd and face Pacman, you can beat floyd by pretending you fighting Pacman, look forward for the next fight,,,

Yeah, even though my logic goes to Mayweather, my sentimental favorite is Marquez. It would be great if he can be the first to finally shut up the Pretty Boy.

much as i am a fan of pacquiao, i'd love to see jmm beating floyd jr as this will give him the opportunity to fight pacquiao for the trilogy!!

even if i don't like on both fihgters for their arrogance, i still love a jmm victory to finally shut the Mayweathers. besides it will give jmm a chance to fight "pacman" again, which he could never win.

We wanted our Pacman to shut these (Floyd,Sr. & Jr.) bigmouths up. But, since JMM has the privilege of meeting Floyd, Jr. first, JMM would do us a great favor if he could knock this guy cold, so he and his equally infamous father (bigmouth Floyd, Jr. & Sr.) would permanently stop talking.

i'd love to see them fight but not d way as roach have predicted. i think if they love d sports then they should be doing what they can do to make the fight more exciting and besides they have to prove to themselves that they are at the level of the Pacman. Meaning that whoever wins (in an emphatic fashion) will be the rightful foe of the current p4p king.

The Mayweathers are no dumb dumb, I believe on Roach when he said Floyd just won't engage when they fight (pacman & Floyd) same thing with Marquez. The fight will go distance and the result will depend on the morons... I'm sorry, the judges.

i don't think marquez can beat mayweather.yeah JMM gave pacquiao (who is more or less same speed with floyd) a hard time but that's because his counterpunching is erfect for pacman's agressiveness.but against a bigger, defensive fighter like mayweather he has a snowball's chance in hell

It would be great if JMM beats PBF come July. We get to see PBF shamefully shut-upped and then be treated to a PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ Trilogy after that. So we can finally know if JMM really has what it takes to take-down MP! Yey! Happy Days!

It is somehow uncool for the team Pacquiao to slip the chance of being the first boxer to kick the butt or worst to KOed this loudmouth Gayweather. Hope JMM knock Jr out cold so that there will be a sure Pac v. JMM trilogy. Then Pac will completely close the story of JMM by KO within 6....

its a draw hahah

I've watched JMM fight twice in both fights against MP. I am Filipino, but I believe that Pacquiao would have lost had he not but Marquez on his seat in both fights. Good thing he has KO power. I hope JMM wins, then we finally get to see MP-JMM III.

JMM goodluck and we the filipino people are on your side on this fight and after you knock-out BIG MOUTH FLOYD JR. we love to watch a 3rd fight to Manny.

i dont like both boxers but id like marquez to win so that the mayweathers will only have themselves to convince they're great.

I'm no fan of Marquez but the Mayweathers possess an unusual ability to get into people's nerves, and I'm no exception. Although I would want Marquez to win this and embarrass the Fraud, I really couldn't see him beating the gorilla. But there's good news for somebody that might want to see the fight -- the promoters will be giving away something extra for every ticket you buy, and this is a choice of one of these two items -- a pillow or a 500mg caffeine tablet. If you'll ask me, I want both of 'em to win because I want Pacquiao to get both of these dancing masters.

the slick, faster, and quicker will win! Floyd will dance all night long to trap JMM to his dance. That's how Gayweather does perfect. I think it will be easy for PBF

jmm will win, fraud maywather is suspect to a constant jab. On top of that jmm will adjust midway and has excellent timing. jmm ko round 12. ViVa DINAMITA !!!he got this.
