Four months later, we still don’t know what substance was in his corner on May 16.

Back in May, Edison Miranda took on Andre Ward in an intriguing matchup at super middleweight in Oakland, CA. It was Ward's biggest test to date and one that he passed with flying colors - putting on a boxing clinic. Still the evening wasn't complete without a little bit of controversy, courtesy of Miranda's team.
Sometime around the 5th round, the onsite inspector for the California State Athletic Commission noticed an unidentified substance inside a brown container that Miranda claims was petroleum jelly. Though trainer Jose Bonilla also claimed later that it was Vaseline, the inspector noted that the substance was darker than regular petroleum jelly and confiscated the bottle from the corner before it was used.
A commission spokesman told the Associated Press days later that the substance had been sent in to be examined and that results could come back as early as one week.
It's now September and we haven't heard a peep so 411mania.com contacted the CSAC to get an update.
Dave Thornton, the Interim Executive Officer of the California State Athletic Commission cooperatively stated to us that:
The bottle that was confiscated was taken to the California Department of Justice Crime Lab for analysis. As of the date of this e-mail we have not received the results of that analysis.
Well so much for a week.
We'll keep you posted on this story as soon as we get a new update.
