Maidana Stops Ortiz in the 6th round via TKO in a thriller from the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
In the main event of the evening light welterweights Victor Ortiz(24-2-1,19KO'S) from Oxnard, California and Argentinean knock out artist Marcos Maidana (26-1,25 KO'S) engaged in a firefight for the ages that thrilled everyone in attendance at the Staples Center in Los Angeles as well as on TV. In the end Maidana survived three hard knockdowns to stop Ortiz.
Both fighters were down in the first round, first Maidana from the left hand then Ortiz from the right hand. Ortiz seemed to be more hurt from the knock down. Ortiz dropped Maidana again in the second with a crushing right hook and dropped him again with a straight left at the end of the second, but ran out of time. Even though violence continued, the fight leveled off in rounds three and four. Maidana took over the action and landed some devastating right hands that hurt Ortiz as well as a booming left hook that created a cut. In the 6th Maidana jumped out like a bull out of the shoot for a bull fight, he continued to batter Ortiz who looked in a lot of trouble catching punishment Ortiz went down from a body shot, he got up, but looked like he did not want to be there. Referee Raul Caiz Sr. started the count, and then he saw a huge welt on Ortiz's right eye that was caused by a right hand. He immediately called the doctor and the bout was stopped at 46 seconds of round number six and Maidana announced a winner by technical knock out.
"It was a bad cut, "said Caiz Sr. afterwards:" The kid could not continue." But more than a cut, Maidana seemed to have broken the will of Victor Ortiz."It's all my fault," conceded dejected Ortiz: "They told me in the corner how to fight him. Tonight the better man won."

In the opening bout light middleweight Sergio De Ala Torre (11-11-3, 1KO) from Escondido, California and Jaime Orrantia (11-23-5, 3 KO'S) from Los Mochis, Mexico fought to a majority draw over four hard fought rounds. Score were 38-38, 38-38 and 39-37 for De La Torre.

Undefeated lightweight from Cincinnati, Ohio Adrian Broner (10-0,7KO) continued to shine outclassing his opponent from Perth, Australia William Kickett (15-2,5KO) in bout scheduled for eight rounds. First three rounds were very competitive, but in a fourth Kickett walked into a quick check hook and went down. Broner‘s speed started to show from that point on. By the 6th Broner was connecting crisp shots with frightening regularity. He ended matters decisively with another sharp left hook at 2; 58 of the sixth stanza. Referee Jose Cobian looked at dazed Kickett on the canvass and decided to dispense with the count.

Lightweights Mike Perez (3-0-1,2KO'S) from Cincinnati, Ohio and Thomas Herrera (2-2-1) from Tucson, Arizona engaged in an entertaining four round brawl. After the dust settled, judges scored it 40-36, 40-36, 39-37 for Perez.

Undefeated middleweight contender from Scotland Craig McEwan (16-0, 9 KO'S) found himself in a life and death struggle against a veteran journeyman Darnell Boone (16-11-2,6KO'S). Surprisingly Boone's slow looping punches found its mark on the face of the Scotsman. After eight tough rounds judges decided for McEwan by split decision.
Hey Mr. ramon aranda, what happened to ur boy ortiz, what a shame. He really is a good humble kid, met him once in olvera street. I feel that the spotlight was too much for him, heres an idea why not go to freddy roach? The kid had no defence and didnt throw any jabs. I still feel he can beat khan.
