Big Update On Pacquiao vs. Cotto

Latest on payday, weight, and more...
Trainer Freddie Roach recently told Fightnews.com that Manny Pacquiao deserves 70% of the payday in a fight against Miguel Cotto. Coach noted that Cotto doesn't have a history of delivering PPV buys like Pacquiao does. Cotto's best remains 425,000 buys for his fight against Antonio Margarito while Pacquiao did 1.25 million buys for his fight against Oscar De La Hoya and nearly 1 million buys for his fight against Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao's lawyer Franklin Gacal has already said that Pacquiao won't accept less than a 65%/35% split with Cotto.
Roach also agreed to 144-145 catchweight.
Promoter Bob Arum says that the fight will happen at the MGM Grand but probably not on the date Pacquiao wants, October 17th, due to competition with the World Series.
"We've told Manny about fighting on that date, and not on Oct. 17, because of the World Series," Arum said. "You can't compete with free TV and baseball is big among Puerto Ricans. We'll be charging $50 for them to watch us and we can't compete with free television."
Arum has given Pacquiao associate Mike Koncz the proposal for Pacquiao and Gacal to review next week. Arum said the proposal is "very fair" to both parties.
Arum wants to finalize the deal by the end of the month so he can start promoting the fight with Pacquiao and Cotto doing promotional pushes in New York and Puerto Rico.
Cotto deserves 40%. I love Manny, but those previous PPV buys have much to do with DelaHoya and Hatton as opponents. He certainly deserves the "lion's share" as the pound-for-pound king, but 30-35% is a tad insulting to Cotto IMHO. Again, I love Manny, but there is always drama when he goes to the bargaining table. Maybe he's starting here with the hopes of getting to 60-40 in a fair compromise. BTW, I don't think a Mayweather/Pacman fight will ever happen unless they come close to a 50-50 split. Both guys are so dang prideful in dealing with contracts.

65% to 35%, cotto will be a fool to sign on the dotted line for that one. 4o to 6o is fair, pacs people are trying to rape cotto. Im soooo sick and tired of pacquiao, he clearly lost to jmm. I pray that cotto knocks that lil bitch out.

Maybe he's doing this so the fight won't take place which leaves the door open to a bigger draw...Sugar Shane Mosely...just a thought

If I remember correctly, when Pacquiao fought DLH, there was a percentage of the purse reserved for the winner of the fight. So they can go 65-30 with 5% left for the winner or even go with a different number. Part of me is scared though that all this is posturing to get a mega payday fight last minute with Mayweather.

PCM only took 30% against DLH. PCM took 52% against HTN. Two superstars destroyed by PCM. Too me he should get 60% or more. Or Cotto could go on and get 1 mil here and there getting his face bashed in and risk of losing a fight or get 6 -10 mil on one fight. I'd take a lower percentage and possibly winning the fight against PCM and get paid a big pay day with it. Cotto is going to be on CENTER stage in one night in boxing where 200 million or more is watching him. If there is a defining moment for Cotto, this is it. Don;t fret with money becuase he's going to get the biggest pay day yet. PCM took alot of chances going up in weight and fought the best the past 5-6 years and he did it with excitment. If Cotto doesn't take this deal, he's a fool.

First Maywaether and now Pacquiao believe that they're PPV draws after facing Hatton and De La Hoya. Hatton and De La Hoya could box me and do mega PPV numbers.

I agree somewhat with FP.. this is Cottos biggest fight yet so surely he'd be earning more against Pacquiao than any of his previous bouts. 35% cut doesnt seem right though. True, Pacquiao is the bigger draw due to the P4P status but if Pacquiao wants to use another larger fighter in Cotto as a stepping stone to a possible Mosley or Mayweather bout, at least be a bit more fair about the split! 35% of the split for Cotto just doesnt seem fair. Either way, Id much rather witness a mosley vs pac fight over this.. Arum must be the only reason Pac even agreed to this fight with Cotto.

Cotto should sign caused when he beats the living hell out Pacquiao and retired him he could go in peace and im pretty shored that Cotto ‘s next fight will be a bigger Payday and he will be known as the pound for pound king and in my opinion this is what is fu@#$%$ the sport of boxing people getting greedy and not making the great fights happen

Well, Manny deserves 65%. He makes boxing alive and kicking. He is currently the face of boxing and whoever rose to the top of the P4P ranking will do the same thing.
You guys should shut up and be quiet. Let the boxer do their thing.
