Floyd Mayweather Jr. knows that on September 19, he won't be facing just any opponent and not a wrestler either but rather a true gladiator.
That's why, from Las Vegas, Mayweather assures us that against Juan Manuel Marquez, we'll see the return of the real "Number One".
"When I accepted the fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, it was because he was the perfect foe," said Mayweather. "Marquez is ideal because he's a great Mexican fighter, and I didn't want to test myself against an easy opponent and without questions, he's one of the best fighters in the world pound for pound."
Mayweather, who trains roughly about 10 minutes away from the Vegas strip, added that he felt Marquez beat Pacquiao in both of their fights which makes him want to prepare himself even harder.
"Because he's one of boxing's best, I'm training to the fullest," continued Mayweather. "And since I train this hard in general for all of my big fights, I'm doing it again because as far as I'm concerned, Juan beat Pacquiao twice and that tells me I have to take this [fight] serious."
September 19 will mark the first time Mayweather has competed since December 2007 when he knocked out Ricky Hatton in defense of his WBC welterweight title.

Juan beat Pacquiao twice? no no no, marquez and pac man definatly had there wars no doubt, but to say he beat pac man twice is wrong. hes just trying to down play Pacquiao, and trying to make people believe he is the best, he will find things will be very different when he finally meets Pacquiao in the ring, that is if he doesnt duck him like he does all other fighters that threaten his unbeaten record

Mayweather can always say what he can say, just like his father... too much blah-blah!
He can even say Manny was defeated 10 times by Marquez or maybe 100 times, say it, Why not? Crazy people do.

Mayweather downgraded Pacquiao, that Marquez won that fight. He is talking without evidenced at all. We have the best referre in the world at that time. Compubox recorded Pacquiao total punches of 776 against Marquez only 683. In the jabs Pacquiao got a total of 357 while Marquez only 243. In the power punch though Marquez got 440 while Pacquiao is 419 the diffrence is only 21 punch. If u total the overall punches Pacquiao has won. Secondly, the knockdown in the 3rd round and the standing knockdown in the 11th round makes the difference with heavy bombs in the 11th and 12 th rounds. Pacquiao clearly won the fight. Mayweathers upcoming fight with Marquez,is solidly for Marquez to win the fight. He can go down between the 9th to 12 rounds. Mayweathers previous fights is not a convincing wins as he rans almost all the fight. He can not be called a P4P. A true P4P should face his opponents that brings excitement to the boxing fans inside the stadium. He must give a good fight to give back to the people the worth of his money they spend. His shoulder rolls against Marquez will not work as Marquez will punch at all time like a punching machine. We will see Mayweathers defeat in this fight and will have to eat all his words and egos. Its true, Marquez is a good fighter who is now on the no. 2 P4P and he will taste the Mexican punch. This will the downfall of Mayweather. As reviewed of his past fights Castillo won convincingly. He was lucky he won in a reversed decision.

It seems Mayweather is feeling the truth now,the easy Marquez image is registering to his mind now that as real dangerous foe.Could this gives a clue of the fight ,that he will increase his epeed in running? And Marquez will be eveready for his surgical poweful counter punching in the air? What do we have then ?Just asking.

cody, of course PBF will duck pacman! sales after sept. 19 of only 500T PPV compared to at least 1M in nov. 14? PBF will be ashamed of his claim that he is the draw! PBF has ego as big as america! the only thing that pbf, marquez,GB & others to score pacman is belittling him by their comments but not by deeds! most of those guys are racist..u understand that? it's because pacman came from philippines, they can say things they were saying right now. but pac has shown his class that represents filipinos as a whole.

Just to hype his coming boring fight, PBF will always have to namedropped Pacquiao's name just to generate interest. Marquez wins by KO on 9th round and we can see a huge Pacman Vs Marquez on 2010.

Money May is just exercising his freedom of speech. Moreover, he propagates his "pretty" image fitted for a female by going around the bush. Act like a man!

Stupid Mayweather! All he has done is talk, talk and talk. Never-ending talk, The reason why you chose and fight Marquez and announce it on the eve of Pacman VS Hatton fight is just because you are so afraid to face Pacman after he finish business w/ Hatton. You know what your reaction is when you witness Hatton's demolition by Pacman? "Thank Almighty God, I wont have to face the dreaded Pacman in the ring" complete in shivering passion as if you saw a ghost! Mother F....r!!!

Mayweather needs to say Marquez beats Pacquiao twice to justify the lie that the bout between them is "Number One vs Numbero Uno"
Posted By: China Boxing Fan (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 12:43 AM
WTF!! Pacquiao beaten and retired a Jr.Midle weight champ, a Jr. welterweight champ and a lightweight champion while JMM focus his sight on lighweight after their previous meeting, now his better than Pacman? Floyd, wake up man! boxing fans are not that stupid!
Posted By: Rolando NatagaCavite (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 12:47 AM
if Marquez has beaten Pacquiao then Castillo won over Mayweather on their first bout.

Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something
Mayweather is a Fool like his father

i believe manny pacquiao is the fastest hand alive in boxing today
and floyd is the fastest mouth alive,
would u aggree for that..the more floyd talks the more he looks a coward_if he smart floyd should challenge pacquiao after his figth with hatton, why he should talk to much?what ever floyd intention for fighting marquez, paquiao doesnt care about it,if floyd lost to marquez_theres no reason paquiao will fight him coz he cant beat marquez as paquiao beat marquez twice.paquiao much better deserve a rematch for marquez III and that is the biggest more interesting fights of the decade.
floyd should change his carrer as boxing commentator not a boxer bcoz he got another talent.he he

why is mayweather always said that marquez beat pacquiao.. whats the point?
Posted By: charles (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 02:42 AM
mayweather is a douche, but it doesn't change the fact that he is the best. The only man in the world right now that could hang with him is Paul Williams.

Number One/Numero Uno? Whoever gonna watch this fight should bring some pillow or video games. But if you like watching Dancing With The Stars or Track and Field you'll probably enjoy this.
Posted By: Oragon (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 03:27 PM
Yeah Marquez is Numero Uno to kiss the canvass FOUR TIMES against PACMAN.
Posted By: ddixon (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 07:59 PM
pbf will fight an old overweight jmm. pbf is much bigger, quicker & stronger at 143 lbs. pbf by a boring unanimous descision.

"When I accepted the fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, it was because he was the perfect foe," said Mayweather....
perfect for your comeback? so you will be considered again as #1 ? beat pacquiao first, don't measure it by fighting someone beaten by pacquiao
Posted By: daforgotten (Guest) on August 20, 2009 at 11:17 PM
Mayweather doesn't seem to respect the official end result of the Pacquiao-Marquez fights.
Well, people will judge him the same way. No matter what's the outcome of their fight (Mayweather vs Marquez). If Mayweather doesn't knock down Marquez 3 times in a round, he's a loser.
Mayweather even took a long 10 rounds to knock down Hatton who is smaller than him. Yet Manny knocked down Hatton (a bigger guy than Manny) twice in 1st round and finished him off unconscious in 2nd round. Mayweather is just insecure of Manny because he cannot accept that Manny is better than him.

First off, I have to say that I'm not a Marquez fan at all. However, if you don't feel that Marquez won at least one of the fights with Pacquaio then you either didn't watch it or have no clue about boxing. It is very easy to make an argument that Marquez won both times. The only deciding factor was the knock downs. Anyone that has ever laced up gloves knows that a fight is 12 rounnds, not just 3. And should be judeged accordingly.
I think the safe bet is taking Mayweather by decision. I certainly do not and can not count out a warrior like Marquez. For those of you that do, try spending some time in the ring before making unfounded comments.
