Nonito Donaire's hospitalization seems to have worked well; the super flyweight champ may be able to be released soon.
According to reports from his wife Rachel, interim WBA super flyweight champion Nonito Donaire is recovering from dengue fever in the Philippines. When admitted to Asian Hospital, his fever had reached 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
Donaire has been living in the Philippines since his August 15 win over Rafael Concepcion, where he has been a contestant on "Celebrity Duets," along with charity work and public meetings. Rachel reportedly told Las Vegas-based manager Cameron Dunkin that they caught the fever early, and that it may have been transmitted by a mosquito bite.
According to reports, Donaire may be healthy enough to be released later today. Nonito will finish taping the Filipino reality show before returning to his home in San Leandro, California.
More than 50 million people are believed to be infected by dengue fever, found largely in the tropics. Dengue fever manifests itself in severe headaches and joint pains, fevers, and rashes throughout the body. A small percentage of cases are fatal, but most cases break within six to seven days.
