He'll have to pay a significant amount of money due to that...

Contracted weight for the welterweight showdown to take place tomorrow was 144 pounds. Juan Manuel Marquez weighed in at ripped 142 pounds. Floyd Mayweather Jr. weighed in at 146 pounds, 2 pounds over contracted weight. According to Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, the way the contract was written, Floyd would have to pay a hefty fine for not making the weight, the amount was not disclosed. In Nevada they do not have to disclose it.
"Significant amount of money," said Richard Schaefer.
Close to five thousand fans gathered at the MGM Grand garden arena to witness the weigh in, mostly pro Marquez crowd.
On the undercard the fighters weighed in as follows:
Chris John 126 vs. Rocky Juarez 126
Michael Katsidis 135 vs. Vicente Escobedo 134
Orlando Cruz 126 vs. Cornelius Lock 125
Said Ouali 146 vs. Francisco Rios 148
Erislandy Lara 155 vs. Jose Varela 156
I guess today was 'Not Make Weight' Day in sports.

ESPN's Dan Rafael has this whole thing broken down with all of the details. I think it's safe to say that Mayweather never planned on holding himself to the 144 limit. BTW, Mayweather v. Pacquiao will likely never happen. Both camps will have drama over the catchweight. Neither side will take the short money, or agree to an even split. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it.
Prediction: After Money beats the living shit out of JMM, I hope I'm wrong, but I predict Oscar v. Mayweather at 150-154 will get resurrected. They'll have a lot of storylines. Somebody wake me up when Mayweather fights either Manny, Cotto, or Mosley. Until then, Whatevs...
