Shaw, Darchinyan Talk Donaire
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 06.30.2009

On a conference call today, both Vic Darchinyan and promoter Gary Shaw talked candidly about Nonito Donaire. Donaire as we all know shocked the world when he knocked out Darchinyan in July of 2007 for the IBF flyweight title. Since then, Darchinyan has become a more complete fighter, taking out the likes of Jorge Arce and Cristian Mijares in the process. Still, fans have been clamoring for a rematch between the two and although Gary Shaw has expressed on camera that he won't reward Donaire with a rematch after their highly publicized split, it now seems as though he's open to it if the money's right.

"Vic fights for money, not for revenge!" exclaimed Shaw today. Shaw sited that Vic has been in the ring against better known fighters while Donaire (21-1, 14 KOs) who has racked up 3 wins in a row since that fight remains off the spotlight. According to Shaw, if a seven figure payday could be secured, they'd be willing to travel to the Philippines to stage the fight - where it could be a huge draw.

Darchinyan for his part acknowledges that he fought a stupid fight against Donaire but vows to "demolish him" in a rematch. At the same time, he also credits Donaire for making him into a more disciplined and improved fighter. Since that loss, Darchinyan has used better boxing skills while still demonstrating the knockout power he's possessed throughout his career.

Vic says the loss was good for him because it made him a better fighter and more people wanted to fight him. "I'm going to demolish him in a rematch."

Donaire on the other hand recently stopped Raul Martinez back in April in defense of his title and is now slated to fight at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas in August.

Let's just hope a return match can be put together while there's plenty of interest.

Yes, I believe and trust Vic, that at the ramatch Vic will insert his little one into ninito's mom's rear. That monkey couldn't beat Karen Harutunyan, how would on. Believe that he can actually beat Darchinyan? During Harutunyan vs donaire fight, Harutunyan got him against the robe and pounded his ass with left and right and even hadninito's legs buckled in several occasions. Yet Karen Harutunyan is not a hard puncher and certainly can't compare with Vic. Simply Vic knocked himself out by running into a punch. There's no way ninito could produce such a tremendous power from the position he delivered the left hook that toppled Darchinyan. When Darchinyan tried to jump at ninito and ninito all had to do just stick his hand out and Darchinyan ran onto the punch. That's all there was to it.
