The former welterweight titleholders are all set for battle on the Pavlik vs. Williams undercard
According to ESPN.com, former IBF welterweight champ Joshua Clottey has agreed to fight former WBO kingpin Carlos Quintana on December 5th, as the main support bout to the Kelly Pavlik-Paul Williams world middleweight title clash on HBO's World Championship Boxing.
"Carlos has accepted the fight with Clottey and the contracts are being sent out. It's a good, tough fight between two tough fighters," said Lou DiBella, Quintana's promoter-of-record (who also used to work with Clottey). "I think it's a very competitive fight with an interesting contrast of styles. Quintana is a skilled boxer. Clottey is a guy nobody knocks out that is extremely strong and durable. It's a tough fight between guys who are both among the best welterweights in the world."
The victor in this bout could easily put themself in position for a high-profile contest in early 2010. With fighters such as Mosley, Berto, and the Pacquiao-Cotto winner/loser all needing dance partners for the Spring season, we're undoubtedly in line for some great scraps in the 147-pound division for months/years to come!
