Murray Fails To Make Weight!

Murray also loses his British title.

British lightweight champion John Murray has failed to make the weight for his title defence against Scott Lawton in Wigan tomorrow night and has been stripped of his title by the BBBofC. Although the belt is now vacant, Lawton can still claim the title if he defeats Murray tomorrow night.

So boxing strips the guy for 1 night ? Due to him failing to make weight ?

yet he can obtain it back if he wins ?

So basically if he loses he really has lost nothing cause the gay boxing commission has in fact already stripped him of something he never ever truly lost to begin with ?

You might want to re-read the article since it states that LAWTON can still win the title if he is the winner. It does not state that Murray will regain the title if he wins.

Exactly..
And despite my love for MMA I have to admit, had this happened in the UFC the challenger would have been screwed as it would become a non title fight just because the champ failed to make weight.

It happened in the WEC with Paulo Filho Vs Chael Sonnen.

yea this is the first time ive heard someone being stripped of a title for not making weight?!

what ive typically heard in these types of situations is that the fight would become a non title match just as samer mentioned.
